C., July 16, 1970—1-C Practical Nursing Course Scheduled At Bailey Memorial Applications are now being taken for the practical nursing course at Bailey Memorial Hos pital for the 1970-71 school year. In order to qualify for this course, a student must have completed at least two years of high school or the equiva lent, as determined by an en trance aptitude test. An appli cant must be in good physical and mental helth as endorsed by a physician. Males and females are eligible for the program and should be between 18 and 50 years of age. Persons over 50 are eligible but will be consid ered on an individual basis. Greenwood Mils Plants Receive Safety Awards Four Greenwood Mills plants have received National Safety Council awards for a total of more than five million safe manhours worked. Ninety Six Plant No. 10 re ceived an Award of Merit, the second highest awardpresented by the National Safety Council, for 2,526,233 safe manhours. Adams Plant, Chalmers Plant and Joanna Plant No. 15 all re ceived Certificates of Comm endation. Adams employes wo rked 1,063,807 manhours with out a disabling injury. Chalmers employes worked 931,390 man hours, and JoannaNo. 15,714,310 manhours without a disabling injury. Wall-Size S.C. Maps Are Available .a The program is sponsoredby School District 56 and costs $100. Students will study a wide range of topics, including in fant care, care for surgery pa tients, anatomy, physiology, nu trition, and pharmicology. Upon completion of the course, a student must pass a state liscensing test in order to qualify as a practical nurse. A practical nurse can find employment in many places to day, including hospitals, cli nics, nursing homes, physi- MRS. CHALK dans’ offices, school infirma ries, and industrial health ser vices. Miss Zelle Crisp spent Wed nesday in Elberton.Ga. with her brother Mr. A. B. Crisp. A 1970 edition of the State Primary Highway System wall size map (38" x 50"), has been delivered by the printer to the Traffic and Planning section of the Highway Depart ment, 4th floor, central ad ministration building, and are avilable at $2 each. The new map, the Tricen tennial edition, is printed and adorned so as to depict the his toric, in keeping with South Carolina’s observance of the landing on April 15, 1670, the first English settlers at Charles Towne (Albermarle Point, Charleston). Those ordering by mail are also given a free unfolded copy of the regular pictorial map, size 38“ by 25”s which is suit able for desk tops display, or framing. There is no extra charge for mailing. Camp er Waldron won the Mark Clark Award during the first session of The Citadel Summer Camp for Boys which ended here July 3. The Mark Clark Award is presented on the basis of excellnece in sports, physical fitness, tournaments, manners, and attitude.
