Mrs. Black
Funeral services were held
Sunday for Mrs. Fannie Edge
Black, 90, who died Saturday
morning at her home at502Mus-
grove St. Services were conduct
ed at the Thornwell Chapel with
burial in Rosemont Cemetery.
A native of Union County, she
was a daughter of the late Daniel
Butler and Nancy Jane Wishert
Edge. She lived in Clinton since
1919 and was a graduate of C lifford
Seminary in Union. She attended
Winthrop College. She was a
member of Thornwell Presby
terian Church where she was a
life member of the Women of the
Church. She was a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her hus
band, George A. Black; two
daughters, Mrs. W. A. (Frances)
Martin of Fountain Inn and Mrs.
Mary D. Lawter of Waynesboro,
Va.; three sons, G. Arthur Black
of Greenville, W. Alex Black
of Columbia and Butler W. Black
of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. J.
V. Buleauh Edwards of Clinton;
seven grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith
WHITMIRE - Mrs. EmmaFin-
ney Smith, 57, wife ofOwenSmith,
died Friday night in a Green
ville hospital. She was a sister
of Mrs. Eugene Dalton of Joanna.
Other survivors include a
daughter, two sons, another sis
ter, four brothers and 15 grand
children.
Funeral services were con
ducted Sunday at Grace Baptist
Church with burial in Whitmire
Cemetery.
Mrs. Young
LAURENS - Mrs. Annie Craig
Young, 48, of Route 2, Laurens,
died Friday morning in a Lau
rens hospital. She was a sister
of Johnnie Watson and Mrs. Edith
Burton and was a stepdaughter of
Mrs. Orella Craig, all of Clin
ton.
Other survivors include her
husband, Robert Young, four
sons, two daughters, 11 grand
children and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday at Cedar Grove
Baptist Church with burial In the
church cemetery.
J. H. Osborne
LAURENS - John Horace Os
borne, 62, of 112 Watts St., died
Saturday in a Laurens Hospital.
He was a brother of James Os
borne and Mrs. Ida Mae Starnes,
both of Clinton.

(Willie) Turner, 68, died Monday
morning in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was a brother of Mrs. Emily
League of Clinton.

other sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday at Switzer
Baptist Church with burial in the
church cemetery.

LITTLE MOUNTAIN—Mrs. Eli
zabeth S. Shealey, 87 died Thurs
day, May 8, at a Newberry nurs
ing home.
She was the mother of Herman
L. Shealey of Clinton. Other sur
vivors include three other sons,
a daughter, 10 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conduc
ted Friday at Mt. Tabor Luthe-
ra n Church with burial in the
church cemetery.

Lawrence Swift
Lawrence “Larry* Swift, 52,
of 1822 Oakland St, Des Moines,
Iowa, died early Tuesday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. C. T.
Thomason, 313 E. Florida St.
He was a native of Des Moines,
a son of the late Leo P. and
Gretchen Saum Swift. He was a
former employe of the Chicago,
Rock Island and Pacific Railroad
and a member of Des Moines
Methodist Church. He was a vet
eran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Theda “Betty* Thomason Swift;
and a brother, Dean L. Swift of
Des Moines.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Thursday at Gray Funeral
Home by the Rev. E. W. Ro
gers. Burial will be in Rose
mont Cemetery.
Augusta Man
Dies In Wreck
Near Laurens
LAURENS - A 23-year-old
Augusta, Ga., man was killed
Monday morning in a wreck at
the intersection of U.S. 221
and Bypass 127 south of Laurens.
Andrew Jackson Roberts of
20 38 Olive Dr., Augusta, was
killed as his father was injured
when the tractor-trailer rig in
which they were riding overturn
ed.
Truman Roberts, 54, was re
ported in satisfactory condition
Monday afternoon.
Laurens County Coroner Mar
shall Pressley said young Ro
berts was driver of the flatbed
truck which was loaded with
bricks. The truck, owned by
Riverside Motorlines of Augusta,
was en route to Roper Lumber Co.
in Laurens.
The truck was making a right
turn off U.S. 221 when it over
turned, coming to rest on its top.
Pressley said the victim was dead
at the scene of the accident.
