Last week, Bell Street High
held its Intermural Tournament.
Monday night’s games g"t the
tournament underway as the
sophorm re boys and girls battled
the junior girls and l*>ys. The
game ended in a victory for tlie
sophomores. On Tuesday night
the freshmen boys and girlseasi-
ly defeated the senior girl's and
boy's teams.

The all-stars, from eachofthe
teams that participated in the
tournament, were equally excited
when they found out about the
game between the All-Stars and
faculty. To everyone's astonish
ment the All-Stars lost on Wed
nesday.
The Future Teachers of
America Organization is in the
process of preparing a college
day trip in the near future. More
details concerning the trip will
be given in another issue.

Rural residents engaged in
farming today are far out
numbered by those employed in
manufacturing, services, and
other jobs typical of any city. Only
about one-fourth of all rural re
sidents are farm people.
Interest in the current mem
bership drive for the 1970-71
season of the Community Con
cert Association of Clinton is
heightened this week with infor
mation regarding the tentative at
tractions announced last week
which now seem to be assured
as a part of Laurens County’s
fine arts program in the months
ahead. Hostesses are on duty this
week at the headquarter’s office
at the Mary Musgrove Hotel
where Mrs. Jerry Edwards is in
charge, and workers are report
ing daily to Mrs. James Shakes
peare, membership chairman,
and Mrs. Don Creighton, co-
chairman. Mrs. Mary Wallace,
Columbia Artists Management’s
co-chairman. Mrs. Mary Wall
ace, Columbia Artists Manage
ment’s representative from New
York, is also on hand this week
to talk with those who are in
terested in the artists who will
perform in Clinton. Anyone may

The 1970-71 series will include
The Neil Wolfe Trio. Neil Wolfe,
pianist, who leads the trio that
bears his name, has been a
prodigious performer since he
began to study at age seven,
and early developed an intrigu
ing style that caused Barbra
Streisand to exclaim several
years ago, “He’s one of the most
exciting new pianist-composers I
have ever met!” Since that time
he has made several hit record
ings with Miss Streisand. Unlike
most pianists, Wolfe relies on
counterpoint rather than har
mony, a choice which makes his
interpretations unique. Bass and
percussion with the piano
produce exciting listening.
Lovers of the gay Gilbert and
Sullivan operas will welcome
"The World of Gilbert and Sulli
van" with six talented alumni of
London's famed D'Oyly Carte Op
era Company. Steeped in the
grand tradition of the masterful
composers, they will present fav
orites from “The Mikado,” “Pi
rates of Penzance," “TheGondo
liers,” “H.M.S. Pinafore,” “lo-
lanthe," and others. Their per
formance promises an evening of
sparkling light entertainment as
the artists are known to dance
and sing with energy and good
humor as well as polished ar
tistry.

The First Chamber Dance
Company was recently reor
ganized to include the exciting
husband-wife team of Lisa Brad
ley and Michael Uthoff. The com
pany appeared to great acclaim in
Europe and was sent on a four-
month tour of the world by the
U. S. Dept, of State Cultural
Presentations Program, under
whose auspices they performed
in 13 countries of the Middle and
Far East. The idea of “chamber
dance” is relatively new and grew
from a desire on the part of the
dancers to communicate with
their audiences in a warm and
personal manner. Their program
here will include classical, lyri
cal, and dramatic numbers.
New members are reminded
that they may hear free of charge
the third attraction of the current
series, the Princeton Chamber
Orchestra on Thursday evening,
April 2, in Belk Auditorium.
According to the U.S. Depart
ment of Labor, 59 out of every
100 jobs existing in 1950 were
in service-producing industries.
Today, 65 out of every 100 jobs
are in service industries and the
figure is projected to rise to 68
out of every 100 by 1975.
