The more we look at a particular trouble, problem or sin, the larger it be comes. It makes us forget past blessings, past forgiveness, and also how we have overcome past troubles. The distressed correspon dent to whom we referred yes terday, admitted to being an ac tive church member, but she has committed a grievous sin. The burden of this sin, or conscious ness of guilt, has so distorted her thinking that the thought of the loving kindness of God is crowded out. When we come to Wit’s End Corner there is only one sensi ble thing to do - turn to God. Time after time I have coun seled with those in trouble. When I ask them if God has ever failed them in the past when they have fully turned to Him with their burdens, their reply has always been the same: No. A sense of guilt is deadly poison to happiness and con tentment. The Bible teaches this definitely, experience pro ves it. Shakespeare emphasized it in these lines, “Conscience doth make cowards of us all.” There is only one thing to do with unforgiven sin: seek for giveness for it. There is no ot her cure for a soul wound. Un forgiven sin festers in the mind, producing misery and unhappi ness. The Bibie tells us that “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength . It is amazing how the tangled threads of life are unsnarled when we al low God to work for us and in us. Every cross we see on a church spire, or a church altar or worn as a personal emblem, is a symbol of divine forgive ness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. None of us is free from sin, even Christians. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” But there is continuing forgive ness of life for all who come to Jesus Christ in true repentance and faith. There is this difference: the unbeliever wrestles with his own sin, while the believer brings it to the Cross on his knees. The proposed improvement will follow virtually along the alignment of existing roads ex cept for minor changes that may be necessary to comply with F.A. Secondary RoadStan- dards. Bituminous surfacing will be constructed to a mini mum width of 20 ft. with ade quate shoulders to provide a two lane facility, on a right of way basically 66 ft. wide. Toast sesame seeds in shallow pan at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to brown even ly; cool Mound well-chilled chicken spread mixture on wax paper. With a knife, roughly shape into a ball Sprinkle sesame seeds on paper, roll spread in seeds until completely covered. Shape into smooth ball with hands and chill. Serve with assorted crackers. After four months, ours is still rolling off fuzz in rather copious quantities. A. This is not unusual and it’s not a defect. Shedding comes from short ends of fiber left when pile is cut. It will happen on natural or synthetic material. Time is the only re medy. The amount of shedding should decrease with each vacuuming or cleaning until it finally stops. The time will de pend on type and frequency of cleaning as well as construc tion of the carpeting. The a- mount of fiber lost by shedding in the lifetime of the Governing will be only a small fraction of the total weight of the car pet fiber. -- Mrs. Julia B. We would like to plant flowers there but the briars are too deep to dig up. Mrs. E. T., Breenville. A. Briars are very difficult to control with selective herbi cides. Repeated sprayings with Amitrol-T at the rate of three- quarters of a cup (six fluid ounces) per gallon of water maj control them. Wet the foliage thoroughly to ground level and repeat until all regrowth stops. — Dr. C. N. Nolan, principal extension specialist, agronomy. Q. Enclosed is a leaf from our crab apple tree. There are several leaves on the tree like this one. They have something which looks like stickers pro- turding from the leaf. What is it? A. The malcondition ap parently was caused by the ce dar apple rust fungus, which spends most of its time <« the cedar or mainly the up-right Junipers. During the spring, with humid weather, masses of bright Jelly-like horns give rise to spores which are blown to apple, crab apple and other hosts. The spores germinate on the new tissues of the apple an< undergo a development then break out with orange-red to brownish-orange spots with black specks (with cluster cups.) These are the stickers that protrude from the leaves. Heavily spotted leaves turn yel low and drop early. Control is obtained by spray ing. Keep susceptible crab ap ples covered with Fermate spray as soon as growth starts and until petals are shed. Seve ral varieties of disease resis tant crab apple are avialable from nurserymen. -- W.C. Cut the old canes this tall. Be careful not to leave sharp points standing which may in jure someone. When the canes begin to sprout next spring, spray them with Dowpon.
