W. J. Henry,
Former City
Alderman, Dies
William James Henry Jr., 72,
of Rt. 1, Spartanburg Highway,
died Sunday.
A native and lifelong resident
of Clinton, he was a son of the
late William and Ada Henry. He
was a farmer, associated with
Ford Motor Co., the Clinton Pro
duction Assn., served as Clinton
City Councilman and was a Lau
rens County commissioner. He
was a World War I veteran and
member of the First Presbyter
ian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Pearl Stone Henry; two daugh
ters, Mrs. Carolyn H. Crowson
of Charlotte, N. C., and Mrs.
Virginia H. McKinnon of Cairo,
Ga.; a brother, Dr. R. F. Henry
of Leesville; and eight grand
children.
Funeral services were held
Monday at Gray Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Presbyterian
Church cemetery.
Services were conducted by the
Revs. Alfred L. Bixler and J.
H. Darr. Pallbearers were Roy
Workman, John Mabry, Mac A-
dair, Gary Stone, Mike Turner
and A. A. Ramage Jr.
G. H. Roach
SENECA - Glenn Hoyt Roach,
66, of 601 S. Fair Play St., died
Sunday. He was a brother of Ho
ward G. Roach of Clinton.
Other survivors include his
wife, a daughter, three other bro
thers and a sister.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at Westminster First
Baptist Church with burial in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart
Mrs. Janie Bodie Stewart, 83,
of the Laurens Highway, widow
of Reuben C. Stewart, died Sun
day.
She was a native of Edgefield
County but had lived in Clinton
46 years. She was a daughter of
the late Creighton K. and Nancy
Nelson Brown. For many years
she was employed atWhittenVil-
lage and was a member of Broad
Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Gary
R. Bodie of Virginia Beach, Va.,
Homer C. Bodie of Clinton, C.
Lee Bodie of Taylors, andJames
F. Bodie of Prineville, Ore.;
two daughters, Mrs. 0. B. King
of Clinton and Mrs. V. M. Grill
of Greer; four sisters, Mrs. Ef-
fie Minick of Saluda, Mrs. Mag
gie Leaphart of Sebring, Fla.,
Mrs. Ethel Lee Hilburn of Co
lumbia and Mrs. Hoyt Nickolson
of Saluda; and 10 grandchildren,
14 great-grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were Tues
day at St. Paul Methodist Church
at Plum Branch. Burial was in
the Plum Branch cemetery.
Services were conducted by the
Revs. E. W. Rogers, Raymond
Bodie and Mike B. Lee. Pall
bearers were grandsons Warren
0. White, James R. White and
Carl E. Bodie and nephews, Joe
Perry Brown, Ray Wall and Billie
Bodie.
Mrs. Moore
COLUMBIA - Mrs. Nell Jack-
son Moore, 52, of 2123 Marion
Ave., died Wednesday, March 18.
She was the mother of Phillip
Moore of Clinton.
Other survivors include ano
ther son, two brothers, three
sisters.
Mrs. Young
JOANNA - Mrs. Clarice Rich
ey Young, of 536 Whitmire High
way and wife of J. Clyde Young
died Monday afternoon at home.
She made her home in Abbeville
until moving to Joanna in 1943.
She was a daughter of the late
William A. and Minnie Bell Rich
ey. She was formerly employed at
Hallmark Shirt Company.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Joanna and the
Joanna Woman’s Club.
She is survived by her hus
band, J. Clyde Young; four sis
ters, Mrs. A. B. Wickliffe,
Greenville, Mrs. Vera Fellows,
Anderson, Mrs. Charlie Dansley,
Mrs. Lee Fellows both of Abbe
ville; four brothers, Byron Rich
ey, Kenneth Richey, Louie Rich
ey, Blease Richey, all of Abbe
ville.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday in Epworth
Methodist Church. Burial was in
Forest Lawn Cemetery, Abbe
ville.
Nephews served as pall
bearers: Tommy Fellows, Sam
my Fellows, Louie Richey Jr.,
Buddy Fellows, Kenny Richey Jr.,
and Tommy Richey.
I. F. Walker
UNION - John Frost Walker,
88, of 106 Douglas Heights, for
mer judge of UnionCountyCourt,
died Thursday, March 19.
Judge Walker was the father of
J. Frost Walker Jr. of Clinton.
He practiced law from 1904 until
1960 when he was named judge
of Union County Court.
Other survivors include his
wife, a daughter, another son,
seven grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were con
ducted Friday at Grace United
Methodist Church with burial in
the church cemetery.

GREENVILLE - Henry Ruther
ford Franks, 70, of Reedy Fork
Road, Route 4, Greenville, died
Sunday. A Hhative of Laurens
County, he was a brother ofMrs.
Martha F. Miller andMrs.Emily
F. Dominick of Joanna.
Other survivors include his
wife, four daughters, two sons,
another sister and 21 grandchild
ren.
Funeral services were con
ducted Monday at Thomas Mc
Afee Funeral Home with burial
in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
