THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C., July 17, 1969—3-A About People You Know St " Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dobbins spent the weekend in Kinston, N.C. with Mr. and Mrs. Michael Surles and son, Mark. Captian Thomas Thompson was promoted to that rank from the rank of Lieutenant at Fort Mc Pherson, Ga. 3rd. Army Head quarters on June 15. He is mar ried to the former Ellen Law- son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Lawson of Joanna. Mrs. Frank Simpson visited her son Bobby Lee Medlock at Norfolk, Va. on Friday and Sat urday, returning on Sunday. He sailed on the USS Wood for duty in Guantonemo, Cuba. She was ac companied by Mrs. Floyd Scott and daughter, Dianne of Green wood. Mrs. Frank J. Wyman and little son, Jimmie of Columbia have been the guests of her mother and sister, Mrs. James M. Dick and Miss Lana Cope land Dick. They spent the week end in the mountains going es pecially to visit Miss Elizabeth Wyman, a camper at Windy Wood on Lake Summit. They attend the festivities at the end of the first camp session. Elizabeth will re main through the second session. Mrs. Vernon Trammell and Mrs. J. A. Orr is attending a church kindergarten workshop July 14-17 at North Greenville Junior College. Mrs. C. T. Thomason has re turned home after several weeks stay at Greenville General Hospi tal. Friends will be interested to know that although she is still very weak she is improving nice ly. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Leonard have returned from a week’s va cation at White Lake, N. C. * * * Mrs. J. Roy Casque and Miss Celia Casque will return Sunday from a three week tour of Eu rope. Visiting Mr. Casque at Lake Greenwood have been Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Dennis of Newberry and Mrs. Glazer Harvey of Cross. Mrs. Pat Fryfogle of Merry Oakes left Wednesday for New York after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fryfogle for a few days. She will fly to Lisbon for a three weeks tour of Europe. Miss Margaret Blakely is go ing to the Sirine Hospital in Greenville on July 16 for eye surgery, to be performed onJuly 17. Mrs. Marvin Poole has as her guests for a few days recently, her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Brock and their son, Jimmy of Statesville, N.C. Mrs. Poole’s sister, Mrs. G. K. Sum- erel of Westminister was also a recent guests for a few days visit. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mullis of Myrtle Beach; Mr. and Mrs. Jack York and son, Ricky of Cincinatti, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Robert York of Birmingham, Ala.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wea ver and son, David of Birming ham, Ala.; Mr. and Mrs. James Stark and children of Jackson ville, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Burdette, Sr. f Charles ton; Mrs. Kenneth Burdette, Jr. and son, Luther, of Charleston; Barrow Mullis of Philadelphia and Myrtle Beach all visited Mrs. Hubert Pitts and Mrs. Buell Pitts over the weekend for a family reunion. + + * Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dorman and Alvin, Jr. spent Sunday in Orangeburg with Mrs. Donnan’s brother, Van Jones and Mrs. Jones. They accompanied the Jones to Charleston for a short visit with their d aughter and son- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. RonaldMat- thews and little new daughter, Michelle. OBSERVE AN N1VEKSAK Y —Helping to colebrate the Golden Anniversary of the Business and Pro fessional Women’s Club at the dinner meeting on July 8 were left to right: Mrs. M. C. Poole, presi dent of the Clinton club; Mrs. Sarah Del^oach of ''Pride-Promise'’ Theme Of B&-PW Anniversary Laurens, past-preaident of the Laurens club, who assisted in organizing the club; Mrs. Dan Yarbor ough ; Miss Margaret Blakely, the clubs’ first two presidents. “Pride-Promise” - pride in a half century of achievement and promise of even greater accom plishment as career women in the future was the theme of the Golden Anniversary dinner of the Clinton Business and Pro fessional Women’s Club held on July 8 at the Presbyterian Col lege. Centering the head table was a lovely arrangement of lemon day lillies with Queen Anne’s lace tinted to match. Also featured was a birthday cake with gold icing and the numeral 50. Mrs. Pitts pointed out that Mrs. W. J. CrewsandMrs. W. W. Harris are two charter members with continuing memberships. Mrs. Yarborough, who was the past president of the Clinton Club reminded the members that this club was founded with 49 meml>ers inJanuary 1952, at Pro vidence School with the charter being granted in April ofthe same year. To close the program, Mrs. De Loach was asked to read the Emblem Benediction. Following the program, Mrs. M. C. Poole, president, held a short business meeting duringwhichMrs.Crews announced that the club had e- qualized. Climaxing the evening was th( j cutting of thednrthday cake. On July 16 the National Fed eration of Business and Profess ional Women's Clubs celebrated its Golden Anniversary Birthday in St. Louis, where the first club originated. The National Conven tion meet in that city. Mrs. W. W. Harris is representing the local club. Across the nation, Golden An niversary Day will l>e celebrated ,in thousands of communities as members honor the founders and rededicate themselves to the ob jectives of elevating standards, promoting interests, and extend ing opportunities of business and professional women and bringing about a spirit of cooperation a- mong all career women. The National Officers, who will be in St. Louis preparing for the Golden Anniversary Convention on July 20-25, will participate in a special July 16 observance in the birthplace city. Some of the original “1919ers, ” women who were delegates to the founding convention or joined the Federa tion that year, will be return ing to St. Louis for the Golden Anniversary Convention. Founded as an outgrowth of several businesswomen’s groups established during World War I, the National Federation is non sectarian, nonprofit and non political. Memtiership is open to any business and professional woman through invitation from a local club. Affiliation with the local club carries with it mem bership in the National Federa tion and the International Federa tion. Reserarch and educational activities are conducted by the Business and Professional Wo men’s Foundation. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Adair, Sr., returned home last week af ter an extended vacation toSouth- ern California. While there they attended the wedding of Robert H. Adair, Jr. and Phyliss Tuso. Mr. and Mrs. Adair also visited their son, Chip Brawley at the San Diego Naval Training Sta tion. Chip is presently at home on leave prior to reporting to his new assignment at the Naval Air Station, Guantanamo, Cuba. Personals Mrs. Joe W. Leake continues ill at Bailey Memorial Hospital w-here she has been a patient for several w'eeks. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Arnold of Greenwood spent Sunday with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Arnold. William McCrary is conval escing at Self Memorial Hospi tal, Greenwood, where he recent ly underwent surgery for a bro ken hip injury.
