France lost hundreds of thous ands of people of industry, intel ligence and prosperity when the religious persecution of the Hu guenots began. Outrages against them were barbaric and they spread all over Europe to escape this. Many of them came to America and among these were LaLane, Gillentine and Racine who left England, where they had been given refuge. These men sailed to Boston on the ship "Nathan" under the command of Captain William Clark and the possible reason for their leaving England might be attributed to the un rest that existed in that country at that time. The year was 1679 and the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean took over seven weeks. One of the products introduced into America by the Huguenots was a strong-bodied Claret which they made of the wild grapes gathered in the woods.
