‘STAR STUDENT—James Robins Smiith, left, of

Laurens County ‘Star Students’ who will be honor
ed this Thursday night, Feb. 12, at Hotel Mary
Musgrove. Dr. Marc Weersing of PC, will be fea
tured speaker at the supper meeting which is spon
sored by the Clinton Kiwanis Club. Smith named
Miss Frances Sheely as his ‘Star Teacher.’ The
Star Student-Teacher program is a statewide proj
ect of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce with the
Clinton Chamber of Commerce co-sponsoring the
program for Laurens County.

As the days progress, the jun
iors are still busy practicing for
the Junior class play, “Up the
Down Staircase." This production
will be presented the second
weekend in March.
During the past week the sen
iors have been paying for their
diploma covers. Having already
been measured for caps and
gowns, having ordered their in
vitations, and having received
their rings, they are becoming
more and more aware of their
approaching graduation.

Last Monday the February is
sue of the “Sentinel” was is
sued. Featured in this eight-
page paper was Steve Bishop,
the January Student of the
Month.
The crowning of the 1970 King
of Hearts will take place in a
chapel program Friday, Feb. 13.
All of the candidates for King
of Hearts and their sponsors will
participate in this program. A
few talented students will pro
vide entertainment.

Shady Grove Homemakers Ex
tension Club met Tuesday, Feb. 3
at 5 p.m. at Shady Grove Club
House. Miss Helen Camp, Home
Extension Agent, gave a very in
formative demonstration on how
to make bound button holes. Af
ter making the button holes,
members were given directions
to follow.
Booklets on “Tailoring Tips”
were distributed. Members pre
sent donated money to be sent
to County office to be used for
patients in Laurens County who
were at State Park. The club
members welcomed two new
members, Mrs. Janet Crabtree
and Mrs. Mozelle Gardner.
Shady Grove 4-H will meet
Wednesday Feb. 18 at 4 p.m.
at the Club House. All members
are urged to be present.
Members of the Community are
invited to join with members of
Fairview Baptist Church next
week for mission week. Rev. Al
fred Fisher has announced the
following speakers.
