T. Whitmore and family were called toEnoree on Tuesday, due to the sudden death of her sister, Mrs. Clyde Hughes. Funeral services were held on Thursday. Sherry and Dell Campbell spent the weekend with their mother and brother, Mrs. Jim Davenport and Mr. Davenport and Steve Camp bell in Greenville. Mrs. J. W. Weir, Mr. and Mrs. David Word, Miss Sue Word, Mr. and Mrs. William Weir and fami ly and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mad den were in Greenville the first of last week because of the death of the former’s daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur Weir. She was the sister-in-law ofMrs. Word, Mrs. Madden and Mr. Weir. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie James attended the funeral of her bro ther-in-law, Mr. H. F. Gordon in Ablieville on Wednesday of last week. S/M BODENHAMER CSM Bodenhamer Receives Medal Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Arnett H. Bodenhamer was recently presented the Army Commendation medal for merito rious services while stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. This is the third commendation medal awarded to CSM Bodenhamer. He departed recently for a se cond tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was assigned as Com mand Sergeant Major, 6th. Bat talion 14th. Field Artillery. CSM Bodenhamer's other decorations include the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Fourth Award, National Defense, United Nations Rep. of Vietnam Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and The Vietnam Campaign Medal. This of ten has a surprising way of smoothing out these wrinkles. Men's Day Set At Davidson St. Baptist Men’s Day will be ob“ served Sunday at Davidson Street Baptist Church. The purpose, ac cording to the pastor, Rev. M. Floyd Hellams, is to recognize, use, and honor the laymen of the church and to offer them an op portunity to witness publicly a- bout their faith and to inspire others in the Christian faith. The special day’s activities will begin with a Men’s and Boy’s Prayer Breakfast at 8 a.m., pre pared and served by the men. The men of the church will have charge of the morning and even ing worship services, compose an all Men’s Choir directed by John Gallman, and present mess ages using the theme, “Our Times Demand Men Involved in Chris tian Service,” conducted by C. S. Quarles, Brotherhood director. At 3:30, the men will conduct a service at the Laurens Nursing Center. Marvin DeYoung will pre side during the evening service at 7:30, and Dr. Layton Fraser, Bible Professor Emeritus of Presbyterian College, will pre sent his film, “The Hope of Man.” The interested public is invited to attend. * * * Iroquois Society The Iroquois Indian soci ety came close to being a matriarchy. The clan was based on descent througb the women who owned crops and houses. Although they did not actually rule, the women chose the rulers and had the power to recall if a chief did not live up to ex pectations Q. Is there any way to add “burning life” to candles? A. Candles will burn consider ably longer if given a coat of shellac, which tends to retain the molten wax around the wick, in stead of its running down the side of the candle. Q. How can I clean stained wallpaper? A. Fingermarks can some times be removed by rubbing over them with a piece of bread. A fresh grease spot will often corke off if you hold a piece of whilte blotting paper or a facial tissue over it with a warm iron. Also, many marks can be ob literated by careful use of a soft art-gum eraser. Q. How can I make a good job of washing out dress shields? A. Use lukewarm water and a teaspoon of baking soda for this. Rub soap on a small brush, and brush both sides of the shields. Then rinse in water of the same temperature. Q. What is a good way to pre vent a washed sweater from stretching? A. One such preventive in volves your rinsing procedure. Try rinsing the sweater in a colander, squeezing out the ex cess water gently. One section of my new household manual deals with laundering techniques. Q. How can I forestall the danger of yellowing in white clothing I am storing away? A.
