In continuation of the study of
the short story, Mrs. C.B. Betts
read “Chore Boy” by R.S. She-
rick at the meeting of the Wed
nesday Study Club.
The scene of the story was
laid on an Indiana Farm, and gave
a graphic description of local
farm life and a character study
of an adopted boy.
Refreshments of salad, coffee
and cookies were served. Mrs.
W.W. Harris was hostess to group
at her home on W. Centennial St.

ton. They are displaying a picture
of the Lace House which was built in
1850 and was purchased last year. It
is to be used like the “Blair House”
in Washington. The Commission was
established in 1965 to beautify and
perpetuate the Governor’s Masion in
Columbia and to create interest in
furnishing it with articles of his
torical significance. Also attending
the meeting at Mrs. Dixon's home
were Mrs. James Macdonald of Clin
ton, Mrs. Jim Todd, Jr., of Laurens,
Mrs. William Orders and Mrs. J. F.
Chandler of Greenville.

Donnie Frank Bailey on January
31 at Rocky Springs Presbyter
ian Church. Dr. Robert C.
Bankhead performed the four o’
clock ceremony. A reception
was given the Fellowship Hall
of the church.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. James Duvall Cunningham
of Route 1, Clinton. A gradu
ate of Clinton High School, she
is employed at M.S. Bailey and
Son, Bankers.
The groom is the son of Mr.
Donnie Bailey or Route 1, Flo
rence. He is a graduate of
McClenaghan High School, and
is employed at Torrington Com
pany.
Given in marriage by her fa
ther, the bride chose a floor
length gown of ivory satin over
laid with lace. It was enhanced
with long lace sleeves. Scallops
of lace decorated the dress front,
and also timmed the train which
fell from a large back pleat.
Alarge bow and streamers of sa
tin added to the effect. The bri
dal bouquet was a formal cas
cade of miniature carnations,
topped with a white orchid.
The matron of honor, Linda
Ficklin of Clinton, sister of the
bride, wore a floor length yel
low crepe gown with satin bow
similar to that of the bride. Her

Sunbonnet Club
On Monday afternoon, January
26, the Sunbonnet Garden Club
met at the home of Mrs. A.C.
Young in Merrie Oaks. The pre
sident, Mrs. KenFryfogle, pre
sided over the business session.
Guest speaker for the occasion
was Mrs. S.T. Plowden, who gave
a most informative and practical
study of organic gardening.
After the program, members
were invited into the dining room,
where delicious refreshments
were served buffet style. Hos
tesses assisting Mrs. Young were
Mrs. D.H. Roberts and Mrs. Wil
liam Henry.

Shortly after 4 o’clock Satur

the class of 1971, Clinton High
School, dashed across the finish
line at the Shopping Center, a-
nother TAP project was comple
ted, and the total amount secured
by Clinton High teen-agers to
fight birth defects through the
March of Dimes passed the thou
sand dollar mark
The "event" was the "Walka-
thon" sponsored by the Teen-
Action Program of the National
Foundation-March of Dimes in
the Clinton area, the climax of
month-long activity on thepart ’f
the town's youthful population,
led by Kathy Frady andGeneSim-
mons, TAP chairmen, and Mrs.
Tony Benson, adult advisor. An
enthusiastic group 1 4senior highs
met Saturday morning at 10
o’clock at radio station WPCC for
the start of the walk and
"walkers" were named by class
chairmen, to move forward at the
rate of one step for each dime
collected by members of their
class, their goal to be the shop
ping center at the north end of
town. Cars were stopped and re
sidences along the way were can
vassed for funds to move the con
testants, and though the walking
was slow through the unpopulated
“outskirts” of town, the move
ment quickened as the race
neared the Armory.
The eleventh graders were de
clared winners “by a nose" with
the Seniors in hot pursuit, col
lecting an equal amount of money.

graduated from Lenoir College,
