ATHLETIC BANQUET
The Athletic Department of
Bell Street High School present
ed its annual banquet last Fri
day night, May 16, honoring all
members of the Athletic Depart
ment.
The speaker for the occasion
was Mr. R. L. Beasley of Lau
rens. He is assistant-director of
the Community Action Organiza
tion.
After Mr. Beasley’s address,
presentation of awards were
made. Persons who had played
the required length of time for
their particular sport received
the Block “B" monogram. Girls
receiving trophies were: Gail
Ferguson, Most Valuable Player;
Yvonne Adams, Sportmanship;
and Sandra Fuller, Best De
fensive Player. Boys receiving
trophies in basketball were:
Grady Boyd, Most Valuable Play
er; Richard Scott, Sportmanship;
and Luke Babb, Most Improved
Player.
Start in football there were
four trophies given. Boys who re
ceived these trophies were: Rich
ard Scott, Most Valuable Player;
Gregory Robinson, Sportsman
ship; Grady Boyd, Most Improved
Player; and Ralph Young, Best
Blocker.
Our principal, Mr. McQuilla
Hudson made closing remarks
and the program was concluded
by the singing of the school's
Alma Mater.
SENIOR CLASS DAY
The senior class presented its
class day program in the audi
torium Friday afternoon May 16.
Master of Ceremonies was
Kenneth Irby, senior class presi
dent. The class reflected a feel
ing of sincerity in the singing of
its class song. James Richey,
editor-in-chief of the 1969 year
book staff, presented to Mrs.
Lillian Brown, the spokesman for
the parents, the 1969 “Wildcat"
annual.
The program held a lot of
memories for the seniors and in
a certain way it was a special,
but sad day, because this means
we are one step closer to the final
day, graduation.
STUDENT ELECTION
After the Class Day program,
the Student Council lield its elect
ion for officers for the 1969-70
school term. Officers are as fol
lows: President, Yvonne Adams;
vice-president, Sara Kinard; se
cretary, Linda Price; asst.-
secretary, Barbara Young; busi
ness manager, Sammie Richard;
Sargeant-at-Arms, Henry Hart,
Reporter, Luke Babb; Par
liamentarian, Terry Suber;trea
surer, Bernard Lindsay; and
Miss Student Council, Dianne
Pitts. Advisors for the Student
Council are Mrs. E. C. Savage
and Rev. W. E. Crumlin.
SPRING ORIENTATION
Wednesday, May 14 was an es
pecially busy day at Bell Street
High School. On that day we had
as our guests approximately one
hundred and thirty prospective
freshmen students from Martha
Dendy Elementary School and
Midway Elementary School. The
activities included remarks from
the principal, the guidance
counselor, heads of departments,
officers of student organizations,
the librarian, the coaches, and
the cafeteria manager. An or
ganized tour of the building and
campus was conducted by student
leaders who served as guides.
Following recess the eighth grad
ers reassembled, and the counse
lor talked to them in regard to
rules and regulations of the
school and the demerits systen.
She also urged each student to
develop good study habits and it
work hard to make the high sc
years successful. The activitids
climaxed with a well-planned aaf
highly enjoyable program which
was presented by the eighth gra
ders. A representative from the
group expressed words of appre
ciation to the Bell Street family
for the invitation to visit the
school, for the kindnesses shown
them, and for the well-planned
activities.
