traffic control.
Airman Lollis is a radar re
pairman in the 206Gth Communi
cations Squadron that was cited
for over 27,700 operations, in
cluding the handling of more
than 25 emergency landings.
AFCS provides global communi
cations and air traffic control
for the USAF.
The airman, a 1968 graduate
of Clinton (S.C.) High School,
attended Clemson(S.C.) Univer
sity.

DEAR SALLY: My husband
was a widower when I married
him five months ago, and I
couldn’t ask for a more de
voted and affectionate husband.
However, the thing that bothers
me very much is the change
that always comes over him
whenever we are in the pre
sence of his two young mar
ried daughters. When they are
around he never shows the
slightest affection for me....
he is as cool and impersonal
toward me as though I were

DEAR DAKOTA: I think
you’re makingentirely too much
of nothing. You already know
that your husband is “devoted
and affectionate* toward you,
and that’s all that counts. Real
love does not require demon
strations or exhibitions in the
presence of others. Your hus
band is probably still associat
ing his daughters with his late
wife, their mother, and this
association makes him reluc
tant to put on any obvious sh >w
of affection toward you in their
presence.
DEAR SALLY: I am a res
pectable young business woman
of 25, and live along in my own
apartment. There is a nice
young man I have been dating
for sometime who has gotten
into the habit of dropping in
at my apartment two or three
mornings a week for coffee and
rolls with me. Then we leave
for work together. I am afraid,
judging from the expressions
on the faces of some of my
apartment neighbors, that they
are getting the wrong im
pression from seeing us leave
my apartment together on
these mornings. When I
mentioned something about this
to the young man, he just
laughed and told me I am
being too sensitive, that what
others think isn’t all that
important. What is your
opinion? KAY.
DEAR KAY: It’s YOUR
reputation that’s on the line, not
your young man’s., and people
will draw conclusions when the"
see an unmarried woman
emerging regularly from her
apartment in the mornings with
a man. If what your neighbors
are probably thinking bothers
you, I suggest that you rule
out any more of these break
fast dates.
DEAR SALLY: Don’t you
think a girl of 15 is much too
young for such foolishness as
shaving her legs? My young
daughter and I have been argu
ing over this, her so-called
embarrassment over the growth
of hair on her legs. Will you
please settle this for us?
NEBRASKA.
DEAR NEBRASKS: I think you
about this. At the age of 15,
your daughter is not too young
by any means to look well-
groomed and smooth, hairless
legs are very much a part of
good-grooming.
REPENTANCE
One of man’s greatest needs is to repent.
Sins un-repented of can never be forgiven: and
sin separates from God. “But your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and
your sins have hid his face from you, that he will
not hear.” Isa. 59:2; Christ said, “I tell you, Nay:
but, except you repent, ye shall all likewise per
ish." Lk. 13:3;
Repentance is the second step one must take
in becoming a Christian. Faith in Christ must
come first, since, “. . Without faith it is im
possible to please him: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is . . .” Heb. 11:6; So, if man
could repent without, or before believing, it would
not please God.
Repentance, like faith is unto, or in the di
rection of salvation. “For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness.” Rom. 10:10; Re-
member^, there is a difference in the meaning of
the words “unto” and “into.” And this is impor
tant, if we would understand the plan of salva
tion as revealed in the gospel of Christ.
WHAT IS REPENTANCE? It is not godly
sorrow, godly sorrow leads one to repent, “For
godly sorrow worketh repentance, to salvation.”
2 Cor. 7:10; Repentance is a change of will that
results in a changed life, a changed way of living.
Christ said, “But what think ye? A certain man
had two sons; and he came to the first, and said,
Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answer
ed and said, I will not: but afterward he repented,
and went.” Matt. 21:28-29; In Mathhew 12:41;
Christ said, “The men of Nineveh repented at the
preaching of Jonas ” What did the men of Ni
neveh do that Christ called repentance? “And
God saw their works, that they turned from their
evil way.” Jonah 3:10; Repentance is giving up a
life.of sin, and turning to God, to live for Him.
It is hard to get people to obey the command
to repent, because so much is involved: so many
changes have to be made. Old habits have to be
given up, and new ones formed. Repentance
changes the way a person thinks, plans, talks, and
lives- “Old things have passed, away, all things
are become new.” Faith destroys the love of sin:
Repentance destroys the practice of sin.

When will people learn no* to
open the doors of their homes
or motel/Intel rooms to
strangers without identifica
tion. The news media
continuously reports cases of
armed robbertyby thieves as
soon as the occupant opens his
door. Mtiiiy houses and hotel
r ooms t oday are equipped with
safety chains which permit the
door»to be opened a few inrhes
for identification. They are
effective when used.
In these days of high crime
r ite, the occupant of a house
or room sh ould use every safe
guard. I recently read a book
written by a professional thief
while he was in prison, telling
how easy it is to burglarize the
average house or room and what
steps could be taken to prevent
U One of the first warnings is
to beware of admitting
strangers to your home or room
without positive identification.
We continually read accounts
of armed robbery where the
thief forces his way into a
door which has been opened
thoughtlessly by the occupant.
There’s an old truth which I
am emphasizing and have many
times h, this column,'take care
of what you have and you’ll have
something to take care of". One
of its first applications is to take
care of your person and your
property.
Why do we have to learn the
hard way? Most of us seem to
inflict that loss on ourselves.
There is something about a
doorbell or a knock on the door
which arouses the curiosity of
the occupant. We think, 'Well,
this may be somebody impor
tant". Yet, if you were not at
home, you wouldn’t answer the
door. If the call were a matter
of importance, he would call
again or telephone.
So much of our trouble is
caused by our own careless
ness and thoughtlessness.
Your person and your pro
perty are important to you.
You have invested a great deal
in both. Learn to take care of
it.
It’s a good rule in these days
that if you are going to call on
a friend at his home, telephone.
Then you won't be interrupting
the household and if they want
to see you, they’ll be ready.
You can’t make your house
or room absolutely theft-proof,
but you can make it difficult
for a thief to get in.
The loss to society from bur
glary and theft is tremendous.
Much of it could have been pre
vented. An example of this now
is a rule which has been a-
dopted by many service stations
and small food stores which are
open at night - to keep only
small amounts ot money on
hand. City bus drivers will no
longer make change for pass
engers. They must have the
exact fare. All these are good
steps but a house-holder or
occupant of a hotel/motel room
must take preventive steps him
self. Think about this and act
accordingly.
