THE CONFESSION
The confession, like faith and repentance is
unto salvation. " For with the heart man believ-
eth unto righteousness.” (Rom. 10:10). ‘Then
hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance
unto life.” (Acts 11:18). “And with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom. 10:-
10). “Unto” is defined, as leading to, or in the
direction of.
When Jesus asked the disciples, “But whom
say ye that I am?” and Peter answered "Thou art
the Christ, the Son of the living God, Jesus an
swered and said unto him, Blessed art thou.”
(Matt. 16:15-17). And this promise is made to
all who will confess the name of Christ, “Whoso
ever therefore shall confess me before men, him
will I confess also before my Father which is in
heaven.” (Matt. 10:32).
It is true that Christians must confess Christ
by living according to his will day by day, but this
does not remove the fact that a verbal confession
is required of every normal person coming unto
Christ.

red.
In the conversion of the Ethiopian treasurer
(Acts 8:26-39). The sermon of Philip, the in
spired evangelist had brought faith in Jesus into
his heart. Ready to do anything required by the
Lord, he said, “What doth hinder me to be bap
tized?” The answer was, "If thou believest with
all thine heart, thou mayest.” Then the eunuch
said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God.” After which Philip baptized him.
This confession is not narrow, as some would
have you believe: It is as broad, as limitless, as
the universe itself! It is as deep as the very
depths of creation: it is as high as the lofty
heights of rapture that canopy the eternal throne
of God; it is as lasting as eternity, and as pure as
the God from whose bosom it burst, to flood the
world with the light divine and lift our souls to
“Him from whom all blessings flow.”

BY DR. HERBERT SPAUGH
Fear is private enemy No. L
Montaigne wrote, The thing in
the world that I’m most afraid
of is Fear. We must face the
fact of fear, harness it, else
it will wreck and ruin our
lives.
Natural, wholesome fear is
wise. It is a safeguard, an as
set, a friend. Without such fear
we could not live out a day. The
man who has no fear is not
brave; he’s foolish. Without fear
there would be no courage.
Life has its dangers; they are
everywhere. Fear stimulates
us, keeps us alert, watchful.
It protects us. Fear of hunger
keeps us at work. Fear of fire
creates fire extinguishers.
Fear of death makes us ser
ious.
But fear, when it goes be
yond its natural function, be
comes a panic, a plague, a
blackmailer of the soul. The
worse fears are unnatural, un
real.
There is self-fear which we
do not recognize, much less
admit. It paralyzes. It shuts
the doors of the mind and leaves
us shuddering in a cell. It may
be a sense of guilt turned in
ward, entangled with our sins
and ignorance.
How are we to deal witn out
fear? First, we must face the
things we are afraid of, and ask
the questions, What am I a-
fraid of? If it is selffear, we
must admit it candidly, face it,
do something about it.
Often the facing of our fear
brood, fear benumbs us.
What is the best medicine for
our fears. Walt Whitman wrote,
Faith is the antiseptic of the
soul. Faith disinfects us of
those dark fears and dismays.
But when faith fades out of the
heart, fear crawls In. By the
same token, when we win faith,
tear is driven out. And where
fear ends, life really begins.
Lack of faith is at the root
of the nagging, gnawing anxiety
which weakens and wears us
out, making us tired of tomor
row before it comes.
Two things we must learn:
to forgive life for what it is
as well as for what it does;
to control our emotions and
imagination and wait until a
thing happens before we try to
deal with it.
The Apoette 4o)b Waste,
Tbero.&wflttr VVNWnNt
perfect love caste th oat fear.
He also tells us that God Is
love. So, to trust God, to love
God, to talk and fellowship with
God, is to be able to face life
and conquer it in partnership
with Him. With God all things
are possible.
