LADIES ALERT CLUB
The Ladies Alert Club met
recently at the home of Mrs.
Elnora Summers, club presi
dent.
After the devotion with the
chaplain in charge, the hostess
extended welcome to the mem
bers in attendance. A short
business session was held.
Refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be with
Mrs. Pearl Rice.
REVIVAL ENDS
A week of revival services
commenced on Friday night at
Little River Zion Baptist
Church.
Each service was sponsored
by an auxiliary or affiliated
body of the church. Rev. James
R. Whitmore of Tryon.N.C. was
the speaker of the week. Var
ious guest choirs rendered mu
sic during the week.
Rev. James Gray is pastor of
the church.
DEACONESS CLUB
The Deaconess Club ofMount
Moriah Baptist Church met on
Sunday evening at the home of
Mrs. Lula M. Wilson.
The president, Mrs. Vio
la Jones, presided.
The home was decorated with
seasonal flowers.
The closing was by the pas
tor of the church.
CAMPOREE
Boy Scout Troop 178 attended
the Laurens District Camporee
on Friday and Saturday at Whit
ten Village.
The troop received honorable
mention for their campfire skit
and had an overall average of 95
points for other skill abilities.
Under the leadership of
Scoutmaster Clyde M. Lindsay
Jr., and assistant scoutmas
ters Eddie Redd Jr. and Thom
as B. Cheeks, 33 scouts of
Troop 178 attended the camp
oree.
Fourteen other troops from
the district attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Casey Wilson
spent the weekend in Soperton,
Ga/ where they visited their
children Mr. and Mrs. Delmus
G tills.
Mr. and Mrs. Sammle Beagle
and children of Gray Court and
Mrs. Eula Brown of New York
City were recent visitors of
Miss Euna M. Pitts on Livings
ton St
While in the city, they also
visited Mrs. Ma^le Grant,
Mrs. Clara Garrett and Mr.
and Mrs. John Cunningham.
Mr. Herbert Young recently
returned from Panama and has
received his Army discharge.
He is now at home on South
Bell Street with his family.
Sympathy is extended to the
family of the late Mr. Morden
‘Phillip* Cunningham of Cross
Hill.
Among his many survivors
is a son Mr. James Cunningham
and a brother, Mr. John Cun
ningham, both of whom reside
in toe city.
Mr. David Young of Lancast
er, was in toe city on toe week
end to visit his mother, Mrs.
Minnie Young.
Rev. and Mrs. Fred Gist and
Rev. and Mrs. Peter Moon were
in Spartanburg on Friday night
where they attended toe closing
exercises of Benedict Ministers
Extension Class.
The speaker for toe evening
was Dr. J. Leon Pridgen.
Pvt Frederick Wilson spent
toe weekend with his wile Mrs.
Marie Wilson and other family
members. He is stationed at
Fort Jackson.
