Riebel Sr. of Pitts burgh, Pa. visited Mrs. Rie- bel’s mother, Mrs. Lila C. Stewart, Mrs. Thomas P. 0- wens and other relatives of this city. The Riebel's also visited points of interest in Charles ton for several days. Tuesday Mrs. Furman Ott of Laurens and Mrs. Randall S. Ott and infant son, Beau, of Tucson, Ariz., visited Mrs. LilaC. Stewart and Mrs. Thom as P. Owens. Mrs. David Cook has return- ad from a month's visit with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Mc Millan and Mr. McMillan in Houston, Tex. John Orr spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Emmaline Shirley. He was en- route to Great Lakes Naval Training Center, HI. from Or lando where he was stationed with the U. S. Navy. Mr. and Mrs. DeLeon Rey nolds of Washington, Ga., spent Mrs. 0. L Sheely and daugh ter, Mrs. E. F. Culbreath of Charlotte, N. C. spent the week end at the Sheely home. Miss Martha Dicus, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Di cus of Anderson, formally of Clinton, was elected by mem bers of her class to a class office in elections held last week at Meredith College. She will serve as a senior representa tive on the judicial board of student government during the 70-71 term. Miss Dicus is ma joring in religion. Mrs. Guy Hill of WareShoals was Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Holland. Last weekend, Col. Powell F raser was inaugurated as Pre sident of King College in Bris tol, Tenn. Several Clintonians joined the Fraser family for the inaugural weekend which was crowded with social functions. Taking the trip to Tennessee were Dr. and Mrs. Judson Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Young, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Hollis, Mrs. Ed Ferguson, Dr. and Mrs. Marc W’eersing, Mr. Jim Oeland, Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Fuller and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Yarborough. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jacobs enjoyed the weekend at Hilton Head Island, where they attend ed a printers' convention. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Dow have returned from a week in Daytona Beach and Winter Parl^ Florida. They were accom panied home by their daughter, Mrs. Richard Kastory and granddaughters, Kelley and Kirsten, of Winter Park. The Kastorys will visit in Clinton for two weeks. Mrs. Helicons Awarded Grant On April 15, Mrs. Barbara W. Hellams was awarded agrant for summer study in any field of special education at any col lege or university in South Carolina. This award was made avail able from the South Carolina State Department of Education through the Special Education Division to some 650 applicants. Mrs. Hellams’ grant was one of 71 of its kind awarded. Mrs. Hellams has chosen the field of speech therapy and will enter the University of South Carolina in Columbia on June 11. The school will last through August 29, after which Mrs. Hellams will return to work at Laurens School District #55, where she has been employed for several years. Mrs. Hellams received her B. New members of the month are Gail Hidgon of Clinton, Di ane Evans of Joanna, andCaro- lyn Sorrells ofMountville. Mrs. Arana Coleman gave demon strations on the use of Tup- perware in the home, travel ing, freezing and for picnics. She also led the group in games and each member received a prize. Refreshments of cup cakes, brownies, a dip, cookies and coke were served by this month hostess Mrs. Helen Noel and Mrs. Carol Albright. * * * Erskine Presents Tlower Drum Song' DUE WEST - The Erskine College department of music will present Rodgers and Ham- merstein’s delightful musical set in San Francisco’s China town, “Flower Drum Song,” Friday, Saturday, and Monday, May 1, 2 and 4, at 8:15 p.m. in the Lesesne Auditorium here. Admission to the musical will be $3 for adults and $1.50 for non-Erskine students. News ! ♦ ♦ ♦ BY CLAIRE DUNCAN ♦ The Exchange Club of Clinton presented a chapel program April 16 at which they rededi cated the 38 Freedom Shrines given to Clinton High three years ago. Senator John D. Long was the guest speaker. Last Friday in chapel, the Glee Club presented a few se lections from their program which was held last Friday night. The girls wore long skirts and blouses in a variety of pastel colors. The installation of the 1970- 71 StudentCouncil members will be held Friday in chapel. Tim Prater will be installed aspre- sident, and Billy Young will be the new vice president. ROTC Awards Are Presented Maj. Gen. James F. Hollings- woth, commanding general of Fort Jackson, willpresentmili- tary awards to 26 Presbyterian College cadets at the annual ROTC Awards Day program this Thursday afternoon. Col. William B. Tuttle, pro fessor of military science at PC, said the occasion is de signed to recognize these stu dents who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in military science and lead ership. The ceremony will be held on the west plaza, start ing at 2:15 p.m. It is the final formation of the year for the Presbyterian College battalion. Throughout the past two weeks a number of girls have been practicing for cheerleader tryouts. Later in the week, they will all go before a screening com mittee of teachers and students who will select the finalists. The finalists will have tryouts before the student body on Mon day, May 4. The student body will then elect next year’s cheerleaders. The seniors, the band, and other students have been con stantly working on the sets and practicing for the Senior Class musical “Oklahoma!"Thistwo- act musical comedy will be pre sented in the high school audi torium on May 14, 15, and 16 under Mrs. Rosemary John son’s direction. Junior Fellows Program At PC Attracts 130 Presbyterian College’s first annual PC Junior Fellows pro gram atrracted 103 high school scholars and 27 guidance counselors to the campus Tues day afternoon. They participated in a full schedule of activities which in cluded general orientation on the PC program, special ses sions on their fields of aca demic interest, the student body picnic and the Folk Festival. South Carolina high schools nominated as PC Junior Fel lows the young man and young woman with the highest acade mic average in each junior class. In addition to the campus program, they will receive a special citation at their school’s awards day program and will be considered for the PC scholar ship program. * * * Laurens Revival Revival services opened Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Laurens.
