Mr. and Mrs. Bob Segarsand Lindy were in Charleston over the weekend to attend the grad uation of Clayton Simmons Mar tin from James Island High School. While there, they visit ed Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Martin Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Hayne Work man Jr., were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Wham of Due West to spend last week at Lake Greenwood. Mrs. F. S. Cole has returned from a visit to relatives in Co lumbia. G. E. Boazman remains quite ill in Bailey Memorial Hospi tal. A number of residents attend ed the graduation exercises of Clinton High School on Sunday evening. Among those graduat ing were Ernie Austin, Karen Livingston, Grady Steadman and Floyd Moore Jr. Franklin Mitchell was a re cent graduate of Erskine Col lege in Due West. Master Steve and little Miss Mary Catherine Tucker of Ra leigh, N. C., are visiting their grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. W. F. Mitchell and Cathy. Twenty-one a- dnlts, ten at Clinton Hl^i School Center and eleven at Bell Street High School Center, have com pleted their work and received high school diplomas. Those receiving diplomas from Clinton High School were: Gail Foster Blackwell, Patricia Shir ah Childress, Michael Du re 11 Fickiin, Sandra Dianne Ginn, Terry Patterson Hammett Martha Ruth King, Sarah Benja min Moody, Terry Franklin Swygert, Roberta O’Dell Tem pleton and Linda Gail Hames Wells. Those receiving diplomas from Bell Street High School were: Lillie G. Bluford, Josetta H. Lindsay, Jimmie Lee, Lu cinda W. McMorris, Bobby Su- ber Nelson, Joyce B. Payne, Johnny W. Peake, Sandra V. Rice, Sara K. Suber, Clara W. Wilson and Patricia Young. During the 1969-70 school year, there were 42 adults en rolled in the Basic Education program and 242 in the High School program. There also was a Driver Training Course with 20 adults enrolled. Of the 20 enrolled in the Driver Training program, 17 received either their driver license or permits. 'These hard working adult students are to be congratu lated and commended for their faithfulness and sacrifice to better themselves in their com munity and their work," said J. E. Stockman, district AdultEd- ucation Coordinator. “This year in the State of South Carolina, one out of every eight students receiving State High School Diplomas will be an adult. We need more and more adults enrolled in our pro grams each year. There are over one million persons in this state with less than a high school education. “Adults can learn what’s a- vailable for them in adult edu cation through the use of news papers, radio, television and other media. But the personal touch of businessmen, teachers, students, and graduates is vital in reaching and teaching Lau rens County’s illiterate and semi-educated adults.” OUR PLEA Our plea is, and has been through the years for a complete return to the New Testament. This plea involves going back beyond all human opinions, and traditions of men: all the way back to Christ and the apostles, and taking up things just as they left them. When we ^o this, we will in matters of relig ion, speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent. In I Peter 4:11: we are exhorted, ‘‘If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified througH Jesus Christ.” Ami the Lord directed Paul to write to Timothy who was himself a preacher, and give one of the most solemn charges ever given to man. 2 Tim. 4:1-2: ‘‘I charge thee therefore before God, and The Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom . —Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suf fering and doctrine.” No man has authority from God and the Lord Jesus Christ to preach or teach anything in religion but what is revealed in His word. What God wants preached is found in the Bible, and all that God wants preached is in the Bible. ‘‘If anv man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God.” The Bible is God’s message to man, to guide us in this life, and help us to prepare ourselves to live with Him in the after while. Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. What the world needs today is the original gospel as taught by Christ, preached by the apostles, and recorded in the Bible: in all of its primitive faith, doctrine and practice.
