Su- ber on D. Street. The approximately 20 guests were greeted at the entrance by the hostess and invited into the lovely living room. Dr. Mary C. Whitener, club president, pre sided over the business session. Many plans were made to con summate prior to the Founder’s Day Observance. During the social hour, re freshments were served buffet style from the dining room table. Miss Marilyn Suber assisted her mother in entertaining her guests. The next meeting is to be held in Laurens on Feburary 1. CONTEST HELD Friendship A ME Church was the setting for a little Allen Star Contest on Jan. 11. The participants were Little Misses Gloria Jackson, Beverly Mason, Cassandra Simon, Bev erly J. Young and Norman Irby. Cross Hill News BY MRS. SARAH SFGARS Lt. Hayne B. Workman Jr. has returned home after a year in Vietnam and has completed his active duty with the UnitedStates Army. Lt. Workman received the Bronze Star in ceremonies in Vietnam >n Dec. 31, 1969. Mrs. R. W. Griffin has re turned from a visit to Mr. and Mrs. BUI L-uett and family in Atlanta, Ga. Miss Leila Bryson is a patient in Bailey Mem inal Hospital in Clinton. The community was saddened by the death of Henry K. Boyce Sr. of Whitmire on Jan. 5. Enock Pinson, who was reared m the community, died at his home in Gray Court recently. His funeral services were at Liberty Springs. Lindy Sigars has been con fined to her home as the result of a fall. Mrs. Fred Williams is a pa tient in Self Memorial Hospital. MUSICAL CONCERT The Musical Religious Con cert met at Scurry Springs Bap- tist Church, Chappells on Sun day afternoon. The president, James Motes presided. Music was rendered by member choirs. This was the first meeting of the year. Mrs. Elnora Summers is secretary. The next meeting will be at Wateree Baptist Church. SORIORITY The Zeta Lambda Zeta Chap ter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority of Laurens County held its month ly meeting at the home of Soror Pernella- V. Jones, Gary St., Fri day night. Highlights of the busi ness discussion was the annual Blue Revue and “Finer Woman- Hood Week” to be observed the 4th Sunday in February atSpring- field Baptist Church in Laurens. Mrs. Mattie Harmon of Ja- macia, N.Y., is in the city with her sister, Mrs. Hattie Gary who was recently dismissed from Bailey Memorial Hospital. William Goggins left on Satur day for the state of New York where he will make his home. * George Swindler ofWashington D. C., has returned to that city after being called here due to the death of his grandmother, the late Mrs. Bennie Bell who was funeralized at Bethlehem Grove Baptist Church on last Thursday. Sympathy is expressed to the family. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Rice and other relatives re cently were Sam Dillard and Alex Brown of Brooklyn, N. Y. While here they went hunting. Henry Brown, a student at Benedict College, spent the past weekend with his mother, Mrs. Johnie V. Brown and other re latives on Martha Dendy. Mrs. Bertha Jones and Mrs. Lillian Davis were Saturday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stonewall Craig and family on Tribble Street. On Sunday morn ing they all attended service at Hebron Baptist Church. Lumus Byrd Jr. of Charleston spent the weekend with relatives in the city. Mrs. Aurelia Jacks is at home in the Lydia Mill area after a lengthly hospitalization period at Bailey Memorial Hospital. She is much improved. Serviceman and Mrs. Luther Burton of Columbia spent the past weekend with their parent^ here in J oanna. Mrs. Mary Teague Lindsay and Mrs. Lula Moon are much im proved at their Gary Street home after an illness. Sp4 JamesAlbertSmith has re turned from Vietnam and is spending a leave with his mother Mrs. Hazel S. Thrift on Gary St. After the leave, he will be sta tioned at Ft. Jackson, Colum bia.
