MOON £7^“^“ ENTERTAINS SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS The Kindergarten class of the Friendship AME Church enjoyed a recent outing at the home of their teacher, Mrs. Rubye M. Grant on South Bell Street. After games Mrs. Joyce B. Payne assisted the host in serv ing ice cream and cookies. Enjoying the affair were other neighborhood children and Miss Renee Washington ofWashington, D. C., who is visiting in the city. SUBER - ADAMS REUNION Approximately 150 members of the Suber - Adams families gath ered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. The program that was held prior to the five-course dinner was served on the spacious lawn and was presided over by Mrs. Ola Adams Richardson. Mrs. Zena Adams Wilson led the sing ing and Mrs. Fannie Adams Suber offered prayer. Mrs. Lillie Suber Greer made comments and led the grot*) in singing “HappyBirth day" to Leonard Suber Sr. who observed a birthday on that day. Descendants of the Suber- Adams family were present from Clinton, Mountville, Laurens and Baltimore, Md. TUMBLING SHOALS The 31 member church repre sentatives met in their 90th An nual Session at ML Zion No. 1, Laurens, S. C., Rev. B. T. Sears pastor on July 23-25. The convention theme ^Chris tian Education and the Challenge of Change* was discussed by Mrs. Mary W. Lawson. Mrs. Lawson is a native of Laurens County, a graduate of Benedict College and Howard University. Mrs. Lawson unfolded all phases of change as they exist today- even to the moon landing. President G. Q. Neely’s annual address “Challenge of Christian Service" was very inspirational. Others appearing on the pro gram with sermons or informa tional folks were Moderator Rev. E. W. Wright, Rev. S. N. Madden, Dr. J. T. W. Mims, Rev. Douglas McCoy and Rev. R. C. Wilson. All officers were re-elected. The next session will be held at White Plain Baptist Church, Lau rens. J. C. VOTER REGISTRATION The Laurens County Citizen Improvement Organization is conducting a drive to get all un registered citizens registered. Saturday, August 2, the center will be at Smith Cleaners. This is the last date for the Clinton area. After this date persons de siring to register must go to Lau rens. Other centers and dates are: Wednesday July 30, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Princeton, S. Douglas McCoy is director of registra tion. SENIOR CHOIR The Senior Choir at Hebron Baptist Church rendered music at Galilee Baptist Church Union County on Sunday. Rev. J. C. Cas que of Spartanburg, S. C. was the guest speaker. Accompaning the choir were Deacons Richard Rice and M. L. Blakely, Mrs. Mary B. Rice is choir organist and Rev. W. D. Coker is the pastor of the churches. GUEST SPEAKER Revival services began at Bea ver Dam Baptist Church, New berry County on Sunday morn ing. After Sunday School and the morning sermon by the pastor, the guest minister for the even ing was Rev. Peter MoonSr. Mrs. Mamie Moore is church sec retary and Rev. Freddie Wicker is minister-in-charge. A boun tiful picnic dinner was served. PRUITT REUNION The Pruitt family held their family reunion on July 19 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Richardson. The family members enjoyed reminscing over the past and a plenteous dinner in the family dining room. Relatives attended from New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, D. C. CONGRESS CONVENES The NewEnoree BaptistChris- tian Educational Training Con gress was held at St John Bap tist Church, Newberry, on July 24-26. Turner president and vice-president, presided over the session. During the class period six courses were taught Sermons were delivered by Rev. J. C. Copeland and Rev. A. A. Aber nathy. The keynote address was delivered by Rev. Alonzo W. Hol man who used as a subject “Bridging the Gap." The Bible Quiz Contest was won by Sherita G. Moon of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. All officers were re-elected. The 1970 session will be held at St Matthew Baptist Church, Newberry, S. C. VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. Handy Coleman and Mr. Glover M. Hickson of Aiken, were Sunday breakfast guests of Mr. and Mrs. McQuilla Hudson on Centenial Street. After breakfast, the host and their guests worshipped at He bron Baptist Church. They en joyed the morning message by the pastor, Rev. W. D. Coker and tel- lowshipped with many friends. After a tour of Clinton they enjoyed a three-course dinner at the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bluford. NURSING HOME The Cornelia Blakely Home on North Bell Street was the set ting for the final visit as an or ganized group from the Sunshine Club. The club used monthly visits to the home as a project for their club. On Saturday the host group consisting of Mes- dames Azalee Williams, Helen Crawford, Maggie Craig, Helen Bobo Emma L. Long and Miss Willie R. Long entertained the 13 residential patients. After a social hour durlnf which a salad plate was enjoyed^ Rev. Peter Moon Sr. conducted a devotion and showed home movies. Patients expressed their enjoyment in many ways. The group left an all-occasion card holder as a favor from this group. Mrs. Lenora Fleming is president of this Hebron Baptist Church affliated club. FAMILY COOKOUT A cookout on Saturday was en joyed by family and friends at the home of Mrs. Alice Pitts in Mountville. About 20 persons came and played games and enjoyed many delicious refreshments around a huge barbecue grill. The highlight of the meal was the home-made ice cream. Family members attended from Philadelphia, Mountville, Clinton, Laurens and Cross Hill. Mrs. Pitts children from in and out of state were hostesses. Sgt and Mrs. Haskell Wax and children Bessie, Rochelle, and Nadine of Ft. Bragg, N.C., spent a recent weekend in the city with the Mason and Wilson families. Mr. and Mrs. Mortekiah Taylor of Clearwater, Fla., are In the city with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fleming after a vacation in Wash ington, D. C. Mrs. Taylor is the sister of Mrs. Fleming. Mrs. Sula M. Thomas and •Thildren of Camden, N.J., Mrs. > atrlcla M. Anderson and child- en of Ft Bennlng, Ga., and Ray- rnond Miller of Philadelphia, Penn., are visiting their mother, Mrs. Sula Miller. Mrs. Pearl Rice is in Wash ington, D. C. visiting her sister Mrs. Ellen D. Covington. Carl Drakeford entered Self Memorial Hospital on Thursday. We are wishing him an early re covery. Terry Johnson of Camden, N. J. Is spending the remainder of the summer with his grand mother, Mrs. Sula Miller. PFC Jerome Fleming who has been stationed at Camp Lejune, N. C. spent some time with his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Fleming and other fkmily members. At the end of the leave, he will report to camp in San Die go, Calif. Mrs. Lillian P. Brown and other family members recently visited her son Pvt. Edward L. Brown at Ft. Jackson, S. C. Mrs. Estelle Williams of Jo anna, spent the past weekend with her sister, Mrs. Emma Meadors in Columbia, S. C. Miss Shehenla Longof Fayetts- ville, N.C. is spending some time with her aunt, Mrs. Mary Robin son and other relatives. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rice are their nieces and nephews Hughle Jr. Regina, and Roseweld Davis; Cassandra, Stephania and Dell Bell and Veronica Smith all of Charlotte, N. C. They are the children and grandchildren of Mrs. Mattie Davis and the late Hughle Davis Sr. Ernest Rice of Brooklyn, N.Y., has returned to that city after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rice. Miss Roslyn Goode who is spending the summer in Detroit, Michigan went to New York City on the past weekend to attend the annual dance of Johnson C. Smith University students and alumnus. Miss Goode Is a 1969 graduate of the university. Donell White of Miami, Fla., is spending the summer with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Harley on Airport Road. Miss Jessie Pyles is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. We are hoping for her a speedy re covery. Major and Mrs. Robert Hunter Jr. and son Randy of Columbus, Ga., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunter Sr. and other relatives. Major Hunter returned from overseas duty the first of the summer. Dr. and Mrs. Walter J. Mc- tfath Sr. visited their son and family in Darlington County re cently. They went especially to see their first grandchild, Ange la, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. McMath Jr. Miss Della Dials who has re sided In Charlotte, N. C. Is now making her home with the Walter Fowler family In Mountville. Thomas Rogers recently re turned to his home In New York City after visiting relatives. His mother is the former Miss Willie B. Blakely. Sp4 Nathaniel Robinson Jr. Is spending a 20 day furlough with his family. He will report to Ft Hood, Texas after previously being stationed at Ft Sill, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Willie L. Will iams and family have moved into their spacious new home on the Whitmire Highway. Mrs. Jessie Long ofFayetts- ville, N.C. is visiting her mother, Mrs. Emma Ferguson and other family members. CW-2 and Mrs. James W. Suber and daughter, Trade have re turned from a visit with relatives in Toledo, Ohio and Wilmington, Delaware. During the trip they toured many points of Interest in sev eral states. The family will leave soon for Ft Walters, Texas where he will be stationed. CW- 2 Suber, a helicopter pilot will be an instructor. Miss Elizabeth Bell is spending the summer with her grand mother, Mrs. Lizzie Bell and other family members in Clinton and Joanna. She is an instructor at Allen University, Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Adams and son, Cy of Baltimore, Md., were In the city on the past weekend. They came at attend the Suber - Adams family reunion. While here, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Richardson Sr. in Laurens. Mrs. Amanda Gary visited her sister and family Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bridwell in Henderson- ville, N. C. They all left Ashe ville Airport for Washington, D. C. to attend the Pruitt reunion. Mrs. Gary and Mrs. Bridwell are sisters. While visiting the capital city they were dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Lorick. Mrs. Gary has returned to her home on Gideon Hill. burg spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. johnny Pinson in Mount ville. She came to attend the 100 Anniversary of Piedmont United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ladelle S. Adams spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Olivia Salters in Columbia. All of these services will be held August 3-8. Week day services will begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to worship. Miss Latimer Named Outstanding Cornelia Latimer, a member of Sanders Elementary Junior 4-H Club, was selected as the most outstanding club member for the month. During the school year she was a honor student from the sixth grade and took an active part in all school activities. Al though a first year member in the 4-H Club, she contributed many new ideas in the promotion of her club work. Cornelia was elected secretary of her club. She carried foods and nutrition and clothing, for first year members, as her club projects. She states her hobbies are working with people and read ing. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erskin Latimer of Route 3, Laurens. Mrs. C. E. Bailey is the school 4-H Club leader. Paul Streetman Is In Vietnam » Hospital Corpsman First Class Paul K. Streetman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt 1L Street- man of Reeder SL, Jo«ma, and husband of the furmerfflss Clara J. Attaway of 4022 Ponderosa Drive, Gulfport, Miss., Is serv ing in Vietnam with Naval Mo bile Construction Battalion (MCB) 133. The battalion’s base camp is at Camp Wilkinson six miles south west of Hue, ancient imperial city of Vietnam. On its third Vietnam tour since being recommissioned in 1966, the Seabee battalion will engage in hunreds of construction pro jects to support U.S. and Allied combat operations throughout the five northernmost provinces of Mrs. Bannah Grant ofSpartan- the republic. Shirley and Edwin Fleming will accompany their aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Moteklah Taylor on their return to Clearwater, Fla., for a several week stay. Fletcher Pruitt Sr. has re turned home after a stay in Veterans Hospital, Columbia. klrs.
