CLUB MEETS
The Eurecka Club held its
monthly meeting on Friday night
with Mrs. AlfredaG. Bodenhamer
at her home on West Carolina
Avenue.
The living room and den was
lovely with seasonal decorations.
Mrs. Gloria N. Scott, club pre
sident, presided during the busi
ness session. Following the busi
ness session the hostess served
refreshments consisting ofbar-
becue ribs, baked beans, cole
slaw, hot rolls, lemon meringue
pie and punch. Club members in
attendance were from Newberry,
Laurens and this city.
Many women and men in white
were participants in a march
at Mount Zion AME Church, Jo
anna on Sunday evening. The
march was led by Mrs. Pernella
V. Jones who delivered an ad
dress “Bridging The Gap" and
Mr. JacobMoore spoke on “Man's
Responsibility to God and His
Home."
Music was furnished by Fair-
view, New Bethel, Mount Cowell
Missionary and other groups.
Rev. W. L. Hunter is pastor
of the church. Several ministers
also witnessed the program.
While in Atlanta they also had a
surprise visit with IstSgt. Julian
E. Sweetenburg who stopped in
the city enroute to Vietnam. He is
the brother of Mrs. Young.
Mrs. Louisa H. Gary and child
ren of Brooklyn, N. Y. has re
turned to that city after a visit
here with her sister, Mrs. Alice
Hill, who has been indisposed.
Mr. Miller Dowdy observed a
birthday on March 3.
Mr. Bennie Dowdy observed a
birthday on March 6 and his
daughter, Lesa’s birthday was on
March 9.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Cunning
ham spent the weekend in Co
lumbia with their children and
grandchildren, the Walter Way-
mer family.
Rev. and Mrs. Peter Moon and
Mrs. Pearl Rice attended the
1st Quarterly Session of the Lay
man Organization of the New
Enoree Baptist Association at
Mount Zion Baptist Church, He
lena, S. C. on Sunday evening.
Mrs. Julia Taylor left the city
on Saturday for Jacksonville,
Fla. to visit her sister, Mrs.
Lillie B. Gooden and brother,
Mr. Walter Spann. Both of them
are indisposed.
Mr. Thomas J. Rice, an em
ployee of Presbyterian College,
was surprised recently on his
birthday by his co-workers. His
birthday was March 4.
Miss Glenda Maddox, a stu
dent at Friendship College spent
the weekend with her grand
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
J. Rice. She also had a birth
day on the same date as her
grandfather, March 4.
O’BRYANT - BROWN WEDDING
Mrs. Lydia O’Bryant of Colum
bia and Johnny R. Brown of this
city exchanged wedding vows Sat
urday at the home of the bride’s
parents.
The bride is a student at Be
nedict College. She is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry O’
Bryant of 1641 Steadfast Street
in Columbia.
MRS. JOHNNY BROWN
The groom is a teacher at
Sanders High School, Laurens.
He is the son of Mrs. Johnie V.
Brown of this city.
Miss Cecilia Thompson was
maid of honor.
Henry Brown, the groom’s bro
ther was best man.
The Rev. Rufus Brown, the
bride’s pastor heard the vows.
The bride’s dress was a short,
white creation.
The wedding was directed by
Mrs. Strickland.
A reception was held at Green-
view Baptist Church Educational
Building immediately following
FRED GIST
DELIVERS INITIAL SERMON
Mr. Fred Gist delivered his
initial sermon for the ministry
to a full audience at Hebron Bap
tist Church on Sunday evening at
4 p.m.
Mr. Robert Fuller and Mr.
Thomas J. Rice conducted the
devotion.
Rev. W. D. Coker, the host
pastor, presided and presented
the speaker. Mr. Gist used ^t.
John 8:12-15 as biblical scripture
while capitalizing on the theme
“I Am The Light of the World.”
Mrs. Rubye M. Gist sang a so
lo while the W. D. Coker Chora-
leers sang.
Out of town guests who came
to witness the occasion were from
Woodruff, Laurens, Spartanburg,
Union, Walterboro, Mountville
and Charleston, also Charlotte,
N. C. Many ministers were on
the rostum.
He resides with his wife, Mrs.
Pearl Gist and three sons on the
Airport Road.
Miss Jacqueline HenryandMi-
chael Henry of Washington, D. C.
spent the past week in the city.
They came to be with their aunt
Mrs. Leola H. Burton, who is a
patient at Bailey Memorial
Hospital. We are hoping for her a
speedy recovery.

Young who is based at Charles
ton Naval Base spent the past
weekend with his wife and fami

SYMPATHIZES WITH FAMILY
Sympathy is extended to the
family of the late Mrs. Cora
Moses of Cross Hill who passed
recently.
Among the many survivors in
the city is a son and daughter,
James Moses of Gary Street and
Mrs. Alberta Carter ofCentenial
Street.
She was also the grand
mother of many, among them is
Policeman Willie J. Carter.

children and Mrs. Irene Price
spent the weekend with Mr. and
