District Conservationist
There is more interest this
spring in terrace construction
on Laurens County farms than
there has been in several years.
Twenty-three landowners have
made application through the
Agricultural Conservation Pro
gram for cost sharing on con
struction of 135,000 linear feet
of terraces. The technicians of
the Soil Conservation Service
assist the landowners in the
planning of the terrace systems
and the survey of the lines.
The Laurens Soil and Water
Conservation District has a M >
tor Grader available to land-
owners for the construction of
terraces.
Laurens County still as a few
farmers who disregard the con
tour of the land and run rows
straight with a road or across
the contour. They say this saves
time, but the real truth is that
it accelerates erosion - soil
loss many times over what
would be lost by following the
contour of terraces.
Song Program
i A song program will lie held
Sunday, May 10, at Faith Taber
nacle Church in Joanna.
The pr* 'gram will start at 2:30
p.m. and will feature the Dave
Family of Greenwood and other
local talent.
