i Women's World Meadows-Seigler Miss Merri Susan Meadows, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Franklin Meadows of 1394 Vine Street, N. E., Gainesville, Ga., became the bride of Michael Graham Seigler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Fuller Seigler of Pinewood Drive, Clinton, Satur day June 13 at 3:30 p.m. The First Baptist Church of Clinton was the setting for the ceremony at which the Rev. Joseph Haynesworth Darr, officiated. Musicians were Mrs. Grace Connor, organist, and James Me.idows soloist, both of Clinton. The bride’s parents were hosts at a reception in the social hall of the church following the service. The bride had as maid of honor her cousin, Miss Tamara Penney of Spartanburg. Other attendants were Miss Gail Bfeifer of Columbia and Miss Brenda Watts of Clinton. Irving Fuller Seigler, Jr., of Montgomery, Ala., was best '.nan for his brother. Usher - groomsmen were Mike Me ados of the University of Georgia, Athens, brother of the bride, Rusty Montgomery of Spartanburg, cousing of the bride; Henry Adair and Jimmy Young both of Clinton. Following a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple will reside at Highland Garden A- partments, Charleston Heights. The bride is a graduate of A. C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, N. C. and attended Clemson College. The groom is a graduate of Clinton High School and pre sently serving in the U. S. Navy, stationed on U.S.S. Hun- ley at Charleston. Mr. and Mrs, George Ernes- ton, aunt and uncle of the groom, gave the rehearsal party, Friday evening at their home in Greenwood. Mrs. C. R. Penney and Miss Tamara Penney, aunt and cousin of the bride, gave the brides maids luncheon Saturday at noon at their home, 220 Pineville Rd., Spartanburg. Miss Sheely Honored Miss Phyllis Shealy, bride- elect of AI Webb was honored or. Tue'iltj evening, June 16 with a shower. It was given in the re creation center of the Nurses Home at Greenville General Hospital. The hostesses were classmates of the honoree. Miss Shealy was showered with many gifts. On May 1, Mrs. Andrew Ear- gle honored Miss Craven with a party in Little Mountain at which time the relatives of the groom- elect showered the honoree with an assortment of household gifts. The recreation room of the First Baptist Church was the scene of a lovely bridal shower for Miss Craven, given by Miss Ruth Hair, Mrs. Lester Hair, Miss Dena Hair, Mrs. Sanford Roebuck, Mrs. Sammy Strick land, Mrs. Ray Bragg, Miss Joyce Smith and Mrs. William Boyd. The hostesses presented Miss Craven with a lovely bride’s book. Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Cyril Mayer, parents of the groom, following the rehearsal enter tained the Craven-Mayer wed ding party in the social room of the United Epworth Metho dist Church in Joanna. The reception table was beau tifully decorated with a lace cloth, spring flowers and can dles. The couple presented their attendants with gifts at this time. Miss Martha Craven Weds Julian Douglas Mayer DIXON BT 2/C Wayne Dixon and Mrs. Dixon announce the birth of son, Kevin Wayne, on June 18 at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Dixon is the former Connie Rollins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Rollins. Mr. Dixon is stationed in Vietnam with the U. S. Navy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dixon. The wedding of Miss Martha Jane Craven and Julian Douglas Mayer was solemnized at the United Epworth Methodist Church, Joanna on June 20. The bride’s pastor, Edward D. Pierce performed the ceremony at 7 p.m. A reception was given at the home of the bride’s mo ther. The bride is the daugh ter of Mrs. Catherine Finney Craven of Magnolia Street, Jo anna and Isaac Cleveland Craven of Anderson. She grad uated from Clinton High School and attends the Greenville Gen eral Hospital School ofNursing. The groom is a graduate of New berry High School and is em ployed by the Shealy Tractor and Implement Company of New berry. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Enoch Mayer of Rt. 2, Little Mountain. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a gown of candlemist silk organza over peau de soie with cathedral sleeves of lace. The empire bodice of rose point lace and seed pearls was accented with scalloped neckline. The A-line skirt was decorated with lace and pearl garlands. The full train was appltqued in motifs of lace. Her bouffant veil of French illusion was attached to a silk petal capulet. Her nose gay of small white rosebuds and carnations accented with streamers of ribbon and lace Sister of the bride, Mrs. Au brey Lavaughn Dent of Union, was matron jf honor. Miss Lin da Davenport of Joanna was bridesmaid. They were dressed in pink bonded crepe gowns with empire bodice and A-line skirt. Pink ribbon, lace and flowers accented the empire waist. Each wore a matching bouffant head- piece of illusion and carried a nosegay of pink and white flow ers. The groom’s father served as best man. Ushers were the groom’s brother, Dwayne Mayer of Aiken and the bride’s uncle, Nathan Braze 1 of Joanna. Miss Martha Ellen Abrams of Joanna was organist. The couple will make their home on Columbia Highway, Newberry, where the bride will be employed at Newberry Hos pital after her graduation from Greenville General School of Nursing in August. RECEPTION A reception for guests and the wedding party was given follow ing the ceremony at the home of the bride’s mother of Mag nolia Street, Joanna. The home was decorated with arrangements of magnolia leaves, daisies, glads, ferns and palm fronds. The reception table held the four tiered wedding cake, which was served to the guests by Mrs. Nathan Brazel. Mrs. Lester Hair poured punch. As sisting also were Miss Dena Hair, Mrs. S. T. Moore, Mrs. Bobby Dwyer and Mrs La vaughn Dent. Mrs. Bragg kept the bride’s book. Bride-elect Honored On Thursday evening Miss Mary Ann Floyd was honored with a bridal shower by Mrs. Bill Crocker and Mrs. Hack Prater at the home of the latter on Sims Street in Joanna. Games to suit the occasion were enjoyed by the group and the gifts were opened and pass ed around for all to see. Delicious refreshments of bridal cakes, cheese straws, nuts, mints and bridal punch were served by the hostesses. On June 12, Miss Floyd, Aug ust bride-elect, was honored with a miscellaneous shower at the Joanna Club House. A blue and white color scheme was used in the decorations. The honoree was presented a corsage to commemorate the occasion. After a number of games were played, led by the hostesses, Miss Floyd opened the gifts for all to see, including a lovely blanket and bedspread, a gift of the hostesses. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Champ Johnson, Miss Linda Motes, Miss Barbara Motes of Joanna and Mrs. Sara Burns of Mojntville. Be careful about swimming too soon after eating. Girl Staters Selected The three representatives to Girls’ State from the Clinton area have all been elected to positions in the “government- established to give the girls a first hand knowledge of how the governmental processes work. Renie Hollis, representative of Clinton High, was elected to the Senate from Grayson Coun ty on the Nationalist Party tick et Cynthia Turner, also from Clinton High, was elected to the House of Representatives from Proctor County. She ran on the Federalist Party ticket. Peggy McKee from Thornwell was elected to the Epting City County in the Federalist Party ticket Those elected to the House and Senate held sessions in the legislative chambers of the State House. Girls’ State is a program for specially selected high school girls. The purpose of the pro gram is to offer a better un derstanding of the working of government in South Carolina and the United States. Tea Given Recent Bride On Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Thomas Heath Copeland enter tained with a tea, honoring her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carroll Duckett Copeland. As guests called at the Cope land home on Calvert Avenue between the hours of four and six, they were greeted at the door by Mrs. James Addison and Mrs. Rufus Sadler. Receiving in the living room with the hostess was the ho noree and her mother, Mrs. William Doyle Whilhite of Ma- bleton, Ga. The dining table was overlaid with a lovely cutwork cloth cen tered with an arrangements of gorgeous pink roses. Pink roses, white starburst mums and gypsophila were used in nosegay effects with pink tapers and silver candelabra on the buffet. Large arrangements of magnolia in bloom reflected in the ceiling high mirrors. Guests served themselves sandwiches, nuts, sweet tarts and other party food, as Mrs. Frances Blalock and Mrs. Lykes Henderson poured pimch. An arrangement in blue and yellow picked up the color scheme in the living room. White daisies and yellow roses further complimented the home. Assisting in entertaining were Mrs. J. J. CornwaU, Mrs. Carlisle Neely, Mrs. Taylor Martin, Mrs. Julian Bolick, Mrs. Books Owens, Mrs. T. C. Johnson Jr., and Mrs. Robert Black. UDC Holds Annual Picnic The Stephen D. Lee Chapter of the UDC held its June meet ing at the Whitten Village Club House. This was the annual pic nic for the chapter. After en joying a bountiful supper and fellowship with guests and members, a meeting was held. During the business session, a motim was made and carried to give $100 to be applied to the scholarship fund at Presby terian College With Mrs. D. A. Yarborough as installing officer, the offi cers for the coming year were installed. They are as follows: Mrs. Perry Moore, president; Mrs. Hugh Bwnds. Workman, first vice-president; Mrs. M. C. Rodgers of Greenwood joined their parents for church service at the Mount ville Baptist Church and then hosted a dinner in their honor at the Rodgers summer home on Lake Greenwood. Magnolias and roses decorat ed the party rooms. The table was covered with a gold-color ed cloth and held an arrange ment of roses. Mr. and Mrs. Miller’s places were marked with a miniature bride, dressed in gold, and groom. Place cards with gold wedding bells further carried out the theme. An original poem written by Miss Lillian Brown of Green wood who was a member of their wedding party was read. Mrs. Miller was Miss MabelSmithof Mountville before her marriage on June 12, 1920.
