"THE RENT DAY DOTH NOT TROUBLE
US - ALL THOSE GOOD BLESSINGS WE
HAVE." This is a quote from an English
man who left his country in the 1600'sand
settled in America. Victims of serfdom,
profitless drudgery added to religious perse
cution forced an enormous amount of peo
ple to leave England in the 17th century.
Such people were three Englishmen named
Edwards, Baldwin and Spencer. But leaving
England was not an unrestricted right. Per
mission to leave had to be commanded from

A two lane facility is propo
sed at the present time with
right of way acquisition ade
quate to construct a four lane
facility in the future.
The proposed facility is pri
marily to help relieve conges
tion existing in the downtown
area of Clinton, and also to
provide a connector route from
U.S. Route 76 northerly to S.C.
Route 72. The facility will pro
vide for fast, safe and efficient
transportation. Economic ac
tivity should benefit from the
proposed improvements, since
it will help relieve congestion
in the downtown business area.
Fire protection in the area
should be improved because of
the relieved traffic congestion
in the downtown area, as well
as improving access to pro
perties on the eastern side of
town. Access to the hospital
will also be improved.
Property values between S.
C. 72 south and U.S. Route 76
east should not be greatly af
fected. Property values north
of U.S. Route 76 and S.C. Route
72 should increase because of
improved access in this area.
the Privy Council and this included nobility
and workers alike. The three men involved
here had to take the Oath of Supremacy and Conformity before they could
board the sailing ship Prudence, under the command of Jacob Green, which
they did on May of 1679. They arrived in Boston and although the underlying
motive for their leaving England was economic, they cast off the tie of serfdom
and became freemen in their own right, with their own piece of land.

The first official listing
ing of the Edwards name was in Suffolk in 1219. One
century later, Yorkshire records enter a man named
Willelmus Edwards as being a tailor by profession. The
name derived from the Teutonic word meaning 'rich
guardian' from which many of the King Edwards took
their name. The red and gold rampant lion is just one
of the more than fifty grants to the name.
Salhroin From the Old German
personal name meaning 'Old friend' Baldwin was a pop
ular Flemish name in England before the Norman Con
quest. The name first appeared as a surname in Suffolk
in 1095 and in 1200 there appeared an entry of the
name in Hampshire. The griffin on the coat of arms is
an unreal heraldic beast with the head of an eagle and
the legs of a lion. This is colored red.
ftpenrer Thirty-four coats of
arms are certified to the Spencer name and the record
shows it to be among the most renowned names in
England. The Duke of Marlborough and the Lord May
or of London are just two of the titles borne by Spen
cers. The attractive coat of arms illustrated would
have to be seen in full color to be appreciated. These
colors consist of gold, silver, red and black.
To have your name considered for a future column and
receive free pamphlet on Heraldry and Passenger Ships,
send two 6C stamps to ‘‘Research Report" Box 212,

The Cause of
Fear, Tension
BY DR. HERBERT SPAUGH
Fear and tension are the mo
dern American’s biggest bugo-
boo. They give him headaches,
heartaches, backaches, leg-
aches, and a host of other aches
too numerous to mention.
Everywhere! go I run into it.
The most effective cure is
"practicing the presence of
God,” but too few are willing to
try it.
The present marked upswing
in the demand for religious and
inspirational literature
throughout the nation is an indi
cation of this desire of men and
women to find inward peace.
Much of this fear and tension
comes from a violated cons
cience. Many people, now com
ing into middle age, were rear
ed as children according to
strict moral and religious prin
ciples. When they grew up they
decided that these were out of
date for this day and age, so
they drbpped them and adopted
the creed, 'the sky is the
limit.”
How many of you who read
this were reared to respect the
sanctity of God’s Day? Now you
do things on Sunday that would
not have been tolerated in your
home when you were children.
Bhe honest about it.
Many adopt social habits
which violate all their child
hood training. The modern stan
dard which they have adopted
runs against the grain of
everything they were taught
as children. As the result
they have acquired a guilt neu
rosis within. They wouldn’t ad
mit such a thing, but it’s there.
So they frantically run hither
and yon, seeking help. Many
land in doctors’ offices and
hospitals.
The first thing for such vic
tims to do is to recognize their
situation, and realize that they
cannot live down their child
hood training. They have to live
with it. They need a good moral
and spiritual housecleaning.
The one answer to a violated
conscience is coming to terms
with the Lord in confession and
surrender. Mark this down.
Sooner or later you are going
to have to do it if you want
peace in your heart.
Then begin to feed your soul.
Thousands walk around in a
kind of fog as the result of
spiritual starvation. Be honest
now. How much time do you
give daily to feeding your
soul? Read all the inspirational
books that you will, but don’t
neglect the Book of Books, the
Bible. Get a copy of the mo
dern translation, if yon can’t
understand tbe KingJames ver
sion. Read a few verses every
day. Study them, digest them,
claim them for yourself, and
live by them.
All indications point to a mo
ral and spiritual upswing
throughout the nation. It will be
reflected in improved health,
morals, manners and attitudes.
I repeat, the antidote for your
fear and tension is “practicing
the presence of God”.
