THE CHRONICLE Clinton, S. C., July 2, 1970—7-B News And Views BY MRS. AURELIA D. MOON GROUP MEETS The Religious Program met at New Grove Baptist Church on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Rev. J. W. Watts, president of the group presided at the commencement of the praise service. Words of welcome were ex tended to the group by Mrs. Eula Griffin and Mrs. Etta Ki- nard responded. The choirs sang many touch ing and uplifting selections. Many ministers attended the session. The next meeting will be at Mount Zion AME Church on July 19. Mrs. Zena Wilson and Mrs. Ossie L. Rice are secretar ies. CLUB MEETS Mrs. Eva Taylor was hos tess to the Sunshine Club on Sunday at her home off Eli zabeth Street. The president Mrs. Lenora Fleming presid ed following the opening cere monies. Birthday gifts were present ed to Mrs. Eleanor Werts, Mrs. Annie L. Kerns and Mrs. Mat- tie W. Hudson. The club will resume its re gular meetings in September. TEACHER OF THE YEAR The Sunday School of Hebron Baptist Church has completed the selection of a teacher of the year. The selection coveredtwosix month pernKis of the year. The honor was bestowed m Mrs. Clara W'ilson and Miss Harriet Smith. Receiving honorable mention were Mrs. Lenora Fleming, Mrs. Alene Watson and Mrs. Alice Pruitt. The teachers were rated on perfect attendance, punctuality, leadership, preparation and various precepts. Mrs. Mamie Coker and Mr. Carl Drakeford served on the observing committee. Mrs. Maggie D. Craig is superrn- ent. C2 and Mrs. JamesSuber and Tracie of Mineral Wells, Texas have returned after spending some time in the city. They were called here due to the death of his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Suber of Joanna. Miss Faye Brown accompanied them home and will spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Adams, and son left by plane for Ja- macia, N. Y. and Brooklyn, N. Y. where they will visit their parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Lind say, Mr. and Mrs. Erskine Lindsay, Mrs. Alfreda Boden- hamer, Mr. Alonzo Gilliam and Mr. Bernard Lindsay motored to Atlanta, Ga., where they spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph White. Mrs. Louise Gary and Mr. Willie Malone are visiting their mother, Mrs. Sarah Malone on West Centenial St. Miss Mattie C. Rice is still at home after suffering an ac cident. Mrs. Annie Moore is in Coram Long Island, N. Y. where she is visiting her daughter Mrs. Ruth Wilson. While in the state of New York she will also visit her sons William, Douglass and Willie C. Moore and families. Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Knigh ton and children Johnny andRo- land of Baltimore, Md., spent a recent vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis J. Knighton. Mr. Noah Young, a member of New Bethel Church is in Man hattan, N. Y. for an indefi nite stay with his children. Mr. Jerome Fleming is home with his parents Mr. and Mrs. James L. Flemingafter receiv ing an Army discharge. Mr. Fleming was wounded and as a result was honorably discharg ed. Friends will be glad to know he is recouperating. Little Michelle L Jeter, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Char lie Jeter was first place win ner. Other contestants were Pamelia Thacker, Althea John son, Susie D. Gray and Jacque line Williams. The sumnf$99.- 45 was reported. This contest was sponsored by the Progres sive Club of which Mrs. Sylvia Peake is president, Miss Caro lyn Anderson is secretary and Miss Euna M. Pitts is adviser. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bates of Greenville, spent last week with their father Mr. John H. Young and sister Miss Mattie M. Young on South Bell Street. Mrs. Ruby Grant has re turned home after an extended stay in North Wales, Pennsyl vania with her sister Mr. and Mrs. William Glenn. Mrs. Carolyn W. Simpson and Mrs. Lillie P. Copeland left on Sunday for Brooklyn, N. Y. where they will visit Mrs. Eula Bell White. Mr. and Mrs. John L. Reeder o f Columbia and Mrs. Eliza beth R. Marable and daughter, Hermietta of Wadesboro, N. C. spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. Georgianna Reed er. Mrs. Brenda L. Kinardand son Ryan of Hill Crest Heights, Md., are spending some time with their parents Mr.andMrs. Hugh Lindsay on South Bell Cir cle. Miss Rosamary Judge of Brooklyn, N. Y. is spending a month with Mr. and Mrs. Ben jamin L. Thompson and other relatives. Mr. Sam Fleming entered Self Memorial Hospital on yes terday. All are hoping him an early release and recovery. Friends of the area are sorry to learn of the passing of Mrs. ‘Cornelia Gordon on July 26 in Columbia. Mrs. Gordon was the wile of Rev. J. S. Gordon, pas ter of Vanghnville Baptist Church.
