DEAR SALLY: I hope you can
come up with a solution to the
little problem I find myself en
tangled in. I’m a young man of 23,
and a little over a year ago I
was engaged to a certain girl,
and we split up. Two months ago
I became engaged to another girl.
Today I ran into the first girl on
the street and we dropped in at
a sn^qfc sfcpp for some coffee and
convec&atipn. I found out she is
engaged again too, to another guy.
But now she and I have dis
covered through this meeting that
we’re both still very much in
love with each other, sorry about
the misunderstanding that broke
us up, and very much desirous
of resuming our former rela
tionship. How do we go about
straightening out this mess we’re
in, especially with the two per
sons we’re now engaged to?
ARIZONA.
DEAR ARIZONA: From all
indications, neither of you is ma
ture enough to appreciate the im
portance of an engagement pro
mise and its vow of “eternal de
votion.’ My suggestion is that you
both break your present engage
ments immediately and REMAIN
“unengaged” until you both grow
up.
DEAR SALLY: I’m a girl of
19 and have been dating a very nice
boy of 20. What is bothering me
now is his recently-formed habit
of driving somewhere at the end of
our dates to park and pet. I
don’t go for wholesale petting like
this, but am afraid that if I were
to refuse I would risk losing this
boy. Please advise me. PENNY.
DEAR PENNY: If holding onto
this fellow depends upon your
willingness to park and pet, the
relationship isn’t worth anything
at all. I assure you that, if this
is a worthwhile boy and if he
really cares for you, he will ad
mire and respect you if you show

already expecting a house guest
of your own for the very evening
that another friend invites you to
his or her home for a party,
is it all right to take your own

not! And neither do you phone
your host or hostess and ask
permission to bring your friend
with you. When the invitation is
extended to you, you say, Tm
sorry, but I have already invit
ed a friend to my home for that
evening. Otherwise, I would love
to come.” Then it’s up to the host
or hostess to handle as be or
she wishes. They may suggest
that you bring your friend along—
but if they don’t, that’s all right,
too.
DEAR SALLY: My fiance and I
are heartbroken, a friend has
told us that, because of the "pe
culiar* difference in our blood
types any child that we might
have would not live. This is a
shattering blow to us, and we don’t
know what to do. Will you please
advise us? HEARTSICK.
DEAR HEARTSICK: Consult a
doctor about this, and let him
give you the facts instead of what
"friends*say. I don’t know just
what your blood types are, but
I do know that medical science
today deals happily and success
fully with all sorts of problems
like yours.

How many erring sons and
daughters have been saved by a
mother’s prayers? Eternity alone
will tell. We can thank God for
the old-fashioned praying mo
ther, who daily brought her child
ren before the throne of grace.
She was always busy. Without the
conveniences which lighten the
work of the home, the modern wo
man would say that she was ter
ribly chained down. But she found
time for daily prayer for her
children. When they left home her
prayers followed them. Many a
boy leaving home to enter the
armed services has been held up
in his mother’sprayers,although
far across the seas.
As Christians, if we believe
that those who die in Christ live
with Him in a fuller life beyond,
then we can believe that those
mothers are praying no less for
their children over there than
they did here.
It is a never ending source of
comfort to me to feel that my mo
ther’s prayers still follow me
from that other land where she
is in the more immediate pre
sence if our Lord.
Some of you who read this may
not be in the way that your mo
ther wished you to be. Your life
may not lie cast in the pattern
which she planned for you. Don’t
you feel a strange tug at your
heart sometimes, telling you that
you should live a better life?
Probably it is your mother’s
prayers. You will have a hard
time escaping them.
and power in these quaint old
lines by an unknown author:
ARE A LI. THE CHILDREN IN?
“I think oftimes as the night
draws nigh of an old house on the
hill, of a yard all wide and blos
som-starred where the children
played at will. Ahd when the night
at last came down, hushing the
merry din, mother would look a-
round and ask, ‘Are all the child
ren in?’
“ This many and many a year
since then, and the old house
on the hill no longer echoes to
childish feet, and the yard is still,
so still. But I see it all, as the
shadow's creep, and though many
the year have been since then, I
can hear mother ask, ‘Are all
the children in?’
“I wonder if when the shadows
fall on the last short, earthly
day, when we say good-bye to
the world outside, all tired with
our childish play, when we step
out into that Other Land where
mother so long has been, will we
hear her ask, just as of old,
‘Are all the children in?’
