Five Represent Local
ARP At Synod Meeting
Five members of Providence
Associate Reformed Presbyte
rian Church attended the 166th
annual meeting of the General
Synod of the A.R. P. Church at
Bonclarken Assembly Ground,
Flat Rock, N.C., June 1-5.
R.L. Plaxico and the Reve
rend Zeb C. Williams were de
legates from the local church.
Dr. C. Bynum Betts, former
pastor, had voting privileges as
a retired minister. Mr. and
Mrs. James P. Sloan were Sy
nod’s reporters for the wire
services. Mr. Sloan was also
alternate delegate. Mr. Plaxico
served on the Moderator’s
Committee on Presbytery Re
ports.
The Reverend William F.
Mitchell, pastor of Liberty
Springs Presbyterian Church
of Cross Hill, was fraternal de
legate representing the Presby
terian Church, U.S.
Dr. Joseph M. Gettys, pro
fessor of Bible at Presbyterian
College, was elected to the
Board of Trustees of Erskine
College, his alma mater.
Dr. David E. Tribble of Co
lumbia, formerly of Clinton,
was elected to the Synod’s four-
member committee on Chris
tianity and Health. Mr. Sloan
was elected to the five-mem
ber Committee on Communica
tions.
The Reverend Mr. Williams
was transferred from the Se
cond Presbytery to the Miss
issippi Valley Presbytery as
he leaves the Clinton Church to
assume duties as pastor of the
Midlane Park A.R.P. Church,
Louisville, Kentucky, in July.
Mr. Williams took pictures
for the wire services and the
Hendersonville TIMES-NEWS.
He also continued his project
of photographing ministers for
the permanent files of the A.R.
P. Synod.
The Genreal Synod, govern
ing body of the A.R.P. Church,
is composed of two delegates
from each church, the minister
and one ruling elder. Approxi
mately 300 delegates attended,
representing churches in 12
Southeastern states organized
into 7 Presbyteries.

Katzburg Receives
Doctorate At Virginia
Stephen J. Katzberg, son of
Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Katzberg,
received his doctorate degree
in electrical engineering June
7 at the University of Virgi
nia.
He received his B.S. from
MIT and his masters degree
from the University of Virgi
nia.
He currently is working for
NASA in the Research Center
at Langley, Va. He is assigned
to the Viking Project which is
the code name hr the explora
tion of Mars.
Mrs. Harry Baldwin and M*ss
Dot Taylor attended the cere
monies at Charlottesville, Va.,
with Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Katz
berg. Steve will be spending
the week with his parents in
Clinton prior to returning to
Virginia.
The Neighborhood Youth
Corps this summer will provide
work opportunities for 328,000
boys and girls from poverty in
come families. This year's
summer program will involve a
Federal outlay of $146,412,000
which is to be used in pro
grams in all 50 states, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico,
Trust Territories of the Paci
fic, and District of Columbia.
