BY SALLY SHAW
DEAR SALLY: My daugh
ter has hit me with an unusual
gift request for her birthday.
She wants me to finance a set
of contact lenses for her —
not for the purpose of improving
her vision (which is already
perfect), but for the purpose of
changing the color her eyes!
She calims she doesn’t like her
present “faded blue” color
eyes. I think this is silly! Are
you with me? DAD.
DEAR DAD: I am indeed!
There’s no sense in anyone, al
ready blessed with perfect eyes,
attempting to improve this per
fection nature has already en
dowed her with!
DEAR SALLY: How does one
cope with guests who linger on
and on after a party in one’s
home is really over and after
most of the other guests have
left? Seems as though every
time we throw a party we have
this vexing little problem. Is
there any tactful way we can in
form these hangers-on that it’s
time to go home? SUBUR
BANITES.
DEAR SUBURBANITES: Ode
often-successful “tactful” tac
tic” is to begin a little “house
keeping” -- cutting off the
drinks, emptying ashtrays,
carting glasses and dishes to the
kitchen. If this fails to get your
message across, then a little
mote than tact is in order. Tell
them bluntly that you’re tired
and want to hit the pillow.
DEAR SALLY: I’m a girl of
17 and have been dating a very
nice boy of 18 . . .that is, I
thought he was nice until our
latest date. He took me for the
first time to a drive-in movie,
and maybe he was influenced
by the “activities” in some of the
neighboring cars. Anyway, he
attempted the same sort of tac
tics on me. I stopped him and
told him I was under the im
pression that we were there to
see the movie. I’m afraid now
that maybe I’ll lose him. Is
there any way I can reason this
out with him, or must I “go
along with the crowd" so far as
“drive-in movie behavior” is
concerned? TESS.
DEAR TESS: If holding on
to this fellow depends upon your
willingness to go along with
drive-in movie petters, the re
lationship is worth nothing! And
if this is a really worthwhile
boy and if he really cares for
you, you won’t have to reason
this out with him. . .he’ll ad
mire and respect you for your
principles.

Think Carefully Before Divorce
BY DR. HERBERT SPAUGH
If you are considering di
vorce, think it through before
you do it. Imagine you have di
vorced your wife or your hus
band and visualize just what will
happen after you have done it.
Below are given excerpts of a
letter from a correspondent, a
man who has gone through the
experience.
“While I am not one to give
advice on how to keep harmony
in the home, ! can give some
experiences a man will go
through when his home is bro
ken up. I hope that everyone who
is having domestic problems
will read this letter before he
seeks divorce, try to look at the
future, and what life may be
like after the separation. Try
desperately to work out an
agreement.
After your home is broken up
you will never get used to com
ing home to no family. At night
you won’t go to sleep for a long
time. You just lie there and
think. After you go to sleep you
wake up in the middle of the
night in acoldsweat. Your heart
is beating a hundred times a
minute. You think you’ll die, but
you won’t be that lucky.
If you have a television set,
you can sell it or unplug it. You
won’t want to look at it anymore.
There won’t be any children
to fix a sandwich for, no wife
to bring a cup of coffee to.
Do you enjoy a backyard base
ball game? You can forget that
too, because your boy won’t be
there anymore. Every time you
see a few boys out in the ball
field, you heart will bleed a little
more.
Do you like to take the kids
fishing, or take a walk in
the park, maybe go hunting with
the boys, or read a book to the
children?
Now, if you want to die a hun
dred times in a few minutes,
go shopping. All you will see
is a new dress you would like
to take to your wife, or a new
ball glove for the boy, or a doll
for the little girl.
You may go to church Sun
days. You will listen to every
word the preacher will say. But
iffyi won’t go to the church to
renew your faith, you will be
listehihg^fot jii£t cfne wprd/Just
one sentence in which you can
find a little hope, a word of
encouragement, something you
can lean on, something to give
you strength to face the next
day - alone. ”
I don’t get a letter like that
very often, especially from a
man.
It’s been my privilege to help
save a number of marriages by
leading both the husband and the
wife to project themselves into
the future after divorce. After
they have done this, then we have
taken a good-look at-thfrpre
sent cir ctnnstshces ftmt
decided there was more good to
the marriage than they realise.
