During his stay at Oki nawa, AIC Cochrane attended canine school in Tokoy, Japan. * * * Resuming their studies atNew- berry College this week are Danny and Bob Jones, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leaman Jones. Danny is a senior and Bob is a junior. Mrs. Mace Young, Sr. spent a lew days last week in Greenwood with her brothers and sisters- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Shannon and Mr. and Mrs. John Shannon. The John Andersons of Atlanta met Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Harri son at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fred Arve and Mr. Arve of Madison. They spent the Labor Day weekend there together. Mrs. J. F. Breuer of Route #2, Clinton, Bonds Cross Road Community, was christened at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church by Rev. Harry Fraser. Present at the christening were Mr. and Mrs. Breuer’s other son, Walter Jackson, and Mrs. Breuer’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Morgan of Bonds Cross Road. Mrs. Azilee Adair and her sis ters, Mrs. Gladys Allison, Mrs. John G. Wilson and Mrs. Mae Williams of Greenville spent Thursday with Mrs. Emmie Mc Mahan and Mrs. Bertie Spencer. Harriet Courtney, Sara Lynn Wysor’s Coker College suite mate, is here for a visit with the Wysors at their home on Cedar St. Harriet is from Johnston. Newcomers Meet At Parish House The Clinton Newcomers Club held their monthly meeting on Tuesday night, Aug. 18th at 8 p.m. at the Episcopal Parish House. Nineteen members, six prospective members and one out of town visitor were in at tendance. During the business meeting, preparations were made for the monthly party given for the child ren of cottage 26-A from Whit ten Village. The date of this af fair was changed from the first to the second Monday of Septem ber due to the Labor Day week end. Refreshments were then served by Mrs. Carl Venable, hostess for the month of Aug ust. Butler Jr., is spending a 20-day furlough with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Butler, Sr., from Camp Lejeune, N. C. Private Butler leaves Sept. 2 for Camp Pen dleton, Calif., and from there to Vietnam for du ty. Children's Classes Offered By PC Dept. The Art Department of Presbyterian College will offer art classes for children in the elementary grades beginning Thursday, Sept 11, according to Mrs. Alta Alberga, instructor in art at the college. Children in grades 1, 2, and 3 will meet from 3-3:45 p.m. and those in grades, 4, 5, and 6 will meet from 4-5 p.m. each Thursday. Mrs. Alberga pointed out that the goal of the children’s art classes will be to provide mean ingful experiences in art. She stressed that the cultivation of the child’s imagination, creative abilities, and sensitivity to color and form would be kept upper most in mind during the classes. Miss Gladys Lewis of Joanna, an advanced art student at Pres byterian College, will teach the classes under the supervision of Mrs. Alberga. Miss Lewis has studied with Mrs. Mary Anne Walker, who, until recently, was instructor in art at the college. One of Miss Lewis’s paintings won first place in the Fine Arts Festival in May at the College. Enrollment is open to all children in the community in grades one through six. Enroll ment will be limited to 15 child ren per class. A fee of $30 will be charged. Children will furnish their own materials. Those in terested in enrolling their child in either class may do so by writing Mrs. Alberga, Presby terian College in Clinton, or by calling the college, 833-2820, and leaving name and telephone num ber. Classes will be filled on a “first come-first served’ basis. Classes will be held in the art studio in Jacobs Hall, room 408. Mrs. Duvall carried on the service as usual at the Church of God of Prophecy on Sloan St. while her husband, the pastor there was attending the assembly. Cecilia Alexander celebrated her birthday Aug. 24. * * * Kiwanions Sell Pancake Supper Tickets Tonight Ervin Shook, sales manager for the Clinton Kiwanis Club Pancake Jamboree, states that Kiwanians will begin a house-to-house sales campaign tonight, Sept. 4. Club members will begin sell ing tickets for the pancake jam boree at 6:30 p.m. The pancake supper will be held September 26 and 27 at the Clin ton High School Cafeteria. Advance tickets are $1 for all you can eat. * * * Joycees Slate 'Band Battle' The Clinton Jaycees will spon sor a “Battle of the Bands’ Sept. 27. Anyone wishing to enter a young musical group in the contest is requested to contact Mike Horton at Piggly Wiggly. Each member of a participat ing group must be at least 13 years of age but not over 19. There is a $2 registration fee for each member of each par ticipating group. Burn side, 408 Elm Street, announce the adoption of a little son, Timo thy Sean on August 14. Timothy was five weeks old. The Burnsides have an adopted daughter, Kim berly Sue, four years of age. Rev. Bixler To Direct Latin Tour The Rev. Alfred L, Bixler, pas tor ofFirst Presbyterian Church, will direct a 30-day tour of South America, beginning Nov. 6. The group will leave from Miami, Fla., onNov. 6, and arrive back in Miami on Dec. 5. The tour will include stops in Belem, Sao Luiz, Recife, San Sal vador, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Igussu Falls, Asun cion, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Cuzco, and Panama. In addition to visiting the us ual cultural, historical, religious and industrial points of interest, the group will visit missiona ries and see the work they are doing. Rev. Bixler was born and rear ed in South America. One of the stops on the tour will be in the state of Baia where Rev. Bix ler was born. Anyone interested in making the trip should contact Rev. Bix ler. Marriage Course Offered In Joanna JOANNA - A course in'Mar riage, Family Life andTheHome for young married couples and young parents will begin this Sun day morning at the Joanna Ep- woth Methodist Church. It will be taught by the pastor, J. Le- land Rinehart at the Educational Building. The time will be from 10 a.m. until 10:35 a.m. and it will take two months for all the les sons. Couples outside of the church are also welcomed. Many subjects will be discussed includ ing attitude of the T. V. pro grams, how to vaccinate against devorce, how to answer your childrens frank questions, etc. You won’t want to miss a single lesson, so plan now to attend. Legionnaires Enjoy Supper Members of the American Le gion Auxiliary and their husbands were guest for a chicken and fifth supper Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Chap man on Lake Greenwood. Dinner was served buffet style from the long bar in the kitchen dining room. Tables were setup in the dining room and on the long porch. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Julian White, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Brice of Greenwood, Sheriff and Mrs. Gene Johnson of Laurens.
