C.* August 14, 1969 Joanna Youth Found In Georgia A 14-year-old Joanna boy, who had been missing from his home for six weeks, was returned home last week after being located in Georgia. Carl Junior Summer was the object of a three-day search in Sumter National Forest after he was reported missing from his home on June 24. Laurens County SheriffEugene Johnson said the youth had worked at the State Farmers’ Market in Atlanta June 27 - Aug. 1. John son said the boys’ employer, who operates a poultry farm at Ila, Ga., called the sheriff after read ing a description of the missing youth. Kiwanions Plan Pancake Jamboree A sales planning session will be featured at this week’s Clinton Kiwanis Club meeting at Mary Musgrove Hotel. Kiwanians will make plans for the Pancake Jamboree it will sponsor Sept. 26 at Clinton High School. The Pancake Jamboree will be held in conjunction with the Clinton-Chester football game. Thursday night’s meeting be gins at 7 p.m. * * * PC Graduate Awarded Medal Col. William V. Church, a graduate of Presbyterian Col lege, was presented the U. S. Joint Service Commendation Me dal during special ceremonies this week at Furman University. Church, professor of military science at Furman, was honored for meritorious service while on a 15-month tour f duty with the Chinese Nationalist Army on Tai wan during 1967-68. * * * 4-H Electric Congress Held In Florence The annual 4-H Electric Con gress was held in Florence Au gust 4 and 5. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Elec tric Congress. The hosts of this annual event were Duke Power Co., S.C. Electric and Gas Co., and Carolina Light and Power Co- pany. The 4-H Electric Project win ners in Laurens County were Ann Simmons of the Camak 4-H Club, Bruce Simpson and Allen Finley of the Cross Hill-Mountville Sr. 4-H Club. Allen attended because of his work in recruiting new members to the electric club. The theme for this year's Ele ctric Congress was Hawaiian. E- verything was tropically deco rated to resemble the islands. Many activities were planned, included in these were a tour to WBTV T.V. Station, Darlington Speedway Museum and a Nuclear Power Plant. On Monday night to set the Hawaiian scene there was a luau and costume contest. Many colorful shirts and grass skirts were seen at the event.
