LAURENS COUNTY HONORED—It will be ‘Lau rens County Night’ Saturday, Aug. 9, at the per formance of The Liberty Tree’ at Sesqui-Centen- nial State Park on U.S. Highway 1 near Columbia. In scene above, President John Rutledge of the South Carolina Colony informs people of Charles Town that the colonial assembly has declared itself a legislature. Special ticket prices for Laurens County residents on Saturday night will be $2 for adults and $1.00 for children. Ticket information can be obtained at the Clinton Chamber of Com merce. ADAMS Program Set For County Night At 'Liberty Tree' Saturday night, August 9, is “Laurens County Night" at “The Liberty Tree”, SesquiCentennial State Park, Columbia. The salute to Laurens County will begin at 8:15 p.m. Giving the invocation will be Rev. J. H. Darr, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Representative DavidS. Taylor will be the speaker. Special recognition will lie given the mayors of the county, members of the Laurens County- delegation, representatives ‘ >f the Chamber of Commerce ofClinton and Laurens and groups from Thornwell and Whitten Village. Tickets at the special “ Laurens County Night" of $2 for adults and $1 for children must tie pur chased locally. Mrs. Marie Bannister is spending this week at the l>each. Mr. and Mrs. Roily Bannister Jr. and children of Raleigh, N. C. will join her. Mr. Fuller Motes and Tommie spent Sunday with Phil Motes at the Baptist College in Charles ton. Mrs. Olga Larnmore and Mrs. Ned Chittendon agd her family of Pinella’s Park, Fla., are visit ing Mr. and Mrs. John Simmons at Lake Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Benjamin and Mrs. Doris Benjamin and family attended the Benjamin Re union at Beaverdam Sunday. Mrs. Anna Bobo of Greenwood spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lynch. Mrs. Bobo and Mrs. Lynch attended homecoming at Padgett Creek Church in Union County Sunday. Miss Ann Padgett of Spartanburg returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Thomason and Jamie Scott visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Johnson in Atlanta, Ga. last weekend. Gospel Singing The Joanna Church of God of Prophecy will have a Gospel Singing on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Harley Ford, Roy Messer and other groups will perform. The public is invited. Miss Thornton Wins Scholarship Miss Carol Obera Thornton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thornton and a recent grad uate of Hillcrest High in Fountain Inn, has been awarded a scho larship from the Dyson Founda tion. She will enter Emmanuel Junior College at Franklin Springs, Ga., this fall where she will major in music. Carol is a former resident of Clinton, and was a student at Clinton High t>ef >re moving to F >untain Inn. She is the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Barker of Clinton. Weekend Revival The Joanna Assembly of God Church announces a special weekend services Sunday, August 10. At the 11 o’clock service the Rev. Lowell Haynes of Linwood. North Carolina will be showing slides of a recent trip to the Holy Land. In the evening service the Rev. Ben J. Jones a former pastor of the church, will be preaching.
