I SAFETY AWARD — These Clinton Mills Plant No. 1 employees hold the safety certificate which Plant No. 1 received recently for operating one year without a disabling injury. The certificate was pre sented by the South Carolina Occu pational Safety Council. Torrington Announces Several Promotions Richard Bodmer, Plant Man ager of The Clinton Bearings Plant, has announced the promo tion of several employees. These employees have accepted posi tions with the new Torrington Company plant in Honea Path, South Carolina. George Roper has accepted the promotion from Assistant Pur chasing Agent at the Clinton Bearings Plant to Purchasing A- gent at the Specialties Plant in Honea Path. George is a grad uate of The University of South Carolina in Business Adminis tration. Following graduation he served in the U. S. Air Force as an Auditor. George joined The Torrington Company in 1965, having previously been employed by Laurens Mills. George will be responsible for the purchaisng of all products except raw ma terials for the new Specialties Plant. In addition, Betsy Roper will be joining the staff of the Spe cialties Plant as Engineer- rng Secretary. Betsy has been an employee of The Torrington Company since 1964. The Ropers are presently living in Laurens, but expect to move to Honea Path in the very near future. Willis “Buzz” Sawyer has join ed the staff of the Specialties Plant as Building and Mainten ance Foreman. “Buzz” has been employed by The Torrington Company since 1961. His most recent capacity with the Company has been that of Maintenance Su pervisor at the Clinton Plant. In his new capacity "Buzz” will t>e responsible for maintenance of buildings, grounds, plant equipment, electrical and air conditioning systems in the new plant. The Sawyer family is now residing in Donald, South Car olina, naving moved there from 105 Gordon Street in Clinton. Aaron Balkham is now serv ing as Secondary Operations Su pervisor at the Specialties Plant. Aamn has l>een employed by The Torrington Company since Jan. 1968. He has spent the greatest portion of his employment in on- ttie-job training for this super visory job. Aaron comes to The Torrington Company after having served 20 years with the U. S. Air Force, where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. The Balkham family will continue to reside on Fair Street in Clin ton, for the foreseeable future. Roger Strode, Plant Manager of the Specialties Plant, stated “We are extremely happy to have these valued Torrington Company employees join us at Honea Path. We know that their varied ex perience will help us to get into production at the new facility as rapidly as possible.” * * * Tinsley Serves In Charleston Boilerman Second Class Lon nie B. Tinsley, Jr., USN, son of Mr. Lonnie B. Tinsley of 403 Shand St., Clinton, is serving at the U. S. Naval Station in Char leston, S. C. The station provides logistic support for operating forces of the Navy, including destroyers, submarines and minecraft. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Parrish and Tami and Charles Williams were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Parrish Jr. in Aiken. While there, they attended the State Fair. j Miss Lavada Sanders and Mrs. Cleo Jordon of Palatka, Fla., spent the weekend with their bro ther, Rev. M. J. Sanders and Mrs. Sanders. Their mother, Mrs. N.J. Sanders returned home with them after several weeks here with her son and family. Rev. Sanders continues to improve from his extended illness. Mr. and Mrs. Odie Nelson and family were called to Laurens Sunday because of the death of his mother, Mrs. W. A. Nelson. Fun eral services were held Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Williams visited his son, Edward and Mrs. Williams in Newberry on Sat urday. due to the death of their father and brother W. P. Terrell. Also his grandson, S/Sgt. Billy Dick erson, Mrs. Dickerson and daughter of Ft. Knox, Ky. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Meeks and children attended the funer al of her grandmother Mrs. Clara Lanford in Cross Anchor on Wed nesday of last week. Miss Gloria Jackson of Green wood spent the weekend with her mother Mrs. Ezzie Miller and Mr. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Webb and Cathy and Mrs. Fred Mathis spent Sunday in Chester with the latter’s sister, Mrs. Ambrose Carter and Mr. Carter also Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Hinson and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fallaw and Mrs. Mary Fallaw visited Capt. and Mrs. Douglas Rippy in Clemson Saturday and attend ed the Clemson University - Maryland game. Lisa Rippy re turned to her home with them af ter visiting her grandmother and uncle and aunt. BAPTIST GROUPS TO MEET Mrs. Alewine is the former Miss Cathy Barnes of Greenwood. PARTIES ENJOYED On Thursday evening Mrs. Flo Emery Wilson was honored with a party at the Lydia Community Building. After several appropriate games the group enjoyed de licious party refreshments served by the hostesses. Mrs. Wilson was presented a large number of gifts from his friends. Mrs. Timmy Sanders was hon ored on Saturday evening at the Community Building. Games appropriate tottie occa sion were directed by Mrs. Jimmy South. Party refreshments were served by the hostesses. Many nice gifts were present ed to Mrs. Sanders. BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES Mr. Buddy Dunnaway returned home Saturday after several weeks in Greenville General Hos pital. He will be confined at home for quite a while yet. Denise, Wanda and Debra Chil dress were Friday overnight guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Childress. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glenn in Greenville Friday also Mrs. Trammell’s brother-in-law, John Heath in the Greenville General Hospital. They then visited Mr. and Mrs. William Stone and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Trammell in Anderson. Debbie, Henry, Ronald and Andrea Stone returned home with their grand parents for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Terrell of Bowman, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. McPherson of Chester, T. G. Terrell of Buford, Ga., Mrs. No land Crickett ofCarnesville, Ga., and Mrs. O. H. She is teaching in Anderson School District No. 5. Ann Smith Is Dona Scholar At Berry College Ann Smith of Clinton has been named a Dana Scholar for 1969- 70 at Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga. Dana Scholars carry the re cognition of outstanding acheive- ment at the college and the a- wards are regarded as one of the highest honors bestowed on a Berry College student. She is one of 82 Berry Col lege students named for the ho nor. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mrs. J.R. Smith of 501 Ferguson St., Clinton.
