DUNLAP C.C.C.P.&G.S, Dated this 14th day of April, 1970 A16-3C-A30 * * * NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION (Referendum) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That pursuant to Act No. 171 of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, Regular Ses sion of 1967, approved the 18th day of April, 1967, a REFEREN DUM has been ordered by the Board of Trustees of LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER 56, and will be held in said School District on TUES DAY, the 5th day of May, 1970, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said School District the question of whether or not the present pro perty tax levy within said School District for school purposes to defray the cost of the annual bud get of said School District shall be increased by ten (10) mills commencing with the year 1970. The voting place in each at tendance area of said School District (and the precincts to vote at the respective voting place) shall be located and de signated as follows: Iifc the Clinton attendance area (for electors registered in Clin ton No. 1, Clinton No. 2, Clinton Mill, and Long Branch precincts) at the National Guard Armory on South Broad Street in the City of Clinton. In the Joanna attendance area (for electors registered in Jo anna, Hopewell, Renno,andShady Grove precincts) at the Joanna Club House in the town of Jo anna. Yes No ” At the Referendum, each elec tor favoring the increased levy shall deposit a ballot bearing the word “Yes", and those opposed shall deposit a ballot bearing the word “No". The managers, at the conclu sion ofthe Referendum, shall for ward all ballots to the county board of education which shall tabulate the results and declare the result of the Referendum. How do they deal with marri ages where a daughter becomes pregnant outside of marriage and a son who has become acces sory to this? The first reaction is one of outrage and denouncement. This is natural. If this is continued it is usually only a question of time until the marriage fails and ends in divorce. I know this hard medi cine for parents to take but is usually medicine of their own brewing. Somewhere along the line, usually early, these parents have failed in giving their child ren proper preparation for mar riage in their own homes. We live in a permissive age when the tendency is to condone such activity. But the Command ment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” still stands as God’s law. Furthermore, it is still a- gainst the accepted moral code of society. It might be remem bered that the same God who gave us the Commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery," also gave us the Commandment that we are to love God and one a- nother. It might be remembered that the God who is God of right eous judgment is also a God of compassion. As an illustration of God’s compassion, read the in cident in the 8th chapter of John’s gospel of the woman taken in adultery who was brought before Jesus for judgment. His reply was, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” After her accusers left one by one, Jesus asked her, R I.. No man condemns thee.” Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn thee; go and sin no more.” Jesus did not con done the sin, but granted her forgiveness. These teenage marriages entered into precipitiously, and often because of pregnancy, need all the help they can get. Parents should follow the example of Je- In my long, pastoral ministry I have been priviledged to help many young couples whose mar riage got off to a poor start. But a bad beginning need not pro duce a bad ending. One of the reasons I have had some success in counseling with those in trouble is that I have endeavored not to take a judidtfcl attitude towards those who were sus. While not condoning the sin, in trouble but instead to try to they can give forgiveness and be understanding and helpful. I help. The children, by their ille gitimate actions, have already experienced one strike against the success of their marriage. They need to confess this sin to God, to parents, and to one a- nother. Then with the help ofGod and their parents, go on and build a good God-centered mar riage. try never to forget that “to err is human and to forgive is di vine.” (Essay on Criticism by Alexander Pope.)
