The brides, along with their mothers and prospective {mothers-in-law received the guests after which they were served an assortment of refresh ments and punch. A pink and white theme was carried out on the serving table whfch was centered with a bou quet of pink and white snapdrag- gons and camellias. The hostess was assisted by Miss Lou Abrams, Mrs. J. W. Abfams and Mrs. Don Copeland imd daughters, Nancy and Mary. Golden Wedding Is Celebrated Newberry Hosts Auxiliary Zone 1 The annual meeting for Zone #1, 'American Legion Auxiliary, Department of South Carolina, will be held on Saturday, April 18, in Newberry. Mrs. J.F. Hur ley. Zone Vice President will preside. The meeting will be held at the American Legion Home with re gistration beginning at 11 a.m. Reservations must be made for lunch. Members of Unit 56 interested in attending should contact Mrs. P.M. Pitts, secretary. Newcomers Visit Whitten Village The Clinton Newcomers Club held their monthly party at Whit ten Village on Monday, April 6, with 11 members present About 50 children of building 26-A were present Five children celebrat ed birthdays. Refreshments of cupcakes and poich were furnished by Mrs. Jim Waller, Mrs. Bill Cherry and Mrs. Curtis Wallace. Love ly paper flowers were made for each child by Mrs. Bill Morrow. T^e children were entertained with songs led by the Newcomers. Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Loftis ce lebrated their 50th wedding anni versary on Sunday afternoon, April 5th with a drop-in at their home on Laurens Highway. Their son, Frank Loftis, of Atlanta, Ga. daughters, Nelle Bowman, of Warner Robins, Ga., Mary Mc- Murray, of Black Mt, N.C. and Nannette Bollinger of Ft. Lauder dale, Fla. were host and hos tesses for the occasion. Mrs. Bowman greeted the guests, Mrs. McMurray cut the cake, Mrs. Bollinger and Mrs. Frank Loftis served the drinks. Mrs. Ethel McCoy of Asheville, N.C. sister to Mrs. Loftis, Mrs. Clara Lee, of Washington, D.C., sister of Mr. Loftis and Mrs. Betty Barrett of Clinton regis tered the guests. Neices of Mrs. Loftis; Miss Thelma Watkins, of W. Ashe ville, N.C., Mrs. J.C. Hames of Woodruff, S.C. and Miss Mary Ethel Spivey of Asheville,N.C. were in charge of gifts. Granddaughters, Cathy Mc Murray and Karen Bowman also assisted Frank Loftis, assisted by Bill McMurray, a son-in-law and Kenneth Bowman a grandson assisted guests out of and into cars. Mrs. Loftis is the former Ade line Huggins a native of Asheville, N.C. She and Samuel B. Loftis were married at the pastorium of First Baptist Church in Landrum, S.C. with the Rev. A.P. Turner officiating on April 8th, 1920. Beside their son and three daughters, they have seventeen grandchildren. Only five of which were able to be pre sent. One hundred guests brought gifts and congratulations. Study Club Has Open Meeting The annual open meeting of the Wednesday Study Club was held last week at the Wilson Home. Hostesses for the luncheon meet ing, which included a number of guests, were Mrs. Marshall Brown, Mrs. J. F. Jacobs and Mrs. Robert Wysor. Luncheon was served buffet style from a table adorned with snapdragons and narcissus. These flowers were also used in several arrangements on the long table in the den, where butter fly place cards were used ef fectively. Mrs. George Senn of New berry was an out of town guest Iris Garden Club Meets April 22 The Iris Garden Club will hold its regular meeting on April 22 at the home of Mrs. W. A. Davis Jr. with Mrs. E. E. Cox as co hostess. The members are asked to bring a plant from inside or out side for the purpose of exchang ing them with each other. There will be a discussion on the plants, as to what fertilizer, spray, soil, etc. to use. Each member is urged to par ticipate and make this meeting a success. Legion Auxiliary Meets Tuesday The American Legion Auxi liary will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (April 21) at the home of Mrs. Henry Cronic, 500 Cedar Street. The program will be arranged by the Child Welfare and the Fo reign Relations chairman. Golf Assoc. Meets Tuesday The Ladies Golf Association will meet Tuesday, April 21st, for golf or bridge. Members are urged to make the most of these lovely spring days. People You Know Mr. and Mrs. Calvin H. Reec went to Nassau, New Providence, to pick up a sloop Charisma cruised the Bahamas for a weel and then brought the boat back t< Fort Lauderdale, Monday, April 13. Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Hol combe Jr. are making their home in Greenville where he has ac cepted a position with Joyce Equipment Co. They live in the Marlborough Apts., River Bend. Mrs. A. I Dixon will be in Greenville for a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. H. W. Gantt, who will have surgery at Green ville General. James Orr, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Orr is visiting friends in Indiana. He returned March 13 from a year’s tour of duty in Vietnam where he was station ed as a Capt. in the Quarter master Corps, and has complet ed his military service with the U. S. Army. Newcomers Club Meets Tuesday The Clinton Newcomers Club will meet on Tuesday, April 21, at 8 p.m. at the Episcopal Par rish House. The program will be a Tupperware party. The pro ceeds from the tupperware sales will be used for club projects. A short business meeting will be held. Worth, Texas. She is employed by the Southern Baptist Conven tion at the Missionary Orienta tion Center at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Dunn of Baltimore, Maryland announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy, to Thomas Algie Abrams, Jr., son of Mr. & Mrs. Algie Abrams, Sr. of 500 Bla lock Drive, Joanna. The bride-elect is a graduate of Patterson High School m Balt- more, and will graduate in May The Wilson home on Ansel Drive was recently the scene of a luncheon given in honor of Miss Kayran Cox, Miss Melissa Tur ner, Miss Theresa Lawson, and Miss Gayle Wilhite. Greeting the guests were the hostesses Mrs. Ferdinand Jacobs, Mrs. Ferdi nand Jacobs, Jr., and Mrs. Wil liam Shields. Each bride elect was presented a lovely corsage made of miniature fiesta hats. After being served cranapple juice in the living room, the guests were invited into the din ing room. The luncheon was served buffet style from a beau tifully appointed table, after which the ladies were seated at several small tables. Each ta ble was decorated with a small arrangement of camellias. At the conclusion of the party, each bride-elect received a cry stal and silver salt and pepper set. * * * On April 3, Mrs. Cornelius Strock of Charleston and Mrs. Robert Scales of Columbia hon ored June bride-elect, Kayran Cox, with a lingerie shower at the home of the latter. A pink and green color scheme was used throughout the party rooms. After several games, the bride-elect opened her many gifts. The hostesses then pre sented Kayran with a lovely mint green peignoir set Refreshments, which consisted of a variety of sandwiches, cheese straws, ham biscuits, and cake squares, were served buffet style. Mrs. Scales served the punch, a delightful concoction of orange juice and strawberries. As the guests returned to the liv ing room, mints and nuts were served. Out of town guests included Mrs. James Robert CoxandMrs. Join Is ham Moore. Mr. Askew is a graduate of Harris County High School in Hamilton, Georgia, South Georgia School of Technology in Ameri- cus and attended Washburn Uni versity in Topeka, Kansas. He has completed a tour of duty with the U. S. Air Force having served a year in Korea. He is employ ed in the accounting division at Callaway Gardens. The wedding is planned for May 10 at the First Baptist Church, Laurens. at Scarritt College, Nashville, Term. Mr. Abrams is a graduate of Clinton High School and will also graduate from Scarritt Col lege in May. The wedding is planned for May 29 at 4 o'clock in the Wightman Chapel at Scarritt College. Miss Kayran Cox was honored recently with a luncheon at the Wilson home on Ansel Drive. Hostesses were Mrs. Hugh Ja cobs, Miss Edna Jacobs, Mrs. Rufus Sadler Jr., and Miss Julia Sadler of Clinton and Mrs. Don Rice and Miss Ann Rice of Gas tonia. Early spring flowers were used throughout the party rooms. The guests served themselves buffet style and then were seated on the breezeway. After the blessing, Miss Edna Jacobs pre sented Kayran with a small bri dal bouquet of artificial flowers to be used at the rehearsal and to be kept as a momento of the oc casion. Out of town guests included Mrs. Rupert Leary of Abbeville, Miss Martha Dicus of Anderson, Miss Jean Bryan and Mrs. George M. Williams, HI, of Columbia. * * * GLAD PLAID—Here’s a dashing leather-belted ver sion of the walking suit by Ernst Straus of California. In a colorful woven cotton plaid, the two-piece suit has a long tunic top over a kicky pleated skirt. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Garrett Sr. of Orangeburg were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Harrison. * * * Friends of Mrs. HGbart Phil lips will be interested to know she is convalescing at home after undergoing surgery and stay st Self Memorial Hospital, Green wood. * * * Dr. and Mrs. Lewis H. Lan caster were recent visitors in Charleston. * * * Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Knox re turned Friday from Cliffside, N. C., where they spent the past three months visiting their daughter, Mrs. James Tinkler and Mr. Tinkler. * * * Mr. Carl Bradley of Little Creek, Yancey County, N. C. spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Phillips. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Denny Pitts of Anderson spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Joe Bonds and Mr. Bonds, and attended the conse cration service at Broad Street United Methodist Church. * * * Lt. (jg) William Shields, Jr. of the U. S. Navy, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shields, and with friends in Charleston. Lt. Shields will re join his ship, the USS Camden, stationed off the coast of Viet nam, following his leave. Joining the Shields this weekend for a family get-to-gether will be Miss A me Lou Black of Spartanburg, Miss Betty Black and her fiance, Henry Michael Herlong of Co lumbia, the J. F. Jacobs, Jr. and Sr., the Robert Blacks, Mr. and Mrs. William King and family of Summerville, Ga. * * * Dr. and Mrs. William Redd Turner are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lykes Henderson, Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. * * * Miss Emily Dillard of Green ville spent the weekend herewith Mrs. L.B. Dillard. * * * Miss Jane Sturgeon ofthe Duke University faculty spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. H.E. Sturgeon. * * * Mrs. J.P. Johnson of Rich mond, Va. has returned after an Easter vacation visit to Mrs. W.W. Harris here and to friends and relatives in Mooresville, N. C., Columbia and Greenville. * * * Mrs. Joe B. Godfrey, Beth and Brannon Godfrey of Forest City, N. C. spent the weekend with Mrs. M. C. Poole. Saturday morning they saw a Little Theatre pro duction of Aesop’s Fables put on by the children’s theatre in Greenville. Mrs. Betty Godwin and Darrell Whitsel, along with their recep tionist, Mrs. Jacquelyne Frazier of Betty’s Beauty Salon went to the Jackson Springtime Festival, April 5 and 6 in Columbia, S.C. * * * Mrs. Frank Kellers spent the past weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Kay Mills goingespecially for the Rock Hill celebration “Come and See". * * * Mrs. V. On Saturday she, Mrs. Senn, Elizabeth and Foster Senn will be luncheon guests of Mrs. Stephen Huntley in Due West. * * * Mrs. Kenneth Fryfogle, ac companied by her brother, Dr. D. E. Wallar, of Greenville, drove to Charleston last week for a short visit with her daughter, Miss Pat Fryfogle. They enjoyed Cypress Gardens, and the flowers in Summerville on the return drive. * * * Mrs. Rolf Rebman and child ren, Christy and Robbie left yes terday for their home in Br « k- lyn, N.
