Corned Beef Sparks Salad

Hearty and flavor-rich, the lean corned beef that comes in
cans gives a decided lift to salads, making them fully satisfying
main dishes with a bonanza of flavor.
Here is a handsome molded salad that combines the flaked
meat with a delightfully seasoned blend of tomato soup, cream
cheese, celery and mayonnaise. It’s a luncheon main course par
excellence when accompanied with tender hot rolls and iced tea
or coffee, and followed with fruit-sauced cake squares.
Corned Hccf Salad l.oaf
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin 1 cup mayonnaise
'/i cup cold water 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
1 can (10 \ oz.) condensed Vk teaspoon garlic salt
tomato soup 1 can (12 oz.) corned beef,
2 pkg. (.'loz. each) cream unchilled
cheese 1 cup finely chopped celery
Soften gelatin in cold water. Add soup; heat over low heat
until gelatin is dissolved. Beat cream cheese until light. Gradual
ly beat in hot soup, adding about 'i cup at a time, until smooth.
Blend in mayonnaise, Worcestershire ami garlic salt. Chill until
mixture is the consistency of unbeaten egg whites. Coarsely
flake corned beef; fold, with celery, into gelatin mixture. Turn
into 1 >7 quait mold or loaf pan and chill until firm. Unmold and
serve on lettuce; garnish as desired w ith chilled fresh vegetables:
cucumlier slices, rheny toruatos, whole green beans, etc. Makes
fi servings.
Q How cm I prepare my own
rug «hampoo at home?
A. Mix up a bucket of luke
warm water with rich, mild soap
suds. Soak a cloth in the suds,
wring out partially, and scrub
a small area of the rug with it.
Dip another rough cloth into a
bucket of clear lukewarm water,
to which powdered alum has
been added, and wipe the suds
off the rug With this.
Q. It there anything at all I
can do about removing small
•cratchee from the glass tops of
furniture?
A. These can often be obliter
ated with a little toothpaste rub
bed over them, then polished off
with another dry soft cloth
Q. How can I make a good re
pair on small holes or tears In

A By using rubber cement to
apply your patching material
Weight the patch down for
several hours to be sure it will
stay in place
Q How can I concoct a
"homemade" Ink eradlcator?
A. A solution of one part chlor
inated laundry bleach and ten
parts water does a good job of
eradicating ink from paper
Keep this in an old iodine bottle
with a rubber stopper, and use
with a glass rod and blotter just
as you do with comrfiercial
eradicator.
Q. How can I make a good ad
hesive for sticking cut-out gold-
paper letters or similar designs
to glassware?
A. One very good one can be
improvised by dissolving a few
medical capsules in warm water
— just enough water to make a
thick solution
Q. How can 1 clean a kitchen
sink that is well stained by fruits
and vegetables?
A Spread apastecomposedof
equal parts of bicarbonate of
soda and chlorinated lime over
the stained areas, leave until dry,
then wipe off. Another paste for
this same purpose can be made
of three parts of cream of tartar
to one part of peroxide
Q How can I impart a little
oilnessto someof my dustcloths?
A By adding a spoonful of
lemon oil or any furniture oil to
the rinse water when you w ash
these cloths
Q How can 1 clean wrought
iron fixtures?
A. By rubbing with a woolen
cloth moistened with any thin oil,
such as paraffin or kerosene
