Abercrombie Rt. 1, Laurens BAPTISM There is probably no more controversial sub ject than baptism. This need not be, it should not be. If people would divest their minds of the things men have said and written on the subject, and “receive with meekness the engrafted word” (Jas. 1:21) they would have little difficulty under standing this vital theme, nor in deciding that it is necessary to salvation. WHAT IS BAPTISM? This, like all other religious questions is answered right, only when it is answered by the Bible. “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God . . .” (Col. 2:12) “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Fath er, even so we also should walk in newness of life ” (Rom. 6:4). An example of this is given in the Bible, “And they went down both into the ftater, both Philip and the eunuch: and he bap tized him. And when they were come up out of the water . . (Acts 8:38-39- WHY BE BAPTIZED? Christ commanded it. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son. and of the Holy Ghost.” (Matt. 28:19). “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” (Mk. 16:16). “Repent, and he baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remis sion of sins.” (Acts 2:38) “And now why tar- riest thou ? arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins.” (Acts 22:16). “The like figure where- unto even baptism doth also now save us . . .” (1 Pet. 3:21) WHERE DOES BAPTISM PUT ONE? There is no salvation from sin outside of Christ.” “Bless ed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Eph. 1:3). How do we get into Christ? “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Gal. 3:27). “Know ye not, that so man/ of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” (Rom. 6:3) We have now studied the plan of salvation as revealed in the gospel of Christ, Faith in Christ as the Son of God, Repentance. Confession, and now Baptism for the remission of sins, or to get “Into Christ ” Faith changes the heart, Repentance chang es the life, and Baptism changes the state or rela tionship of man. Faith, or believing is "Unto righteousness.” (Rom. 10:10). Repentance is “Unto life.” (Acts 11:18). Baptism is “Into Christ.” (Gal. 3:27; Rom. 6:3) CHURCH of Christ. 603 North Broad Street Clinton, S. C, MILTON S. PARKER, Minister Friendship Baptist Church Rev. Jesse D. And with the dissent comes a lotta cussing - on both sides. The dissenters are condemned by the dissented and dissented condemns the dis senters. I think we've got a few things outa focus, andboth sides are to blame. There’s a lotta signs going around which read, “America - Love it or leave it.* I would agree - if they mean by love, the right to criticize what’s wrong in an effort to make it better. It seems like we oughta have a group in this country like they got in England, called the Loyal Opposition. In other words we oughta give loyal people the right to oppose what they think is wrong. On the other hand, them that oppose oughta do so in loyality to the group they' re opposing. Shucks, I criticize the church right and left, cause I think she deserves it, but I’m still loyal to her. The same thing is true with my country. I love my coun try, right or wrong, but God bless her, I’m gonna criticize her wrong and try to change it. I just wish folks would stop shouting at one another, cause it effects the brain. Too much noise makes it weak. Besides a body can’t do too much thinking while he’s running his mouth. A fella told me once that the rea son so many people like to talk is that as long as they’re talk ing they don’t have to do any- thing. My daddy was a carpenter and I know that it don’ttake much brains to tear a building down, but it takes a lotta sense to put one up. Well sir, I gotta close I gotta go out in my ohop and do a little work. I’m trying to in vent a machine that will cornet mistakes without, blowing topftf to pieces in the process, tttp/t it perfected. I'm gonna give H to the human race.
