Jerry Knighton, a seventh
grade student at Midway Ele
mentary School will represent the
school in the County Spelling Bee
Contest on Saturday, April 4th
at the Laurens County Court
house.
The elimination contest was
recently held at the school. Lor
raine Suber, a sixth grade stu
dent, was runner-up.
Jerry is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis J. Knighton of South

UNION MEETING
The first quarterly Union
meeting of the New Enoree As
sociation was held at Welch Zion
Baptist Church, Silver street on
Sunday.
Rev. Peter Moon delivered the
introductory sermon. Music was
rendered by Mount Moriah
Adult Choir.
The Missionary Sermon was by
Rev. J. B. Brown and James
Hopewell Choir sang for the ser
vice.
The next meeting will be at
Little River Baptist Church, Sil-
verstreet

CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY
In celebration of her birthday,
Miss Beverly Williams had a par
ty at school on March 25. Her
classmates and teacher, Mrs.
Gladys Davenport, enjoyed re
freshments that had been pre
pared by her mother, Mrs.Clara
W. Young.
Prior to the birthday party
Beverly had played the part of
a bunny rabbit in a school play.
She is a member of the secood
grade class at Martha Dendy
Elementary School.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. James
Harley are their daughter, Vi
vian Harley who attends Barber-
Scotia College and their son, Mr.
Edward Harley a student at Al
len University. Also visiting the
family is Mr. Gary Jenkins of
Barton, Fla., who also attends
Allen University.
Mrs. lola D. White of High
Point, N. C. spent the weekend
with her brothe r and sister, Lo-
veas and Lucile Dillard and other
relatives.
Mrs. Ella Mae Cromer and
Ronnie Sims observed birthdays
on March 29 while Mrs. Mary
Frances Ferguson birthday was
March 30. All reside in theStooe-
wall St. area.
On Sunday, March 29, Wilton
Williams invited the members of
Boy Scout Troop No. 178 to his
home on South Livingston Street
to share in the celebration of his
birthday.
During the appointed time the
guests played games, hunted
gaily-dyed Easter eggs and en
joyed refreshments. His grand
mother, Mrs. Maude S. Williams
assisted in entertaining the
guests.
EASTER PROGRAM
The annual Easter program
was held at Piedmont Presbyter
ian Church on Sunday at 12:30.
The meaning of the program
‘Faith, Meditation and Song* was
portrayed by Miss Dianne
Jones as Narrator, Thief, Mar-
cellus Pitts - Centurian, Jerry
Knighton - Voice of Faith 1 and
2, Keith Jones and Rene Knigh
ton - Mary Madgelene, Patricia
Jones while Brenda Knighton was
song leader.
Recitations were recited by
other church members and com
munity attenders.
Mr. Frederick Wilson left for
Ft. Jackson on Thursday for in
duction in the Armed Service.

of Walterboro, spent the Easter
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Benjamin Thompson and

Mrs. Wilson, who is employed
in the Hartsville area schools,

achian University, Boone, N. C.
last summer.
Mrs. Wilson, a member of the
A.K.A. Sorority, is marriedto
Luther F. Wilson, a graduate of
Morris College, Sumter. He
works as a department manager
in K-Mart Store in Florence.
