I Women's World Miss Williams Marries Rowland Wade Milam Miss Carol Ann Williams of Klngstree and Mr. Rowland Wade Milam of Columbia were married in the Kingstree Methodist Church at 7:30 o’clock on Sat urday, Aug. 30. The double-ring candlelight ceremony was per formed by Rev. E. King Scog gins. The music was furnished by Mrs. Glenn Williams, or ganist, and Mrs. Dan Gee, so loist. The wedding was under the direction of Miss Zelene Epps. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orion Williams, Jr. of Kingstree. Mr. Milam is the son of Mrs. Henry Wade Mi lam of Mountville and the late Mr. Milam. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a formal gown of silk peae and Alencon lace designed with an empire bodice and a high neckline. The dress was enhanced with long sleeves of lace revealing wide caffs and silk peau buttons. Her floor-length cathedralmantiliaof illusion was bordered with Alen con lace. She carried a lace covered Bible and a white pur ple -throated orchid. Miss Linda Kay Williams, sis ter of the bride, of Kingstree was her maid-of-honor. Bridal at tendants were Mrs. Connor Brown, Miss Mary Jane Moore, cousins of the bride, both of Kingstree; Miss Connie Dale Hair of Barnwell; Miss Harriette Mi lam, sister of the bridegroom, Mrs. Frank Moses, cousin of the bridegroom, both of Mount- vtlle; Miss Harriett Moore, Miss Nancy Nixon both of Starr; and Miss Suzanne Redmond ofCayce. They wore floor-length gowns of moss green brocade and maize crepe fashioned with an empire bodice and sheath skirt high lighted with a back panel of bro cade. Their headpieces were made of satin flowers attached to French illusion. They car ried a bouquet of yellow daisy nosegays. Marie Sanders Williams, sis ter of the bride, was flower girl. Ringbearer was Ralph Young, HI, cousin of the bride, of Columbia. Mr. Frankes Moses of Mount ville was best man. Usher- groomsmen were Mr. David Orion Williams, brother of the bride, of Kingstree; Mr. Gary Madden of Greenville; Mr. Wil liam Jacks, Jr., Mr. Lloyd Byers, Jr., cousin of the bridegroom, both of Mountville; Mr. FredS. Bishop, Jr., Mr. Glenn George of Columbia; Mr. Richard Byars, and Mr. John A. Thompson, III both of Columbia. The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orion Williams of Kingstree and Mrs. Earl Han cock of Wouthport, N. C. and the late Mr. Walter E. Moore. Grand parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Milam of Mountville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rowland. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the Kings tree Moose Lodge. After the reception the couple left for a wedding trip, and upon their return will live at Hendley Homes in Columbia. Prior to the wedding the bri dal luncheon was given at the King's Tree Inn by Mrs. Jimmy Connor, Mrs. Tommy Blakely, and Mrs. Jack McConnell. The rehearsal dinner was held at the Kingstree Moose Lodge by the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. Henry Wade Milam, also Mrs. J. C. Bolt and Mrs. William A. Robinson. Milam Jr. Hostesses for the 16 guests at the home of Mrs. Gus Byrd were the bride’s aunts, Mrs. Jack Vandiver of Athens, Ga. andMrs. Joe W. Everett of Rock Hill. White gladioli and carnations centered the buffet table. Ar rangements of white chrysanthe mums and smilax in crystal con tainers decorated the individual tables. A yellow chrysanthemum cor sage was a gift to Miss Cowan. She presented silver engraved fingernail files to her attend ants. SUPPER On Aug. 16 the bridal pair was complimented with a picnic supper for 10 couples. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Poston were co-hostesses with the George Ballentines at their home in Henrietta Heights. A card table was a gift to Miss Cowan and Mr. Milam. Rehearsal Dinner For Bridal Pan- Miss CatherineCowan and Wil liam C. Milam Jr., who were married here Saturday night, were entertained with a rehear sal dinner on Friday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Schnei der in Ninety Six. Bap tist Church, Charleston. Rev. A. Larry Bray of Charleston per formed the 7 o’clock ceremony. A reception was given in the social hall of the church. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Edward Brodie Friday, Jr. and the late Mr. Friday of 15-A Glebe Street, Charleston. For her wedding she chose a formal gown of peau de soie, in A-line design with an overlay of English tulle which was bordered in peau de soie and appliqued in Alencon lace. It flowed into a short train. She wore a fingertip veil man tilla of English tulle, appliqued in Alencon lace. Honor attendants were sisters of the bride, Mrs. Edward L. Ful- ler, HI of Perry, New York, and Miss June Friday of Columbia. Bridesmaids Misses Sara and Elizabeth Hiers of Clinton, sis ters of the groom; Mrs. John R. Purdy of Charleston and Miss Donna Heath of Falls Church, Virginia. The bride’s attendants wore formal length gowns. The short sleeved empire bodice of A- procot French crepe topped an A-line skirt of white crepe, and was banded with apricot colored daisies. A sash of apricot crepe fell from abowatthehighwaisted back. Headpieces were of apricot colored n$t on a banded tiera. The bridal attendants carried bouquets of purple astors with a cascade of purple streamers. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion C. Hiers, Sr. 103 South Woodrow Drive, Clin ton. Mr. William C. Stewart of Wayne, Pennsylvania served as best man. Ushers were Mr. Ro bert E. Hiers, brother of the gloom of Clinton; Mr. LeamanD. Jones Jr. cousin of the groom, of Clinton; Mr. Clare D. Hodge, Jr. of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania Mr. Thomas D. Rogers Jr. of Columbia and Mr. Darrell Faul kner of Greenwood. Music was provided by Mrs. Harry A. Hugley Jr. of Charles ton organist and Mr. John David Stoudemire of Charleston, solo ist. Mr. Hiers attended the Univer sity of South Carolina and is pre sently employed by Clinton Mills. He plans to enter the service this flail. Mrs. Hiers is a senior at the University of South Carolina School of Nursing. She was employed by the Medical Univer sity Hospital in Charleston. The couple will reside at 401S. Broad Street, Clinton. The bridal bouquet was white chrysanthemums and stephanotis centered with a white orchid. She was escorted by her brother-in- law, Mr. Edward L. Nighta Garden Club Meeting Set The Good Neighbors Garden Club of Union, with Mrs. Everette Hughes as hostess chairman along with Mrs. Ray Kirby of Gaffbey, serving as District Director of the East Piedmont District Garden Clubs has ex tended invitation to all Garden Club members in the East Pied mont District to attend the Fall Meeting on Wednesday Sept 10 in the United Grace Methodist Church, 201 South Church Street, Union. A delightful 9:30 coffee hour with registration has been planned by the hostess club with the gen eral meeting opening at 10:30. Coke Cutting Following the rehearsal on Friday evening, the Smith-Gantt wedding party was honored with a cake cutting in the Fellowship Hall of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Approxi mately 60 guests were greeted at the door by Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Plaxico. An arrangement of fall flowers centered the table which was overlaid with a white eyelet cloth. It was flanked by two candela bra. The focal point was the four tiered wedding cake, which was decorated with yellow and green roses. After the bride and groom cut the first slices, Mrs. Gus Blake ly and Mrs. Furman Thomason served the cake to the other guests. Guests then help them selves to the other party dain ties of toasted nuts and mints. Mrs. George W. Copeland served punch. Assisting in serving were Miss Theresa Lawson, Miss Marolyn Montgomery and Miss Anne Ar- rowood, all of Winthrop College. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Lancaster were at the door to bid goodbye. Rehearsal Dinner The Smith-Gantt weddingparty was entertained Friday evening with a rehearsal dinner at the Wilson Home. Host and hostess for the occa sion were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Wells of Laurlnburg, N. C., bro ther-in-law and sister of the bride. After the guests had arrived, the hosts presented the bride with a corsage of shasta daisies and the groom was presented a boutonlere by the hostess. The honorees then introduced their families and friends to the guests. After toast were made, guests were invited Into the din ing room, where a delightful buf fet supper was served. The wedding party was seated at a table highlighted by an ar rangement of white shasta dais ies and white glads. C., September 4, 1969 Smith-Gantt Vows Spoken Saturday The Associate Reformed Pres byterian Church, Clinton was the setting for the wedding of Miss Laura Elizabeth and Robert Wade Gantt Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Zeb Williams officiated. The bride a senior business administration major at Winthrop College, is employed by the S.C. Tax Commission in Columbia. She is the daughter of Mrs. Hor ace Carlton Smith of 411E. Flori da St. and the late Mr. Smith. The groom is a senior major ing in business administration at the University of South Carolina. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hampton Gantt of 559 Fleet St. in Rock Hill. Mrs. George R. Wells of Lau- rinburg, N. C., sister of the bride was matron of honor. Miss Theresa Ann Lawson of Buffalo was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Carolyn Marie Mont gomery and Miss Marolyn Eli zabeth Montgomery of Lancaster; Mrs. James G. Given in marriage by her bro ther, Horace Carlton Smith, Jr. The bride chose a full length silk organza gown. The high neck line of the Empire bodice was trimmed with venise lace. A satin bow and sash accented the waist line. Long sleeves were cuffed in lace and daisy lace edged the detachable train and formed ver tical panels on the A-line skirt. Her headdress of Venise lace flowers in a forward design se cured the four tiered veil of silk illusion. Bridal attendants wore full- length gowns of yellow silk or ganza with A-line skirts, scoop necklines and Empire waistlines underscored with satin bands. Veil of illusion was attached to their matching pillbox hats. The couple will live at Hend- ly Homes in Columbia after Sept. Miss Kathy Davenport, Mr. Mabry Wed Sunday TO BREAK THE HABIT OF NAIL-BITING-- Rub the nails along a bar of soap and then rinse them. Splllars officiated at the marriage of Miss Kathy Lou Davenport to Charles Cason Ma bry Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cal vary Baptist Church, Clinton. Mrs. Mabry Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cecil Davenport of 102 Frances St who gave a reception at the church. Bridal attendants included Mrs. Michael Cannon, matron of honor, sister of the bride; Miss Phyllis Shealy, maid of honor, of Greenville, niece of the bride; bridesmaids, Miss Debbie Bag- well, Miss Martha King and Mrs. Truman Owens, sister of the bride. The bride’s full length Empire dress of satin and Chantilly lace was made with lace medallion in sertions at the scooped neckline. The lace sleeves were long. The Watteau train was attached be neath a bow at the back waist line. A purple throated orchid topped her white bride’s Bible, a gift of her parents. Honor attendants appeared in full-length pale blue crepe dresses having scooped neck lines, short sleeves and high waists. A bow with streamers trimmed the backs. Bridesmaid’s dresses were similar in pink. Mr. Mabry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mabry of 501 N. Adair St. His father was his best man. Ushers were Barry Boyce of Inman, nephew of the bride; John ny Mabry, brother of the groom, A1 Webb, andJimmyKinard. Jun ior ushers were Darrell Shealy and Larry Owens, nephews of the bride. Musicians were organist, Mrs. Robert Boyce, sister of the bride, of Inman and Miss Claire Duncan, soloist Mr. and Mrs. Mabry are both Clinton High School graduates. She was employed by the E. L. Mansure Co. They will make their home at Virginia Beach, Va. where he serves in the Navy.
