Tho mas of Atlanta, Ga. and her three sons are here visiting her. They were joined over the week end by James Thomas of At lanta and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Huffsteller and children of Co lumbia. Teresa Lee has just returned from a weekend in Franklin, N. C. where she sang with “The Lost Minery’’at Gold City which is now the Lost Mine. She will be appearing there again in a few weeks. Mrs. Louise Malpass had a birthday on June 22. Mrs. Mal pass and her sister, Mrs. Lacey Johnson of Johnson spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ballew of Charleston. Their daughter, Tina returned home with them for a few days. Mrs. James P. Sloan, Larry Brehmer, Nan Dixon and Pattie Plowden are representatives from Clinton High School at tending the High School Editors Conference, School of Jour nalism at the University ofSouth Carolina. Brown and Frank Brown >f Sa vannah. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Muller are spending several days at Myrtle Beach where Mr. Muller is at tending the Society of American Foresters Meeting. Chuck Walker, defensive end Mr. and Mrs. Earle Langs ton of Mobile, Ala. and Mr. and Mrs. George Hollingsworth of Union and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Drake of Columbia and Mi. and Mrs. Roy Palmer, Mru M. A. Hatcher of Hamlet, N. C. and Mrs. Ruth Hudgans of Laurens rencently visited Mrs. George W. Copeland. Friends of Mrs. Rick Wells, the former Francise Smith of Clinton will le interested to learn that she and Mr. Wells and little daughter are making their home in Charlotte, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thompson left this week for York wliere they will make their home. Mr. Thompson will be associate to Judge Joseph M ss, Chief Jus tice f Supreme Court of South Car ilina. He recently complet ed his military service at Ft. MucPherson, Ga., where he held ttie rank of Captain. Mrs. Thompson is tte former Ellen Lawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Lawson. Entertain Friends Mrs. B. F. Wingard and Mrs. Marion Lawson entertained their friends at two lovely par ties last Wednesday at the Law- son home on Hopewell Road. The informal coffee was held in the cool of the morning and the guests relaxed on the large back porch. Refreshments served in the dining room fea tured iced coffee with ice cream. • That afternoon from 4 - 6 o’clock, friends were invited for a tea. The hostesses greeted their guests in the entrance hall where there was a gener ous bowl of tall glads and snap dragons. They were invited into the dining room for mixed fruit punch with sherbert served in a large silver punch bowl. As sorted sandwiches and “finger foods” were served which were delicious and attractive. There were several beauti ful arrangements of flowers, but especially pretty was a tre mendous display of lillies in the den which looked like a big bowl of sunshine. Party Given Melissa Turner A “Mother and Daughter” kitchen shower for Miss Melissa Turner was given by Mrs. Kenneth Fryfugle and her daughter Marilyn. The Wednes day night party was at their home in Merrie Oaks. They enjoyed competitive games to suit the occasion and to the delight of the girls, the mothers missed quite a few. After Melissa opened her gifts which were displayed in floral umbrellas, the guests were served delicious refresh ments. Besides the many useful kit chen items she received, the hostesses made a cute corsage for Melissa from handy uten sils. Miss Finney, Mr. Smith Married in Virginia Miss Virginia Anne Finney and Charles Wesley Smith were united in marriage at the Fort Eustis Memorial Chapel, Fort Eustis, Va. on June 20. Rev. Paul Widenhouse of Norfolk, Va., cousin of the bride, offi ciated. The bride is the daughter of Major and Mrs. Henry F. Fin ney of Newport News, Va., for merly of Joanna. She is me niece of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Brazil, Mrs. Catherine Craven of Joanna and Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Lunsford of Clinton. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wesly Smith Sr., of Newport News, Va. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a gown of silk and Peau D'Ange lace, de signed with an Empire bodice of organza overlaid with lace and a sculptured neckline with small pearl clusters. The long sheer sleeves were appliqued with lace. The chaple length veil of silk illusion, which was bor dered with matching scalloped lace, was mounted on a lace camelot cap. Her bouquet was a cascade of white daisies and sweetheart roses. Miss Carolyn Ingram ofNew- port News, Va. was maid of ho nor, dressed in an aqua blue chiffon gown with empire bodice and A-line skirt. Her heacfciece was a forward cluster of petals outlines in seed pearls with mathing tulle. Her miniature cascade was made of blue ma jestic daisies. Miss Becky Sanders, of New port News, bridesmaid, was dressed in a gown of maise yel low similar to that of the maid of honor. Her cascade of flow ers was a matching yellow. Bestman was C. W. Smith, the groom’s father. Ushers were James H. Davidson and Al bert G. Thomas, of Newport News. Mrs. Vera Barnes was organist. Mrs. R. W. Whitesides directed the wedding. A reception was given at the home of the groom’s parents. The bride is employed as a secretary at Noland Company and the groom is employed by the State of Virginia. They will reside in Newport News. People You Know Mrs. Ethel Pitts spent the weekend in Rock Hill with her daughter, Mrs. Wayne Jarvis and Mr. Jarvis. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bonds, Mrs. Hattie Bonds and Miss Lynn Nabors spent several days at Myrtle Beach, return ing Sunday. Misses Judy and Debbie Fal- law, Miss Linda Weeks, Mrs. Ann Cranford, Messrs. John Rice and Herry Fallaw spent Sunday afternoon at Greenwood State Park, and later enjoyed dinner at Panorama Lodge.
