Receiving with the bride-elect were her mother, Mrs. Carl Langley, her sister, MissShirley Langley and sister-in-law, Mrs. Tony Langley all of Hodges. Arrangements of Spring flo wers were used throughout the home. In the dining room, the table, overlaid with a white co ver, was centered with a crystal candelabra with epergnettes of gypsophelia and pink seventeen roses. A pink and white color note was used in the other deco rations. Party dainties were served. The goom-elect’s mother, Mrs. W.E. Blackwell, poured coffee. The hostess presented the honoree with a gift of silver. GOP Women Hold Meeting The Laurens County Republi can Women’s Club met at the ET-Z Living Center, Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. Presid ing was Mrs. Furman Ott. Monthly programs for the com ing year were planned and the following chairmen were appoint ed: Finance, Mrs. Jimmie Le- grande; campaign, Mrs. Pat Childress; membership, Mrs. Virginia Lyons; and public re lations, Mrs. Margaret Crouch. About People You Know Miss Langley Marries William Robert Blackwell Miss Melissa Jane Langley be came the bride of William Robert Blackwell on Sunday, March 29 at 4 p.m. at the Hodges U- nited Methodist Church, Hodges. Rev. J. F. Trammell officiated. A reception was given in the so cial hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Langley of Hodgesiand the groom is the son of Mr. Wl Mrs. William Robert Blackwell of Clinton. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride chose a formal gown of organza and Chantilly lace with crescent waist of lace with an oval neckline accented with pearls. Scallqaed lace form ed a redingote effect skirt. She had a full chapel length lace train. The fingertip veil was attached to a forward cluster of illusion with pearls and crystals. Her white Bible was topped with sweetheart roses. Maid of honor was Mrs. Randy Hardin of Greenwood. All maid attendents were dressed alike in formal gowns of pink silk and worsted with long organza sleeves accented at the waist with velvet ribbon. Each carried a nosegay of white car nations and red sweetheart roses. William Blackwell served as best man. Ushers were Johnny Lanford, Charles Holland, Mike Blackwell of Clinton and Gary Conway of Greenville. Tony Langley Jr. of Hodges served as ring-bearer. Music was provided by Tony Langley of Hodges, and soloist, Mrs. Bill Walker of Bradley. The bride is a graduate of Greenwood High School and the groom is a graduate of Clemson University. C. Clinton Girls Elected To Officers At Salem Two Salem College students from Clinton won top student or ganization offices in elections this week. Elected president of the Sa lem College chapter of the Young Women’s Christian Association is Edna Jacobs. Rita Johnson was elected treasurer of the stu dent government. They will take office in April and will serve until next spring. Miss Jacobs, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobs of 512 Walnut Street, is a jun ior at Salem College where she is majoring in psychology. Campaigning for the office of president of the YWCA, MissJa- cobs said, “For three years, the YWCA has been an important part of my life at Salem. As a cabinet member, I have seen the Y widen its activities to take in projects beyond the campus. I have also seen that many stu dents do not realize the various services of the Y, nor partici pate in them. “Today students are trying to relate to the world. Through the Y, students can relate to prob lems in the community. Pro jects such as tutoring, volun teer service, and Soulettes (a club, meeting weekly, with Sa lem students and teen-age girls from a nearby housing project) make Salemites more aware of the world. “The Y also served Salem through Challenge Week, with topics to help Salemites evalu ate themselves and their pur poses. “I would like to see the Y maintain and expand the ser vices it now has. I would like also to see more participation in the Y.” All Salem College students are members of the Salem chap ter of the YWCA. Miss Johnson is a sophomore at Salem. Her major is Math. She received both listing on the Dean’s List and Class Ho nors for scholarship during her first year at Salem. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Olin C. John son of 600 Cedar Street in Clin ton. Her clear and definitive state ment which won the office was: “If I am elected treasurer of student government, I will do my best to keep a strict account of student government finances. I will also try to work effi ciently as chairman of the fi nance committee. In addition, I will serve the students compe tently in my duties as a mem ber of legislative and executive boards. Because I have in pre vious years served as treasur er of various organizations, I feel that I could successfully fill the office of treasurer of student government Coleman Family "Get-Together" Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Henry of Montgomery, Ala. were honored Saturday evening with a family supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coleman. Thirty-one members of the Coleman family enjoyed the de lightful affair. Mrs. Crowe Honored BRIDAL LUNCHEON Misses Karen Cox, Theresa Lawson, Melissa Turner and Gayle Wilhite, four of the sea son’s brides, were entertained at a delightful luncheon recently at the Wilson home. Shower Honors Miss King On Tuesday, March 24, Miss Martha Ruth King, bride-elect of Sgt Charles R. Campbell, was honored with a miscellaneous shower, at the Clinton Mill Com munity Building. The shower of gifts were cle verly displayed in an umbrella on the table. Games appropriate for the occasion were played and party refreshments of cake squares and punch were served. Hostesses were Mrs. Ray Whiteford, Mrs. Grady Chandler, Mrs. Marion Oxner, Mrs. James Hornsby, Mrs. George Thomp son Jr., Miss Dianne Lyda and Miss JorJa Simpson. Hostesses for the party were Mrs. Ferd Jacobs, Mrs. Ferd Jacobs Jr. and Mrs. William Shields. Spring bonnets provided a per fect and unusual theme in the party decorations. Miniature bonnets were nestled in the flow er arrangement on the dining room table and tiny hats were attached to the brides’ corsages. The young ladies were each presented a gift of a crystal salt and pepper set, appropriate ly topped with a flower filled hat Mrs. William Wilburn Lawson, Theresa’s mother, came from Buffalo, S. C. to attend the luncheon. UDC Meets Thursday The Stephen D. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Con federacy will meet at the home at Mrs. P.M. Pitts on Thursday night, April 2. Mrs. J. H. Crowe of Newberry was honored Saturday night with a drop-in at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jenkins on S. Woodrow with whom she has been visiting for the past week. Friends and relatives from Clin ton, Lydia, Joanna, Newberry and Summerville were guests. Mrs. Crowe was celebrating her 85th birthday. Her other children are Mrs. Eloise Cannon ofNewberry, Mrs. Jerry Holland of Summer ville and Harold Crowe of this city. Iris Garden Club Installs Officers The Iris Garden Club held its regular monthly meeting on March 25 at the home of Mrs. Mason Young with Mrs. Earl Rice as co-hostess. A report was given about the fashion show and the club’s civic project. A luncheon was suggest ed and decided upon for members of the club. New officers installed for the coming year are as follows: Pres., Mrs. Madison Pitts; Vice president, Mrs. I O, Ray; sec rets^-treasurer, Mrs, Sidney Bonds. The evening was summed up with groups making green foliage arrangements. Delicious re freshments and delightful social hour topped off the evening.
