One of the showers is equipp ed to handle patients on stretc hers. Another is designed for patients who might have trouble stepping into a bath tub (there is a flight of steps beside the tub so the patient can ascend the steps and then step down into the tub). DINING AREA Other features include a large dining area for patients, a laun dry room for the convenience of patients, barber and beauty shop, examining and treatment room and conference room. Physical therapy equipment is provided along with various crafts and recreational faci lities. Concerning the dining room, Mr. Crawford said, 'We will encourage patients to eat in the dining room if at all possible. We’d like for them to get out of their room and move about." The nursing home food will be prepared in the hospital kitchen. The guard rails in the cor ridors are col or-coded, mean ing the rails are different colors in different corridors, to assist patients in finding their way. From the nurses’ station, one can see all three corridors in the hospital. There are speak ers beside each patients’ bed so that patients can talk with the nurse on duty. Mr. Crawford said there will be about 27 employes on the staff when the nursing home fills to its 40-patient capacity. Black, R. N., will be supervisor of the Bailey Nursing Home. A native of Silverstreet, she is a 1963 graduate of Newberry High School. She is a 1966 gra duate of Greenville General Hospital Nurses School. She has been employed as a. nurse in Bailey Memorial Hos pital for several years and also has worked at Newberry County HospitaL Her husband is a general mechanic for Allied Chemical Co. in Irmo and they have two sons, Michael, 2-1/2 and Ric hard, 1. * * * Lightning-Prone Oak trees are struck by lightning more frequently than any other tree. The rate for private rooms is $16 per dav. The rooms feature electric beds which can be raised and lowered by the patient. Audio-visual contact with the nurses’ station also is available in each room. (contd. from page 2) There are smoke-control de vices and magnetic doors on each corridor. When smoke hits one of the smoke-control de vices located in the corridor ceiling, it automatically re leases the magnetic doors, thusly keeping any smoke from spreading to the rest of the nursing home. VISITORS ENCOURAGED Visitors will be encouraged to come to the nursing home, according to Mr. Crawford. Sim mons of Mountville. said, 'There will be no visiting hour restrictions. People can come to visit patients whenever they want to. In fact, if someone isn’t getting enough visitors, we may call the family and request visitors." Bailey Nursing Home was constructed and equipped at a cost of approximately$700,000. Local funds were obtained by sale of Clinton Hospital Dis trict Bonds and substantial do nations by the Bailey Founda tion, the Duke Endowment, the Self Foundation, Clinton Bear ings Plant of The Torrington Company, the C. W. Anderson Foundation and The Margouette Charitable Organization. The project also received substan tial funding from the Federal Hill-Burton Program adminis tered by the S. C.
