Voter Drive In Clinton Area t A voter registration drive re turns to the Clinton area today. ; The Laurens County Citizens Improvement Organization is conducting a campaign to get all elegible persons registered to vote. Centers are being set up in every precinct for the con venience of those registering. Today, Thursday, the regis tration center will be at Hebron Baptist Church. On Friday, July 11, the center will be at Friend ship A ME Church and on Satur day, July 12, the center will be at New Bethel AME Church. On July 16, the registration center will be in the Joanna Re creation Center; July 17, New Hope AME Church in Mountville; July 18, Mrs. Bertha Brooks Cafe; and July 19, Smith’s Cleaners on Musgrove St. in Clinton. * * * Food Retailers Meet July 12-15 South Carolina food retailers their suppliers and wives, num bering almost 1,000 are expect ed to attend the Thirteenth An nual Convention of the Food Retailers Association of South Carolina in Charleston, July 12 - 15. Headquarters will be the Fran- cis Marion Hotel, with all func tions on Sunday at the Charles ton Municipal Auditorium and Ex hibition Hall. The Food Trade Show, luncheon, buffet and Sun day night floor show take place at the auditorium. Harold Adams, of Columbia, Piggly Wiggly operator of three stores, is president of themore- than-1,000-member association With Mrs. Adams, he will be honored at a reception Sunday. Granite can withstand a pressure of 15,000 to 20,000 pounds per square inch. GRADUATES — Phillip W. Madden of dinton graduated June 20 from U.S. Coast Guard boot camp at Cape May, N. J. The son of Mr. ami Mrs. J. L. Madden of Route 2, Clinton, he is now home on leave. He will be stationed in Houston, Texas. Sullivan Has 4.00 At Sewanee James N. SuUivan of Clinton had a perfect 4.00 grade point ratio for the second semester of 1968-69 at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. The University of the South grading system has4.00as the top of the scale. Sullivan, who recently grad uated cum laude, is a son of Dr. and Mrs. Edgar N. Sullivan of 305 Cedar St., Clinton. * * * Rita Johnson Wins Class Honors Miss Rita Johnson of Clinton has been awarded Class Honors for scholarship during her fresh man year at Salem College. Miss Johnson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olin C. John son of 600 Cedar St. in Clin ton. She is a graduate of Clin ton High School where she was president of the National Honor Society. C., July 10, 1969 Sweet-Sour Basted Barbecued Ribs Make Perfect Patio Meal Husky country-style pork ribs basted with a tantalizing sweet- sour sauce and garnished with spicy patio potatoes are the perfect combination for a covered kettle barbecue meal for friends or family. Covered kettle barbecuing adds that right amount of smoke-oven zest that makes them come back for more. Sweet-Sour Basting Sauce V2 cup thawed frozen pineapple 1 teaspoon soy sauce juice concentrate 1 teaspoon garlic powder V3 cup packed brown sugar (optional) l /2 cup wine vinegar Heat all ingredients in sauce pan until sugar dissolves. Use sauce warm. Load ribs in special rack for best results. Cook for 1V2 hours over low heat and baste with sauce every ten minutes during last half hour Patio Potatoes Wash and dice four medium size unpeeled potatoes. Place on greased sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil Using four table spoons of butter, dot potatoes generously. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic or onion powder and grated Parmesan cheese.
