Mrs. Shaver
Mrs. Leona B. Shaver, 57, of
Rt 2, Joanna-Whitmire highway,
wife of Ervin 0. Shaver, died ear
ly Saturday morning at a Clinton
hospital.
She was a native of Laurens
County and a daughter of the late
James K. and Polly Grogan Bur
nette. She was a member of the
Joanna Church of God.
Surviving also are two daugh
ters, Mrs. Roy (Irene) Riddle
and Mrs. William (Doris) Bled
soe of Joanna; two sons, Louis
Shaver of Anderson and Glenn
Shaver of Joanna; four sisters,
Mrs. Ellen Earle of Patterson,
N.J., Mrs. Betha Ledford of Mar
ion, N.C., Mrs. Esther King of
Greenwood, Mrs. Elsie Mercer of
Dallas, N.C.; two half-sisters,
Mrs. Faye Preston of Granite-
ville and Miss Bobbie Jean Bur
nette of Gastonia, N.C.; two bro
thers, Clarence A. and Oscar
Burnette of Gaffhey; four half-
brothers, C. B. Grogan of Clin
ton, Henry Burnette of Honea
Path, James Burnette of Atlanta,
Ga., and Charles Burnette of
Florida; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services were con
ducted Sunday at the Church of
God in Joanna. Burial was in
Pinelawn Memory Gardens in
Clinton.
R. L. Irby
Robert Lee Irby, 60, died in
a Columbia hospital Tuesday,
May 13.
He was a son of the late Jim
and Ora Thompson Irby.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. Gladys Lagroon of Laurens,
Mrs. Lucy Phillips of Detroit,
Mich., and Mrs. Annie P. Irby;
two sisters, Mrs. Cakethel Glenn
of Laurens and Mrs. Annette Tate
of C linton; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conduc
ted Saturday at Beasley Funeral
Home in Laurens. Burial was in
Jersey Cemetery.
Mrs. Wallace
ORA - Mrs. Sarah Cheek Wal
lace, 56, wife of William John
Wallace of Ora,'Hied at home
Tuesday morning.
She was a native of Laurens
County, daughter of the late J. C.
and Alice Putnam Cheek. She was
a member of Ora A.R.P. Church.
Surviving also are a son, Wil
liam C. Wallace of San Rafael,
Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. James
W. (Jane) Parsons of Ora; three
brothers, Charles Cheek of Gray
Court and Blandenburg.Md., John
Cheek of Laurens and Harold
Cheek of Clinton; four sisters,
Mrs. Brooks (Maude) Davenport
of Laurens, Mrs. L. W. (Jewel)
Bobo and Mrs. W. R. (Louise)
Cook of Gray Court and Mrs.
J. R. (Nell) Martin of Ora; and a
grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted at Ora A.R.P. Church
Wednesday. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Ben Crook
Ben Crook, 52, of 505 N. Broad
St, died early Thursday morning
at a local hospital.
He was a son of the late James
Edward and Alma Dunaway
Crook. He was a native of Spar
tanburg County and lived in Clin
ton two years. He was a painter,
a member of Yarborough Chapel
Methodist Church and a veteran
of World War 11.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Rebecca Lawson Crook; a daugh
ter, Mrs. David (Sheryl) Young
of Spartanburg; five sisters, Mrs.
Hugh (Edna) Willard of Cross An
chor, Mrs. Jim (Edith) Hughes of
Enoree, Mrs. Hallie Howard of
Cross Anchor, Mrs. Mattie Belle
Brown of Piedmont, and Mrs.
Teague (Virginia) Ivey of Enoree;
and a grandchild
Euneral services were conduc
ted Friday in Yarborough Chapel
Methodist Church. Burial was in
the church cemetery.
JOANNA-Mrs. Bertha Smith of
221 Morgan St, widow of Chaney
Smith, died Tuesday May 12, in a
Clinton hospital.
She was a member of Mt Zion
AME Church and the Woman’s
Aid Society.
Surviving is a brother, Ulysses
Satterwhite of Morristown, Pa.
Funeral services were conduc
ted Saturday at Mt Zion AME
Church.

GREENVILLE - Mrs. Frances
Vaughn Wilhite, 57, of 32 Wood-
fern Circle died Friday morn
ing at her home.
She was a sister of Mrs. C.
P. Wilson of Clinton. Other sur
vivors include her husband, a
son, and four brothers.
Funeral services were con
ducted Saturday at the Mackey
Mortuary with burial in Wood-
lawn Memorial Park.

WHITMIRE - Clyde David
Tinsley, 54, died Thursday night
in a veteran’s hospital in Ashe
ville, N.C. He was a brother of
Alvin Tinsley of Kinards.
Other survivors include his
stepmother, three sisters and
another brother.
Funeral services were con
ducted Sunday at United Metho
dist Church of Whitmire with
burial in Beth Eden Church ceme
tery.

GREENVILLE - Mrs. Corinne
Murphy Huguley, 81, of 726 Cleve
land St, diedSaturday morning at
a Greenville nursing home.
She was the mother of George
M. Huguley of Clinton. Other sur
vivors include two daughters,
another son, two sisters, 11
grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.
Graveside services were con
ducted Monday,Decatur, Ga.,Ce
metery.

Mrs. W. F. Mitchell is visit
ing her daughter and family in
Cary, N.C.
Miss Marie Leaman has re
turned to her home in Washington,
D. C. after spending some time
here with her sister, Miss Agnes
Leaman.
Joe Hill will return from Self
Memorial Hospital this week.
