Ty son, native of Sheridan, Ark., joined Clinton Mills in 1956. Tyson, a PC graduate, has been with Clinton Mills since 1957. Cronic Named Clinton Mills Training Director Henry T. Chronic has been named Training Director atClin- ton Mills. “Hank" is a native of Monroe, Ga. After graduating from Mon roe High School in 1940, he was Warehouse Foreman for the Sea board Railroad for three years. He entered the Air Force in 1943. While in service, he earned approximately 100 semester hours credits from the University of Maryland, the University of Alabama, and the N. C. State Division of Continuing Education. Chronic was commanding of ficer of 1,100 recruit training battalion at his retirement in 1967. Prior to joining Clinton Mills, he was General Manager of W. G. King Construction Company. Rev. Croft Is Assigned To Leesville HENRY CRONIC Seat belts can be sponged off with soap and water, if they be come soiled, the South Carolina Highway Department says during Family Seat Belt Month. C., September 4, 1969—1-C Ex-Missionary Heads V Local Literacy Workshop At the South Carolina Annual Conference of the Southern Met hodist Church in Orangeburg, Rev. Phillip G. Croft, a native of Bamberg, was assigned to the Leesville Church near here. The Rev. C. E. Baker was transferred to the Mid-South Conference and will be assigned to a Church at Birmingham, Ala. The delegates to the Con ference from the Leesville Church were C. Bryan Holland, and Phillip W. Rogers. The Woman’s Missionary So ciety of LeesvilleSouthernMeth odist Church entertained the members of the church at an ice cream supper Sunday night, August, 31 at the church. The pas tor and his wife, Rev. and Mrs. Charles E. Baker, who are leaving to make their home in Alabama, were presented a sil ver pitcher by the Missionary Society and a silver tray by the young people of theEpworth Lea gue. A former missionary to Li beria will serve as literacy tutor trainer in the “Each One Teach One' workshop planned for Sept. 12 and 13 at St.John’s Lutheran Church. Mrs. Norma Brookhart, who along with evangelist Billy Graham is a member of the Whea ton College, Wheaton, 111., alumnae, will show local volun teers how to help functional ill- Luther Leaguers Attend Rally Luther Leaguers of St. John’s Lutheran Church here in Clin ton will join with approximately 2,000 other Lutheran youth from South Carolina in a mass rally in Columbia this Sunday after noon. The youth rally for Lutheran youth has been an annual affair, but this year the location has shifted from Newberry Col lege to Columbia to make use of the many facilities available there. These 2,000 youth will meet in the afternoon at various Lutheran Churches in Columbia for the ex perience of contemporary litur gical worship. After these ser vices they will move in small groups to formatSesqui-Centen- nial State Park for picnic supper and a drama in tlie Liberty Tree Theater, “Sure as You’re Born," performed by a Luther League group from Columbia. As part of this year’s rally, the members of the newly formed Youth Minis try Committee and the Youth Min istry Councils of the SuuthCaro- lina Synod will tie introduced to the youth. East, director of adult education for the state of South Carolina, has said that each coun ty should have volunteers as tutors skilled in the “Each One Teach One' method to comple ment the work of professional adult educators. Mrs. Brookhart served for 18 years as an educational miss ionary in Liberia under the Board of Foreign Missions of the United Lutheran Church. In 1947 Mrs. Brookhart became literacy di rector for Liberia, serving on loan from the mission board in a program for the Liberian govern ment and for other denomina tional mission boards. The Liberian government hon ored her in 1954 for her “out standing service to the people of Liberia" by granting her the title of Knight Commander in the Hu mane Order of African Redemp tion. Now employed full time as a literacy worker by the Lutheran Church Women, she served ear lier as a lecturer at Fuller Semi nary.
