Miss McCarthy was elected vico- president of the student body, and Tedards was elected president.— (Photo by Jerry Holland) Friday before last we elected ninth grade J. V. cheerleaders. These three are Beverly Ted ards, Patti Sherril and Mary Lynn McCrary. > Last Tuesday we enjoyed a cha pel program presented by the Guidance Office. Devotions were led by James Audia and Martha Gabbert Next there was a panel discussion on dating, manners, grooming and understanding par ents. The panel members were Melissa Bishop, Mandy Crisp, Walter Hughes, DickieMcSween, Debbie Grubb, Donna Lee and Sherry McGee. Skits on the dis cussion topics were given by Malcom Lee, Laura Haupfear, Cheryl Jones, Eddie Copeland, Fran Hogan and Jimmy Arm strong. On April 25, Miss Ruth Hairs ninth English class traveled over to Presbyterian College to see •The Dark at the Top of the Stairs." The group met at Lor raine Plaxico’s house for re freshments before the play. They sincerely thank Mrs. Plaxicoand Lorraine for their hospitality. Two students have been in various hospitals recently. Cheeks and Shipfitter Third Class Willie J. Suber, both of Clinton, are serving a- board the heavy cruiser USS Oklahoma City with Task Force 71 in the South China Sea. The task force was established immediately upon notification of the shooting down of a Navy EC- 121 reconnaissance aircraft by the enemy over North Korea. Task Force 71 comprises more than 20 ships morial and Riley Lane in the Columbia Army Hospital. These boys have returned to school and are busy with make-up work. Saturday morning, Mrs. Grace Connor and a few chorus mem bers sung in the Clinton Springs Arts Festival at the college. Many other Junior High students were busy making posters for the festival and performing in it The annual band concert is scheduled for May 12. They will play at school and Belk Audi torium the same day. This is our director, Mr. Harry Bouknight, last year here so please try to attend it as a tribute to him. By the way, have you donated anything at all to the fund for new band uniforms? If you know a band member, ask him how you can help. Doesn’t everyone want this alma mater to have an at tractive band at parades and foot ball games? Saturday Molly Glover re presented Laurens County in the State Spelling Bee. She did not sit down until the ninth round. We would all like to congratu late her on the fine performance. This weekend Mandy Crisp and family went to the May Day Fes tivities at Tift College in For sythe, Ga. They visited with Becky Crisp who is a student there. Jenny Todd traveled down to Columbia to see President Richard M. Nixon Saturday. This same weekend Laurie Savelkoul went to Six Flags over Georgia. Denise Shumate and family wel comed her brother, Harvey, home from his Marine Camp. The Shumates also went to Florida. Miss DuBose To Receive MCE Deqree Miss Dottie DuBose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. DuBose, formerly of Whitmire now of Clinton, will on May 19 receive the degree of Master of Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia. Miss DuBose earned the Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina where she graduated in 1967, On August 1, she will begin work as the Director of Christian Education at the Hudson Memor ial Presbyterian Church in Ra leigh, North Carolina. * * * Miss Bouknight In Festivities Kathy Bouknight of Clinton was a member of the dance company which performed Saturday in May Day festivities at Columbia Col lege.
