Mountville Revival Approved
To Open On Sunday
THORNWELL SCHOOL OPENS
Joint revival services ot
Mountville Baptist Church and
Mountville Presbyterian
Church will be held August 16-
20 with services at 8:00 p.m.
each evening at the Mountville
Presbyterian Church.
The church located just off
Highway 72 eight miles south
of Clinton.
The evangelist for the week
will be the Rev. Joe M. Hughes
who is currently pastor of the
Heritage Hills Baptist Church
in Decatur, Georgia. Rev.
Hughes is a graduate of Erskine
College and Southeastern Bap
tist Theological Seminary. He
was pastor of Mountville Bap
tist Church in 1960-61. Other
former pastorates have been
the Walnut Grove Baptist
Church in Hodges and the Sandy
Creek Baptist Church in
Louisburg, N. C. He has also
taught in the public schools in
Honea Path, Ware Shoals and
Louisburg, N. C. He is married
to the former Virginia McNeil
of Ware Shoals, and they have
two children.
Leading in the singing for the
week will be Mr. Deanie Martin
who is the music director for
Bellview Baptist Church in
Clinton.
The Rev. David Staley, pastor
of Mountville Presbyterian
Church, and the Rev. Loyd Mel
ton, pastor of Mountville Bap
tist Church, extend a cordial
invitation to the public to at
tend these services.

Spartanburg’s Memorial Audi
torium, W. R. Garrett, Laurens
County GOP Chairman, ann
ounces this week.
The Honorable Gerald Ford,
Minority Leader in the U. S.
House of Representatives from
Michigan’s Fifth District will
be the principle speaker at a
dinner honoring Congressman
Albert Watson, candidate for
Governor, at 7 p.m. Mr. Gar
rett said.
Those wishing to attend this
dinner in honor of Congressman
Watson are urged to obtain tic
kets early as only a limited
number will be available in the
Fourth Congressional! District,
he added.

Senator Strom Thurmond (R-
SC) announced today that the
Economic Development Ad
ministration has approved a
$41,420 grant for the Upper Sav
annah Economic Development
District in Greenwood, South
Carolina, to help the six county
are continue planning for
economic growth. The six-
county area includes Abbeville,
Edgefield, Greenwood, Lau
rens, McCormick, and Saluda
Counties.
Senator Thurmond said,
This grant will help pay the
organization’s administrative
costs for one year. The six-
county district will provide $17,
800 tocompletethe$59,220 total
cost of continuing the program.

On Dean’s List
Miss Mary Bailey Vance of
Clinton, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Converse Col
lege for the spring term of the
1969-70 session.
To achieve this honor stu
dents must be in the upper 20
per cent of their class aca
demically and have a grade-
point-ratio of at least 2.0 under
the 3.0 system.
Miss Vance, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert M. Vance, S.
Broad St., is a rising sopho
more at the 4-year women’s
college.
The Thornwell Kindergarten,
lower and upper school will
open A ugust 20th with in- service
training on Thursday and Fri
day 20th and 21st.
This year, the Thornwell
School will operate as a pri
vate school for the first time
in about twenty-five years. Day
students from Joanna, Cross
Hill, Laurens and Clinton will
be coming to the Thornwell
Kindergarten, lower and upper
schools.
Thornwell students will come
to school for all of their sup
plies and text books, assign
ments, etc. on Friday, August
21st.
All day students and parents,
if they wish, will come Monday,
August 24th to get text books,
assignments, etc. All students
will come Tuesday August 25th
for a 30 minute period school
day. Wednesday, August 26th
will be the first full day of
school.
The Thornwell school day will
start at 8 a.m. and close at 2 p.m.
with a 30 minute remedial period
lasting until 2:30 p.m. There will
be no school on labor day.

be on the Thornwell faculty:

Given Library
A new book on epilepsy cal
led LIVING WITH EPILEPTIC
SEIZURES has been given to
the Presbyterian College Li
brary by the Piedmont Epilepsy
Association.
The information in this book
is based on follow-up studies
of 15,000 epileptic patients dur
ing the past 26 years. It deals
with symptoms, treatment, and
general management of this
disorder, and mentions
services avilable to the
patient.
In presenting this book, Mrs.
Everett Curl, President of the
Association, noted the scarcity
of literature on epilepsy, ex
pressing the hope that this
book will light the candle of
understanding for citizens in
this area.
