Sloan recently re ceived the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally meritor ious service during his 23-month assignment with thellnitedStates Army Signal Research Unit 20, Army Security Agency, Tehran, Iran. During his four-year enlist ment with the Army Security A- gency, Sloan rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, E6, serving his final tour as an administrative supervisor with his unit at the American Embassy, Tehran. The commendation was signed by Major General Charles J. Denholm, commanding general of the U. S. Army Security Agency, and secretary of the Army Stan ley R. Resor. CONNOR Mrs. Connor, Prater Honored At Jr. High On Tuesday, March 24, a spe cial assembly program was held at Clinton Junior High School to dedicate the 1969-70 yearbook. The yearbook was dedicated to Mr. “Hack” Prater and Mrs. Grace Connor who have faithfully served in the field of education for a number of years. Mr. Prater, a native of Jo anna, graduated from Clinton High School and ErskineCollege. He has served in School District #56 as teacher, principal, and physical education instructor. In addition to his school work, his activities outside the school itself have been invaluable to the young people of this area. Serv ing as a recreational director during his summers and after school hours and devoting much time and effort to his church, he has enriched many lives. Don na Franklin demonstrated how she makes an apron, Margie Spi vey demonstrated making a shoe bag to go on closet door, Ann demonstrated a soiled clothes bag. Helen Summers demonstrat ed making a jewelry box, Jo Ann Summers demonstrated making a dress and Maxine Spi vey demonstrated making a clothes pin bag. After the meet ing, refreshments were served. Miss Wanda Rock and Mrs. N. A. Shouse met with the club and Mrs. Leo Rock visited with the group. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wright are receiving congratulations on a baby girl. County GOP Votes 9-5 For Convention Laurens County delegates to the South Carolina Republi can Convention in Columbia Sat urday voted with the majority, by a vote of nine to five, to retain the convention method of choosing statewide and Con gressional candidates for the forthcoming general election. The primary method has been urged by Charleston Delegate Ar thur Ravenel, who also sought the nomination for Governor. The Laurens County delegates were one hundred per cent in their endorsement of Congressman Al bert Watson for Governor. Con gressman Watson was unani mously chosen as the Republican nominee for Governor of South Carolina. W’atson a five-term congressman, was nominated by South Carolina's Senior Senator Strom Thurmond, who described Watson as "a believer in local self government--yet a progres sive--and a man who can win.' In the Lieutenant Governor contest, the Laurens County dele gates cast all 14 votes for James M. Henderson, of Greenville, who defeated Senator Gilbert McMill an, of Aiken, 338 to 68. The convention recessed until April 2, when it will reconvene to nominate candidates for the state’s constitutional offices. Delegates from Laurens Coun ty included the following from Clinton: David R. Meyers, James P. Sloan, Gus Ramage, Len H. Ledford, and Robert F. Black. Additional county delegates were: Ted Anderson, Hance Finley, W. R. Garrett, Furman Ott, Mrs. Furman Ott, Martin Miller, Mrs. Frank Childress, BiUWatsonand Mrs. W. D. LeGrand.
