Obedience Needed In Faith

Obedience to God is a neces
sity to vital faith in Him. Many
try to separate the two. Such sep
aration allows one to make
affirmations of faith without
changing his way of life. It al
lows one to preach heaven and
live like hell. Anyone who takes
Jesus Christ seriously knows
that the Christian cannot sep
arate faith and obedience.
We are hearing much about
the love of God. The recent
observance of Christmas pointed
this i5>---God giving his Son,
“ For: God so loved the world
that he gave his only begotten
Son thgt whosoever believeth on
Him should not perish but have
everla$ting life.”
The love of which the Bible
speaks is spiritual and sacri
ficial love. It is not erotic love.
But whatever we say about love,
we must never forget that back
of the love of God is the judg
ment of God. That’s the lesson
of Calvary. The judgment for
man's sins was laid on Jesus
Christ. He paid the price for
our sin---spiritual death.
There is danger in being good
for goodness sake. That is pride.
It is piosity at its worst. Com
mitment to Christ is wholeheart
ed or it is nothing.
Back in the Old Testament
with its ritual of sacrifice of
beasts, we read, “To obey
is better than sacrifice; and to
hearken than the fat of rams.”
Real faith demands full com
mitment. This is true in our
relations with our fellowman and
with God. For example, the rea
son so many of our marriages
fail is because there is no true
commitment of husband and wife
to one another; there is no sac
rificial love.
It is equally true that in our
relations with God. We are either
saved or we are lost. There is
no half-way point.
It will be remembered that at
the trial of Jesus, Peter fail
ed and denied Him because he
followed afar off. We are in
partnership with our Lord, or
we are not.
Three daily prayers are nec
essary: (1) ‘‘God be merciful
to me a sinner”; ( 2) ‘ Not my
will but Thine be done.’ (3)
‘‘Lord, what wilt thou have me
to do?’
No matter what your problem
may be, the conscientious follow
ing of these three steps brings
the answer. The answer comes
because we are in parternership
with the One who knows all an
swers to all problems.
