Joanna defeated the 76ers 29-
17 and the Tigers beat the Hawks

Tuesday.
Vaughan was high scorer for
Joanna with 19 points and Undari
scored eight for the 76ers. Roach
scored 14 to lead the Tigers
and Gaines had 10 for the Hawks.
MEN’S LEAGUE
The Jaycees and Torrington
chalked up victories last week
in the YMCA Men’s Basketball
League. The Jaycees dumped Ki-
wanis 83-68 and Torrington beat
Joanna 52-40.
Price, with 27 points, and Arm
strong, with 26, led the Jaycees
while Mike Lausman scored 38
for Kiwanis.
Douglas poured in 33 points
to lead Torrington while Stock-
man was high for Joanna with 17.

4 medium-sized yams
(about 2 pounds)
1 medium-sized onion,
chopped
Itt cups cooked ham strips
3 tablespoons bacon
drippings or salad oil
Pare raw yams and dice.
Combine yams with onion
and ham. Heat bacon drip
pings (or salad oil) in 10-inch
skillet. Spread yam mixture
evenly over bottom of skillet.
Cover and cook, stirring oc
casionally, over low heat 20
minutes or until thoroughly
cooked. Makes 4-6 servings.

pells passed away on Friday at
Self Memorial Hospital. A num
ber of people from this com
munity attended his funeral at
Chappells Baptist ChurchonSun-
day afternoon. Mr. Watkins was
the brother of Mrs. Gary Boaz-
man.
Friends will be interested to
know that W. W. Simpson Sr.,
is a patient in the Veterans’
Hospital in Augusta and that Mrs.
Simpson is in Bailey Memorial
Hospital in Clinton.
There are quite a tew sick
people in the community. Mr. and
Mrs. E. A. Whiteford have Just
returned from Bailey Memorial
Hospital while Miss Leila Bry
son is still there. Mrs. A. A.
Workman is in Self Memorial in
Greenwood.
