1 I 6-A—THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., March 19, 1970 Donnie Womble Walter Spann Donnie E. Womble, 49, of 1001 Sloan St., died Monday. A son of the late Julius Earl and Jessie Jeffcoat Womble, he was a native of West Columbia but lived here most of his life where he was employed by Clin ton Mills. He was a World War II veteran and member of Beth any Presbyterian Church and the church council. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Childress Womble; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Barbery of Laurens; a son, Wayne Wom ble of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Abbie Samples of Belmont, N. C. and Mrs. Nell Moore of Ocean Drive; two brothers, Julius Wom ble of Clinton and Freddie Wom ble of Columbia. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McCarson LAURENS - Mrs. Minnie Lee Seay McCarson, 76, of Route 2, Laurens, died Wednesday, March 11, in Greenville. She was the mother of Sherman Lee Mc Carson of Joanna. Other survivors include her husband, a daughter, three other sons, 35 grandchildren and 42 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Friday at Bellview Bap tist Church with burial in Rose- mont Cemetery in Clinton. * * * Pond Drowning Ruled Accidental Laurens County Coroner Mar shall Pressley has ruled that the Saturday death of EarlStrick- land, 21, of Olanta, was a result of “accidental drowning.” Strickland’s body was found at 10:45 p.m. Saturday by members of the Laurens County Rescue Squad in one of the ponds at Whitten Village. Dragging operations were in progress when the victim’s body was located. Strickland’s fishing rod and reel were found near the edge of the pond, according to the coron er. Pressley estimated the time of the drowning at about 1 p.m. Saturday. There was no indication of foul play and an inquest will not be scheduled, the coroner said. Walter Spann, 51, ofMayport, Fla., died March 12. He was a native of Clinton and lived in Mayport several years. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Julia Taylor of Clinton, Mrs. Lilly Godley of Mayport and Mrs. Irene Louis of Brook lyn, N. Y.; and two brothers, Goggin Spann ofClinton and Louis Spann of Baltimore, Md. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Thompson’s Mort uary. Burial was in Friendship Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Boone GREENWOOD - Mrs.Odell El- lenberg Boone, 55, of Route 5, Greenwood, died Tuesday. She was a stepsister of Ben Jester of Joanna. Other survivors include her husband, her stepfather, a son, a sister, three stepsisters and two other stepbrothers. Funeral service will be con ducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at New Market Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. # * * II Fred Oxley Is Killed In Wreck Fred Wilton Oxley, 54, of 421 Academy St., Laurens, was killed Tuesday in a one-car wreck on U.S. 276, about 300 yards inside the Laurens County line. Mr. Oxley was driving a 1962 Falcon, headed east, when the accident occured about 1:05 p.m. An unidentified motorist travel ing in the same direction said he saw Mr. Oxley’s vehicle weave, leave the road and plunge down a 12-foot embankment. The car struck a concrete culvert, flipped over and threw the victim from the car. Mr. Oxley was dead at the wreck scene, according to Laurens County Coroner Mar shall Pressley. A native of Greenwood County, but reared in Clinton, Mr. Oxley was a veteran of World War H and was a member of First Unit ed Methodist Church in Laurens. Mr. Oxley was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Oxlev. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sue Adair Oxley, a native of Clinton; a daughter, Miss Florence Ann Oxley ofColumbia; a son, Fred W. Oxley Jr. of Co lumbia; and a brother, Robert S. Oxley of Columbia. Graveside services were held Wednesday at Rosemont Ceme tery in Clinton. We Pay More.
