on Monday from the Self Me
morial Hospital in Greenwood.
Mrs. Thelma Banks returned
home on Friday after spending
a few days at the Columbia
Hospital.

MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER
Miss Menita Brewington,
whose wedding will be in the
near future was honored with a
miscellaneous shower on Satur
day night. It was held at the
home of Mrs. James Price on
Academy Street in Clinton. A
large number of guests enjoyed
the party with her, with each
one remembering her with a
gift. Games to suit the occas
ion were played, afterwhich de
licious refreshments were
served.
WOMANS CLUB
On Thursday (tonight) at 7:30
the Joanna Woman’s Club will
hold their regular monthly
meeting at the Joanna Club
House. There will be a covered
dish supper. Also, the members
will reveal their Joanna sister.

Miss Prater Receives
Discharge From Navy
Miss Debbie Prater, daughter
of Mrs. Bill Prater and the late
Mr. Prater of Joanna, received
her discharge last weekend at
the Naval Air Station, Pensa
cola, Fla. after three years
tour of duty with the United
States Navy.
She graduated from Clinton
High School in 1967 and was
sworn into naval service on
May 31, 1967, at Ft. Jackson.
From there she went to Naval
Recruit Training Center (Wo
men) in Bainbridge, Md. for
three months of “bootcamp.”
There she served as master-al
arms of her company’s bar
racks, assistant Recruit Chief

Naval Air Station in Pensa
cola, Fla., where she spent
the remainder of her tour.
While there she was attached
to the Public Affairs Office of
the Air Station. Besides public
relations work, Debbie was a
writer for the base newspaper
and upon occasion, she wrote
scripts for radio and television
releases. She also conducted
tours of the station for visiting
groups.
Miss Prater plans to make
a career as a writer. She will
be spending the summer months
with her family.

Petty Officer and finally Re
cruit Chief Petty Officer. She
was also Platoon Adjutant at
graduation exercises.
Following Bainbridge, Miss
Prater attended the Defense
Information School at Ft. Ben
jamin Harrison, Indianapolis,
Ind., and took the journalism
course offered to all branches
of the Army Forces and was one
of five women in a class of 50
and the only WAVE. Upon grad
uation from journalist school,
she was enrolled in the Armed
Forces Broadcast Specialist
course. This time she was one of
two women in a class over
40 service personnel. Here she
was taught all aspects of ra
dio and television operation.
