MOON SURPRISE PARTY The home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilson on Tribble St. was the setting for a surprise birthday party on Friday night at 8 p.m. The arrival of the honoree, Mrs. Lula Mae Wilson, was marked by the approaching of the many guest who sang happy birthday to you. Mrs. Wil son is the mother of the host, Mr. Walter Wilson. The dining table was over laid with a white, circular, linen, fringed table cloth. A candle stand held eight white candles that burned during the affair. The birthday cake baked by Mrs. Alice Wilson had the age of the honoree made with cand les. The honoree received many gifts. MEN’S DAY Men’s Day was held at New Hope AME Church on Sunday morning during the regular wor ship service. After the devotion Mr. Nes bitt Fowler gave the welcome address. The speaker Mr. B. Dober, former principal of Brewer High School and now with the Education Board of District 50 in Greenw ><,d, spoke on the duties of a an. Following the service Rev. J. W. Thomaspresidingelder of the Greenwood District held the Third Quarterly Conference. Rev. J. W. M .-ton is pastor of the church. Men's Day was held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Sun day at 12 n'H.n. Mr. Charles Rice presided and Mr. Thomas H. Rice gave words of welcome. Mr. James Werts respected to the welcome. Rev. Peter M mn introduced the speaker, Rev. J. B. Bough- night of Newberry who brought the inspiring message. Mr. Richard Price and Mr. Ge »rge Briggs conducted the praise service. The sponsoring committee was Mr. Loveas Dillard, Mr. Hubert Sanders and Rev. Peter Moon. PASTOR’S AID CLUB The Pastor ’s Aid Club of He bron BaptistChurchmet'-nSun- day evening with Mrs. Alene Watson. The home was decorated with seasonal flowers. The presi dent, Mrs. Sallie L. Finney presided during the business session. The hostess was thank ed for her hospitality and the well-prepared dinner by Mrs. Pearl Ruth. Mrs. Laura Calhoun will be hostess for the next meeting. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL The week of June 15 to 19 was Bible school days at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. The theme “God's Plan For Us’ was discussed daily by the in structor who led the opening exercises. The average daily attendance was 43. Refresh ments were served and prizes were given by the auxilaries, members and friends of the host church. Mrs. Mary C. Dillard served as teacher - superintendent, Mrs. Aurelia D. Moon was teacher - director and Mrs. Leola Chappelle, Mr. Thomas H. Rice and Mr. John T. Rice were teachers. Miss Sherita G. Moon and Mr. Robert Jones won prizes for the best project Mrs. El sie Rice and Mr. John T. Rice served as judges. Rev. A. Jones is pastor of the church. CHILDREN DAY SPEAKER Mrs. Sallie Lou Finney chose Your Rings Cleaned! Clinton, S. C. “Christian Character” as her subject at Flint Hill Baptist Church on Sunday June 14 at the Children Day exercise. Mrs. Finney president of the Pastor’s Aid Club of Hebron Baptist Church brought very challeng ing words to the listeners. The children of the church gave recitations and songs. Rev. J. T. Berry is church pastor. Friends of Mr. Stonewall Craig will read with interest the announcement of his candi dacy for alderman of Ward 4. Mr. Craig is a local contractor and is a member of Hebron Bap tist Church where he serves as a deacon. Miss Beatrice Chappelle of Washington, D. C. is visiting her sister Mrs. Adline Watson and family. Mrs. Elizabeth McM irris of Baltimore, Md , is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Will A- dams in the Lydia Mill area. Friends of Mr. James "Pee Wee” Young will be interested to know he has been trans ferred fromSelfMemorial Hos pital to Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Ga. Miss Sandra Adams of Balti more, M l., spent a few days re cently with relatives in the city. Coretta and Janice Israel f Rockville, M i., are spending the summer with their grand parents Rev. and Mrs. Willie L Hunter. Miss Twanda Sanders is spending the summer with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Th mas Goode in Washington, D. C. Miss Kimberly Ann Miller has returned to the city after visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Smith in Washington, D. C. While away she als . spent s >me time with Mr. and Mrs. George Smith II in Oxin Hill. C. arrived ti Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Claudia D. Ferguson onTribble Street. Mr. Mangrum has re turned home and the D 'rrah's remained f »r a longer visit. Mrs. Dorrah will be remem bered as Miss D r thy Lomax a former teacher at Bell Street School. Many menders and friends worshipped at Bush River Bap tist Church on Sunday in the anniversary celebration of the pastor, Rev. N. B. Norman, Rev. C. Jeter and Rev. W. D. Coker were the speakers. He bron Choir rendered music. Mr. James Williams and children Rodney and Belinda of Detroit, Michigan have return ed after visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs. John D. Williams Sr. and Mrs. Ida M. Blakely. While in the city, the family visited his brother and family Mr. and Mrs. John D. Williams Jr. in Orangeburg and was en tertained at a cookout by the Kelly family in Fountain Inn, S. C. Mr. Oliver Blakely and Mr. Harold Williams are attending MRS. WILSON Mrs. Janette Prather Wilson of Hartsville spent a few days visiting her family before en tering her second summer of graduate' school at the Appala chian University in Boone, N.C. Mrs. Wilson is seeking a Masters Degree in Special Ed ucation. She is a teacher in the Hartsville Area Schools. She is married to Luther F. Clinton Citizen Meeting to be held at Friendship AME Church n July 5 at 5 p.m. Miss Fryga Teaches Art In Union Miss Betty Fryga of Clinton has tieen invited to teach art in Union by the Union County Fme Arts Council. A four-week course which be gan June 22 is made up of two classes a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. The course is of fered to children from the ages of six to 14. There are three classes, dividing the children up into appropriate age groups. Miss Fryga, had a one-man exhibition at the University of South Carolina extension June 15 - 19.
